Thomas Lemar| Staying at Monaco

Right spent the morning going through all his video's to remind myself of his playing style/position etc.

He reminds me of a young pacier Juan Mata (from Valencia days) when he was a left midfielder, but he has more tricks up his sleeve and is a far more accomplished ball-carrier but less finishing threat. He is predominantly a creative force, very balanced player with great work ethic so definitely someone who would work well with a Mourinho but the question is does he fit into the side tactically. His best role if it was from scratch would be a Di Maria style role in midfield ala Madrid under Carlo.. left sided attacking midfielder, with free role to just run at players in midfield and link up play.

The only way I can see him fit into a Mourinho side and play in his favoured formation is if we went 4-4-2, with Martial/Rashford playing as second strikers behind Lukaku and Lemar and Mkhi as your widemen. If however we went 4-3-3, we would struggle to get him into the side, unless he improves his ability to play on the right wing. Now I did see him drift over to the right and play some games there, but he wasn't outstanding on that wing.. he looked uncomfortable, reminscent of Bale's early troubles on the right flank when he was a natural left sided, left footed player. He is only 21, so I can see him developing his ability to play on the right flank so not a major issue.. and he is in the Mkhi/Mata mould of a playmaking right winger.. but I would question whether he's the right type of winger we need in that role. I'd prefer a Dembele or even a Mahrez, proper winger with speed to burn and can really stretch the play down that flank.

At home, 4-4-2, looks pretty devastating against most sides.. but that 4-3-3 is missing a proper goal threat down the right. So if we were to get him, would be interesting to see how he fits in.

Gut feeling is, we are not in for him as I don't really see where he fits in but lets see what happens. If we do get him, I think Mata's days would be numbered.

He has come out to say that he would prefer us to Arsenal...

Then Straight away we read that Perisic is still not giving up on Joining us...

We could be in for another signing next week, But WHO ???...

It was Castles that said so not Lemar.

@Raees That's a good description and I really like the 442, I don't know if you noticed but the 442 could easily be a 343 in attack.

Lemar deal is still on the table from what Castles has been told, contrary to what Wenger said in his press conference. Monaco want 60m for him and the player prefers Man Utd over a move to Arsenal.

This info was passed onto Castles from his Monaco contact.

What minute does he start talking about Lemar?

Wouldn't he be in Pogba's space if this was the case?
I haven't really been noticing but I know Matic is left footed, so has Pogba been playing on the right side of midfield?

An offensive left-back (like Mendy) is required because he tends to cut inside at time.

I think he's started on the right in the two games so far (definitely in the Swansea game), but he moves around so much that it doesn't really matter.

Pogba since Matic's arrival has been operating down the right and also drifting to the left, so you are right to pick that up.

In that case, Lemar may or may not overlap with Pogba, as Pogba has already started to occupy both sides of the pitch now so may not be a big issue. They both have to get used to each other for France too, so i don't think that would be the biggest concern.

I just struggle to see why we need him. Never seen him play, or if I have I've been too focused on Mbappe and Fabinho when Monaco play.
I just know that he predominately plays around left mid area - do we really need him?

We would be better with him, than without.

Castles hasn't been worth listening to this summer.

Liverpool linked to Lemar by reliable journo. He also says monaco wont sell him this season which i find to be weird since they ahve sold everyone else. Unless Lemar has said privately he is staying i do think he will leave for the correct price.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason they don't want to sell him.

Liverpool bid €80m for Thomas Lemar

Premier League side Liverpool have submitted an €80m offer to AS Monaco for French international attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to L’Équipe and confirmed by sources contacted by Get French Football News.

The offer includes €8m in bonuses, with the Reds seeking to close the deal this morning if possible, so that they can get Lemar to undergo a medical whilst complying with Didier Deschamps’s strict policy of not allowing any French international to leave the camp for transfer reasons. All players are expected at the national team base at Clairefontaine before this evening.

Liverpool, who have yet to hear back on their offer, will therefore imminently make a call to AS Monaco Vice President Vadim Vasilyev to speed things up, according to the report.

Lemar is a player that Arsenal have been after this summer, submitting three offers, the last one was worth €50m.

The player has decided that he would like to join the Premier League.

What will Vasilyev do now? Time will tell…
If that offer is true then Coutinho is off and Lemar is Liverpool's as they wont refuse that amount. It is the amount they were looking for in the window. Jose needs to step in, he is a player we need. Would be gutted if liverpool get him. He would be an improvement on coutinho and for lower fee.

Really?
He's had one good season in the french league, compared to Coutinho being one of the top PL players the last couple of years.

Not a chance

We really need to stop f+++ing Arsenal up the arse. Seriously. I actually do like them a little.

They're doing a brilliant job of fecking themselves up their own arse!

As Gary Nev stated; Great club with a great history...it shouldn't be allowed to happen

He has had three good seasons.
Really? Never heard of him before last season. The season before that he only had 5 goals and 3 assists. And the season before that he started six games with 19 sub appearances for Caen?

Def
Liverpool need defenders and central midfielders. Trying to emulate Arsenal and City.
Good defenders definitely. Can is shaping up to be an excellent player for them.

What they desperately need is a 20+ a season goalscorer

Sturridge could do that if he can stay fit and if selected. I am not so sure they do need a striker, Firmino, Mane and Salah is a very good front 3.

Lemar was Monaco's best attacking player and the most consistent player in 2015-2016 and he was pretty good for a surprising Caen the season before.

If we sign this guy, then surely Coutinho is gone. While we certainly would need a replacement for him, a dm and a cb is much more important

I don't think that's what football is supposed to be about. Selling all your players isn't what makes a brilliant club.

That's what football has become with FFP.
