Thomas Müller

In your mind maybe.....

Why would he signed with 7th place united when hes been playing with one of the top clubs in the world. Muller is also a homegrown talent. Its like scholes being convinced to join valencia because united had just signed jsv

It will be more like Scholes being convinced to join Barcelona when we won the league in 2003 and they finished 6th.

Same thing. However i wanted to give a modern example to bring things into perspective

We are closer to Barcelona in terms of our size then Valencia. Anyhow, I am just being a pedant, there was no way Muller was ever leaving the best Bayern side in decades to come to a team which is pretty much directionless at the moment.

All top clubs pass from a bad time. However let us not kid ourselves that we can still attract Bayern's top talent while we're still lingering at 7th place especially since we were never amongst the biggest spenders in the transfer market. Its really high time that we start getting off our high horse and accept our position.

I think there's a strong chance that players are using are perceived interest as leverage in their negotiations. However, LVG strikes me as the kind of guy who won't be anybody's bitch, so perhaps that's why he's been so proactive in stating our lack of interest in certain players (Fabregas and Kroos.)

Totally agree with you there... LVG will not take crap from anyone.
I'm glad we have him at this juncture.

Whatever you want to call him, he plays as a forward and scores for Bayern. #10, 9.5 etc - we don't need him atm so it was always a non-story.
Muller to put it one way is just a strange player to describe his brilliant though.

Glad he is staying at Bayern. Has a face you just want to punch.

If you actually read some of the posts by the Bayern fans in this thread, you'd see he actually does have reason to move. He just wants more appreciation and game time, despite quite a few subs and being omitted in a few key games, he is top scorer and has been excellent. But he needs that reassurance that he's not a peripheral figure, he wants to be in those important games, but it's hard to know for sure as Pep may have more plans to sign new players... Not to mention, he and LvG are "old friends", so with a bit of nudging and a lack of clarity from Bayern + Pep, we may end up with him.

So yeah, funny how things turn out eh?

Why did you bump this as though my post was invalid? He has signed a new contract because it is most likely Bayern and Pep have given him the clarity he sought. He did have reasons to move, I never said he was going to, did I? But you know that, eh?

Just saying, it's funny how things "actually" turn out.

No, it's "actually" useless of you to do this. What do you seek to achieve from this? Even in hindsight there isn't anything at all wrong with my post.

As long as we've been linked with him I've had no clue where he would play, but I fecking love the way he wears his socks.

The notion that he is slow is just total bollocks. He'd walk into our team; one of the game's most consistent players.

8 WC goals already. He's got a good chance of breaking Ronaldo's record by the time he hangs his boots.

Wow this is just a load of rubbish you spout there and are flawed on so many levels. The scholes analogy is a misconception. Some home grown players at our club have a strong bonding with the club under Fergie. Fergie has a way of convincing young (and old) players United is the club to stay for life (partly if not solely) because Fergie is a manager they trust who will make them big and it's a stable club to stay for many trophies to come.

The class of 92 won't be successful without Fergie.

The 7th place last season was not representative of our club. We are not mid table or 7th place club per se. Get this concept out of your head otherwise you will keep talking nonsense. :)

There should be. He is one of the great offensive players of his generation. And still 24!!
His trophy count his incredible. Scored his 100! goal for Bayern in the first Pokal round.
I just hope that we can bond him till his last day. Could become the biggest club legend after Franz(who cant be topped).

yes we are trying to get the best players, we have ambition but not everyone will sign for us. Herrera is great talent not the world class even I rate him very highly and is our best midfielder atm. but he came from bilbao to Manutd he couldn't turn it down and dont think many other big clubs were after him. The same with Luke Shaw, I don't think Chelsea had interest. he would have gone there in that case but there was no better club to go for shaw for sure than united. Rojo is not world class atm, he is the target we could get quite easily if we pay enough(nani deal incl) but there was not better option for the player anyway. If we tried to sign players like Hummels, Bale, Kroos, Fabregas, Muller we should have known that we could be rejected for numerous reasons not because we don't try our best. What more do you want to offer than money and the beckground of one of the biggest lubs in the world. But a lot of people starts to put blame on woodward because they think they know everything about who we are interested in and how it is all easy to work out.more patience needed, we are not always the number one club in terms of lucrativity. And I guess the champions league factor could be a little bit worrying because this year we are not playing champions league and we look to be struggling to get into champions league even the next year. So it could be a huge blow for some player who wants to push for the title in champions league and even in the domestic competition evrey single year to miss on possible titles and medals. The career is too short.

Original germán quotes do not imply a bid from United specifically. Yet the English media make it seem like yet another "snub". Typical.

Agreed, looking at it he never actually mentions Manchester United. Even if we did he also said there were more than 1 club who made offers, why is the headline singling out United.

I think it's well known that LvG made approaches for Robben and Muller as one of his first moves. Good to see he has the ambition to go for players of that quality but all the money in the world won't turn some players heads.

It's hardly surprising is it? I'd imagine most clubs in the world would love to sign him.

I don't mind us enquiring about top players even if they look highly unlikely to move, but if we're wasting time waiting for players like Reus, Hummels, Muller etc instead of going after more realistic targets its pointless.

I'd really love to know what goes on in the offices at the club.

Are you saying there is a player on earth who would choose not to come if offered GBP 500k a week?

the quotes are complete bollocks. He said something like: "I realized, that I might have been able to earn even more money after a transfer."
He is not talking about Manchester United or any other concrete offer.

I dont even know why players repeat this bullshit about money all the time. He became on of our top-earners. Playing for bayern also helps his sponsorship deals. Including sponsorship deals/marketing he is surely a top5 earner. Eventually top3. Nothing wrong with that but to think that he could earn significantly more money by playing for another club is just not true. He loves the club and the city, but if he really gets a better offer (not only money), he´ll leave.
Its so frustrating to see that fans buy into that. Because fans expect players to be emotional idiots, players pretend to be emotional idiots. When its time to back-up their talk, fans usually end up very disappointed.

Thats a bit harsh. Thomas owes Bayern much. And he has a great package here. I believe him when he says that he ignored offers which could have been a bit better over time.
But I agree; he earns big at Bayern with 24 and combined with sponsor contracts no other club can really top that.

Where exactly would he play? We already can't shoe horn Rooney, RVP, Mata, Welbeck, Hernandez and Kagawa into a team.... Never mind adding Muller!

Müller can play CF, SS and RW on a very high level. I'm sure Louis van Gaal would have found a spot for his favourite player.

"Müller spielt immer".

German sources also only contain Müllers statement "obscene ammount of money was offered" combined with the alleged interest of United. Any of my fellow germans already had his/her fingers in the print edition of the current Sportbild and could check if there is something of more substance in it?

Van Gaal said in 2010 that the main reason why he put Müller in was because the field gets bigger for his fellow players when he plays because of his runs. Add that to his goal and assist quotes that probably are consistently in the top 10 to 20 - and he is the player of the guys with 10 goals who scored them in average against the highest ranked teams - and a special ability to be part of this late life-saving-goals out of nothing when things do not run.

The advertising contracts are mainly a result to his actions in the German team so I do not really think that they would be harmed so much. Ballack's did not seem to be harmed. And the reason that Podolski is not as present anymore just has to do that he lost his role in the German team. The chance is very high that that would even improve as the EPL and Manchester United just are more well known in other countries. And he would be the perfect advertising figure for Muller corners...
