Thomas Lemar| Staying at Monaco

At the expense of Martial/Rashford? I'm not sure. If he could operate from the right or centre I'd be more comfortable.
I'm no formation nerd, but looking at the right side we have Valencia who can cross and offer width. Young and Lingard too, but they're both quite bad crossers imo. But we have options.

On the left I see nothing resembling natural width. Luke Shaw SHOULD be that player by now, but he's too risky to pin expectation on imo.

Even though its Castles its most likely this.

Doubt it, Arsene said it was dead as far as Arsenal were concerned. Be amazed if he went there/wanted to go there anyway. Not a good move.

Monaco: "quick Arsene, pay the money! United are after him too!....honest".
Arsenal have a 33 man squad and are confident of keeping sanchez(whose replacement he was meant to be) while also buying Lacazette who also likes to attack from the left. They are also keeping ozil so centre attacking position is filled up too. Dont think arsenal have the space or the money right now to buy him.Nor do they have champions league football. If i was Lemar id stay at Monaco than moving to Arsenal as they wont win shit while at Monaco he can play and attract bigger teams.

I completely disagree. We are far weaker on the right than on the left as far as attacking players goes. Yes we need a left back, I've been saying this all summer but Martial/Rashford are amazing options on the left, we've already seen how devastating they can be. I don't see that on the right at all, apart from Valencia we have absolutely no one who can take on a player on that side.

GFF take on it

From our end, sounds entirely, exclusively like paper talk. But, Monaco's strategy has shocked and surprised so many this window, that poor Lemar, if Mbappé & Fabinho leave, will feel utterly alone. And Manchester United have a history of surprising, big, late bids for Monaco Frenchmen. Bottom line, don't rule anything out. Monaco have made it clear that they do not believe in the saying: "not for sale at any price". Having said that, Lemar has surrounded himself with great counsel: his father wants him to remain to be assured of a place in the France squad for Russia 2018, and his call-up today shows that this is likely to be a winning strategy. Plus, the way the market is going, it would be unsurprising for Monaco to want at least €80m plus bonuses if they were to do any deal.

Then he's not the player we should sign. He played more inside leaving Mendy the left wing to attack.
Well when I watched him, he stayed pretty wide and had very good dribbling ability down the flank. I can only go by that.

Mendy hasn't impressed me at all

Dont know if he cant or can stop them, he certainly said so he would.

He let Martial leave the camp to deal with a transfer and did the same for someone else but I can't remember which player it was.

He said it in the press conference. I dont know what will happen. I think we will get a hint if something is on the table from mourinho today. If he says market is closed for him then thats that.

We've spent less than £30m net. You're woefully uninformed.

He most definitely is, just because he goes inside at times and you see Mendy overlapping doesn't mean he cannot keep the width. Just watch where most of his assists are coming from

That's around the mark where your board bemoans that you just don't have the same kind of spending power as the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.

When Jose says that, it doesn't mean anything.

33 Man squad and he plays in the same position as sanchez who you are keeping. Think you forgot to read that. Also clearly you wont match wages or the money Monaco are asking (80 million euros) Your board looks at bargain basement signings and anything over 40 million does not exist in your universe.

Not sure you can act all high and mighty when your club balks at any player over 45m. Given that Monaco want 60m, is it that surprising people think your board won't allow it?

Our interest is total made up bullshit. As if Mourinho would buy Lemar, and that as an alternative to Perisic.

But that's not what you said. You said we don't have the money to buy him which is absolute nonsense. If you'd have said we won't buy him because our board is stingy I'd have agreed with you, but you didn't.

I'm not saying we'll sign him, you're right that our squad is too big and the board probably won't want to spend that much money. I'm just saying that it's ridiculous to say that Arsenal can't afford to spend 80m on a player.

Arsenal could definitely afford to bring him in if they wanted I've no doubt about that.

Would probably only make sense if Wenger stops trying to copy Conte though and abandons this 3 at the back which probably isn't workng, and doesn't make sense with the CB's Arsenal have. Go back to 4-2-3-1 and Sanchez, Ozil and Lemar all switching about behind Lacazette is a dangerous front 4.

He'd be an immediate upgrade on the RW position and having him in playing and settled for a year would make any Sanchez departure the following season a softer blow.

Mourinho also said he's after someone that would allow him play 3 at the back.

Would be amazing if he could play on the right

I think he definitely could. He has all the tools, but he got shifted around a lot due to his all-round qualities and presence of Bernardo Silva mainly on the right. If he spent a season there then he could really make a big splash IMO.

Lukaku, Zlatan - strikers

Martial, Rashford - for left and
striker

Mkhitaryan, Lemar, Mata all across the attacking midfield

Serious strength in depth there. Still strong with our Lemar mind you.

He is an outstandingly good player, and a much more exciting signing than Perisic, but my two questions, can he play down either flank?
and if we got him then how could we shoehorn in Griezmann, if he should still be a target?

I just don't know how Lemar fits into this team, but that's Jose's problem..!!

Seriously doubt Griezmann would still be a target, especially given how much he would cost on top of Lemar.

^^Exactly^^
I don't see how we could accommodate both, so to my mind, it would be either one or the other, if at all..!!

Why wouldn't he buy Lemar? He's a great crosser which is what we're after isn't it?

If we are buying him to play on the left, I'm not interested.
He's just going to screw Martial and Rashford.
On the right, yeah...why not.

That podcast doesn't mention there is intrest from united. It says if Lemar has a choice between United and Arsenal he would prefer United. They also mention that Monaco would sell if their price is matched which is 60 mil. Not sure if that is euros or pounds.

Would much rather Lemar than Peresic but Jose pretty much said Peresic was for a WB. So Lemar could probably do a job there but I'm not sure it would be a major strength over the likes of Shaw.

I don't expect the Griezmann deal ever to be revived. It's over.

Lemar would be an excellent signing.

He had a report less than a week ago, saying we were interested.
