Thomas Lemar| Staying at Monaco

Signing for Liverpool is such a dickhead thing imo.

You're not really likely to challenge for trophies, not consistently, or at least I just don't think they can keep up/fight for top rated talent like other clubs, but then they're stuck in that weird limbo where they are not exactly a fodder club either, so as a player, if you happen to perform/do well there, it's not guaranteed they are going to sell you to a club with better trophy prospects, I mean Barca are struggling to get Coutinho, granted Liverpool are in a strong position in this case, but yeah, you're kinda just stuck there
 I agree

I know but in the end, the gap between Monaco and Paris is close to the gap between Bayern and Dortmund. (when you don't cheat).
In terms of City and support both cases are very different. Dortmund have the highest attendance in the Bundesliga but many local competitors in North Rhine-Westphalia while Bayern dominate thanks to domination over the whole Bavaria and more national and global support through a bigger history of success since the 70s and consistency at the top despite Munich not really being a global city.

On the other hand Monaco has a nice history in the French league but is the smallest city to play in the CL and being its own microstate has trouble having other people identify with the club. Paris is one of the largest city in Europe and one of the most iconic in the world and PSG has no competition for a global sport franchise in the city, a marketer's dream.

Why would you leave Monaco for Liverpool in fairness? Nothing personal with them, I respect them as a club, but if I were Lemar I would not leave Monaco for Liverpool, does not seem like a step up at all.

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse for Arsenal, Liverpool come up with a bid after Wenger said the deal was dead because Monaco don't want to sell. If he goes to Liverpool now he's going to look like an idiot.

Surprised Arsenal aren't still in the hunt for him. Wenger supposedly indicated to journalists that the move was dead because Monaco will only sell Mbappe or something. It's seems strange that if the value is set now at 55-60mil why Arsenal wouldn't stump up the cash.

Arguably they have or should have other priorities but so should Liverpool. Although if Pool sell Countinho buy Lemar, buy VVDJK and then say bring in Sanches on loan or something who is probably a better version of Milner and Henderson with a bit of Wijmaldum thrown in all of a sudden Liverpool have a pretty strong squad.

Where would he play for pool? Are they gonna bench one of saslah or sane, I can't see him being happy with a rotation role. If they go 2 in midfield that would be even more disastrous for their shaky defence.

But we've already added Salah as well, so I'd say even if we were to get in Lemar & sell Coutinho that our squad would be stronger than last year.

Still inexcusably shallow in midfield & woeful in defence, but better than last year.

I think your midfield depth is absolutely fine with a Coutinho or Lemar in the team.

By buying Salah and Robertson you have effectively released two players for the midfield. Coutinho from the attack and Milner from LB. That's on top of Henderson, Can, Wijnaldum and Lallana. 6 players for 3 positions and a right mix of skills.

At CB, I agree, you need more quality and quantity. Neither Klavan nor Lovren are good enough to partner Matip and with Sakho out the picture you need a new player there.

That is what he has done, he also has one of the best set peice delivery in the world.
I agree on his set piece delivery but even if he was here he probably wouldn't be on set pieces.

Where would he even play?
Im all for squad depth but surely that's only a concern after the midfield / defence and keeper positions are sorted?
He'd play where they planned on playing Coutinho I assume. Would make no sense to have all five of Firmino, Salah, Mane, Coutinho and Lemar as none of them would be happy with a squad role.

Liverpool do sign attacking players well.

In the case of Munich, the city and region is important because of the companies that are linked with Bayern, the same way companies around Lyon or Paris wants to be associated with the club. That's where big cities have a big advantage compared to smaller ones.

Baffled at him wanting to go to there and Liverpool wanting him, they'll fail just like they always do this season because they never address the issues that need sorting.

This will be bad for us and great for us. Although they ahve a shit defense they will outscore most clubs i think.

IIRC Wenger said doors are closed for Lemar signing as Monaco don't want to sell him, so things changed very quickly and so late in the window?

Also it looks like Fabinho and Mbappe are more or less going to PSG, so Monaco will lose one more player? Not sure there is much in this rumor.

If we allow Lemar to go to Liverpool, it would be a huge and costly mistake. He's a superb player and I think will be as good as Mbappe overall.

Really hope he doesn't end up at Liverpool. Would really strengthen them.

Arsenal fans will be fuming especially, as they could more than afford to pay for Lemar.

We don't own the player.

But we have the ability to buy him given the amount of money available. And he would prefer United over Liverpool. And so if he goes to Liverpool, it would be the result of United allowing him to go.

 I guess we "allow" pretty much every transfer to happen then?

We can't sign or try to sign every player under the sun. United have no say in this.

We should make him our last signing of this window.

Will strengthen us and weaken other teams.

That is a highly speculative post. If we are not after him there could be multiple possible explanations why. There are many good players in Europe, and we can't buy all of them. Some will sign for our rivals. That's life.

Probably the last position they need a player? Must be a Coutiniho replacement. Otherwise it's madness from Klopp.

No we can't. Amazing point. But a left footed player who can cross the ball and take set pieces is exactly the type of player United need. If he is available, and United don't go for him, they must have looked at him and decided against it. Hence they're allowing him to go somewhere else.

Or maybe ManUtd contacted him and he told us to feck off as he hates Jose and loves Klopp. Hence we have no say in this.

This is an obvious case of a player having way too much potential to just let him go to Liverpool. A hijack is in order.

We don't own Lemar, Monaco does. If we don't go for him, we are not interested. And that's it.

With Jose, you get a sense whether the signings work out or not, nothing is knee jerk. He knows his targets and is patient and would sooner wait. He talks about a list and surely if he's on the list, why wait till the last week to bid? Those big teams buying at this stage I suspect will be in result to losing one.....

What a ridiculously pretentious and self-entitled post.
