Thomas Lemar| Staying at Monaco

Now that, it seems, he's messed Arsenal and Liverpool maybe we should get him in January!

Yeah. The only problem is that he won't go to Liverpool either, Coutinho stays at Anfield and Barca could move for Griezmann next time.

I am sure that we are his preferred destination when he leaves athetico

More than that - I'm always amazed there's this acceptance that a player is willing to just drop everything within 24 hours and decide to move to a different country and club.

I'm sure some players are willing to just 'go with it' (with encouragement from an agent) but I'm sure there's also plenty of them would need a good week or two to decide something like that.

That's a great point actually. These players are making a major life decision against the clock.

In Arsenal's case, they at least showed some interest earlier in the window, so I imagine Lemar would have already weighed up the pros and cons of moving there before today.

Well apparently that was one of the reasons for Lemar turning them down (or so said one of the ITK tweets). I'm not surprised.

Why bid then? Arsenal shit it at the thought of having a face saving bid accepted.

John Cross trying to protect the club and Arsene here. He's a fan after all but as result it all seems completely transparent attempt at saving face.

that tweet only makes the club worse off imo

That tweet makes arsenal and wenger look bad

Lemar comes up with a MOTM performance for France right after rejecting Arsenal

 Brilliant. They bid, their players tried to convince him to come (see laz twitter) but then they decide to pull out. Asnl looking like the butt hurt ex here...

I'd love it if agent P had something to do with it too... Giroud: "sign for us you'll love it" / Lemar looks over to Pogba / Pogba shakes his head / Lemar: "i think i'll stay put"

Arsenal using a pigeon to carry out transfer negotiations over the channel?

Should have ridden the ferry instead.

Actually you are right but I do think that the last thing Arsenal want now is to seen to have been outright turned down by the player they tried to sign. The tweet from Cross certainly makes them look utterly incompetent but at least with this (and what I believe to be a fictional) version of events they've been portrayed as having made the decision themselves rather than to have been essentially powerless in the proceedings.

That is some bid for penny pinching Arsenal.

Understand the player not wanting to join them though, everyone can see the club is heading in the wrong direction fast.

He´ll put in a shift for Monaco, help with their roster turnover, secure his World Cup spot and get a move for €65-80M next summer. Maybe even with a clear club in mind already.

He'll be a priority for someone next summer rather than simply an afterthought/panic buy this

I'm sure it's been said on here already, but I find it odd that we seemingly had no interest in him whatsoever, despite clearly wanting a left winger. To be honest, I'm not familiar with him, but is there doubts about his ability or his attitude or something which has put us off?

He isn't a winger.

Given Barcelona seemingly showed interest over the last couple of days, and the fact that Liverpool surely won't sell Coutinho now given no replacement bought, I wouldn't be surprised if Barcelona brought in Lemar tomorrow - their fans will expect more than "just" Dembele. Even more likely after that screamer tonight!

If I were Barcelona I would bid for him.

Unless Messi goes back to playing as a false 9 (and Suarez is dropped) or drops into midfield I can't see how Barca would be able to line up with both Dembele and Lemar

Suarez

Lemar - Messi - Dembele

Busquets - Rakitic

Alba - Umtiti - Pique - Semedo

Ter Stegen
