This is my team 15/16

De Gea
Alves - Smalling - Otamendi - Shaw
Carrick
Herrera - Schweinsteiger
Mata - Rooney - Depay

I think we could line up something like that although Id rather see this

De Gea
Alves - Smalling - Laporte - Shaw
Schneiderlin
Herrera Gundogan
Mata Depay
Rooney

Subs: Valdes,Valencia,Januzaj,Carrick,Blind,Wilson,Pereira,RVP

Some interesting line-ups.
But 1 question: this year (across the full season), our best players have been De Gea, Young, Fellaini and Blind. (I havent included Carrick because he did not play enough games).
In all likelihood these are the players, who if fit, will start for us next year - just as they have this year.
Why have most of you omitted these players?

Doubt that since the target will be to win the league and not just qualify for the UCL

EDIT: The manager has already said he wants to improve the balance but also improve the selection.

De Gea due to he's most likely leaving. Young and Fellaini because we actually want to go places and win some trophies next season.

De Gea is obvious choice if he stays, other than that I can (hopefully) only see Young pushing, mostly because his competition is not strong enough yet

De Gea doesn't belong there. He's likely going to Madrid. Nobody wants him to.

The rest, with the possible exception of Blind, just aren't good enough. There's no upside there.

Young isn't a scoring threat, and you need that from a winger in a 4-5-1/4-3-3 unless they're creatively elite. He had 1 goal and 5 assists in 17 games out left (according to Whoscored). Double that for a full season and you have 2 goals and 10 assists. That's not a horrific season for a winger at all, but it's not good enough for us in our formation.

Fellaini isn't a very good passer and he's a bit clueless defensively. Hopefully he can contribute as a depth player backing up Herrera and a new CM or Di Maria or Mata playing centrally.

We struggled away against mediocre teams this year. I'd like to see us have 2 teams next year, one for blowing teams away and one for matching up with them. This assume Memphis is ready to start right away. If he isn't, Di Maria would start out left in team 2:

Team 1 - Attacking

------Rooney-------
Memphis-----------
-------Mata-DiMaria
---CM---Herrera---
Shaw------------RB
----LCB---Smalling

Team 2 - Solid 2-Way Team

-------Rooney-------
Memphis---Mata/DiMaria
---CM---Herrera---
----Carrick/Blind
Shaw------------RB
----LCB---Smalling

2 big signings like Otamendi/Hummels and Schweinsteiger/Vidal/Gundogan and then a cheaper RB signing like Alves on a free or Darmian should make that possible.

Save some cash and be ready to go after a top of the market superstar to finish building the squad, like Bale, Ronaldo, Koke, Verrati, Pogba, whoever else emerges as a star or maybe a former Van Gaal player looking to come to England like Muller or Robben.

We may not be able to attract that player until next summer and only if we make a solid run in the CL and make a proper title challenge.

1. De Gea
2. Alves
3. Shaw
4. Jones
5. Hummels
6. Kondogbia
7. Di Maria
8. Pjanic
9. Higuain
10. Rooney
11. Depay

subs/reserves Valdes, Johnstone, Smalling, Rojo, Blind, McNair, Blackett, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Januzaj, Perreira, Wilson

--Memphis - Rooney - Di Maria----
-------Gundogan - Herrera----------
--------------Carrick-----------------
Shaw - Otamendi - Smalling - Alves
---------------Cech-------------------

Jesus Christ OP, I know it was a month a go but what aspect of that is realistic

I'd be absolutely ecstatic if we got one of Bale/Verratti/Hummels or even Lacazette!

If it was up to me;

De Gea
Rafael Smalling Otamendi Shaw
Carrick Gundogan
Di Maria Herrera Memphis
Rooney

With another midfielder brought in and a back-up right back.
Think we need a first choice right back cause if we rely on Rafael it'll be the back up playing a lot of games. Don't think we can wait on him any longer which is a shame.

This is close to what I think could happen especially if big Dave quits on us. I am not sure
what striker we could possibly get theres so few available. Id like to see Chicharito get one more crack at it but not sure he will.

Cech
Valdes
Alves Clyne
Otamendi Jones
Smalling Rojo
Shaw Blind
Gundogan Carrick
Herrera Fellaini
Di Maria Young
Depay Januzaj
Mata Pereira
Rooney Van Persie

Wilson, Hernandez, McNair

Still a few world class players away from being at the top though. If we could add Ronaldo to the mix and maybe another top class CM we would take huge strides.

As it stands:

De Gea (Valdes)

Valencia (Rafael) - Smalling (Jones) - Rojo (Jones) - Shaw (Blind)

Herrera (Mata) - Carrick (Blind) - Blind (Fellaini)

Di Maria (Mata) - Rooney (RVP) - Depay (Young)

Mata and Fellaini are not so much reserves as alternative options.

Weak points for me are RB, Carrick's reserve/replacement, and striker, the three positions LVG has alluded to buying in this summer.

LVG wants two players for each position. Mata won't play in the middle and you've got blind and jones covering most of the positions as well as blind starting out of position...

We need one/two centre backs, Carrick replacement/cover an 8 and a striker.

Keepers
De Gea (nothings confirmed, could stay for a season like Ronaldo) Valdes

Defenders
Smalling Varane Jones Shaw Blind Darmian McNair Valencia

Midfielder
Carrick Gundogan Schneiderlin Di Maria

Attacking Mid/Inside Forward
Herrera Mata Januzaj Nani Memphis Fellaini

Strikers
Rooney Wilson Berrardi

In a 433 the middle 3 stay fairly compact, so Blind is just alongside Carrick in his primary position of DCM. The LW is occupied by the forward.

A CB is a secondary requirement, depending on whether LVG thinks McNair can step up to be first choice reserve. I think he will buy if a starter comes available and bump Rojo/Jones down, but wont buy someone just to cover the position.

If Blind comes in to cover Carrick or Shaw, Fellaini is there to cover him. LVG wants two players for each position but that doesnt mean its strictly one player covering one position.

If we are getting a new goalkeeper, then an experienced CB is vital. Big Dave saved our skins goodness knows how many times. We might not be able to rely on the goalie this time round, so that defence has to be solid. It isn't at the moment.

Based on slightly more believable gossip I would like to see; Bold is my team based on current players.

De Gea - otherwise Cech
(Valdes)

Alves Smalling Otamendi Shaw
(Val) (Jones) (Rojo) (Blind)

Schweinsteiger
(Carrick)

Herrera Gundogan
(Mata) (Fellaini)

Di Maria Rooney Depay
(Januzaj) (RvP) (Young)

If Di Maria could regain form and Rooney stays up front all season we would be a lot stronger than last year. Could do with another CF though but who wants to play second fiddle to the undroppable Rooney.

Just a fair bit of Muppetry. :D

De Gea (Valdez)

Rafael (Valencia) Smalling (McNair) Jones (Rojo) Shaw (Blind)

Xhaka (Carrick)
Herrera (Di Maria) -- Gündogan (Fellaini)

Bale (Mata) ---------------------------------- Depay (Young)
Rooney (Chicharito)

You have us buying no CB or RB?? 2 of the 3 positions we are in dire need of improving. Muppetry indeed

For the first league game of the season i would be very happy with this.

someones showing off!

good team though.
 Im using my phone. Trying to type the names in an order so it looks like a formation is impossible knowing it would look rubbish on a pc/mac. This is just an iphone app haha.

It was a bit ott, I agree:). This is more realistic and a team I´d be very happy with
De Gea
Clyne Smalling Rojo Shaw
Herrera Gundogan Verratti
Di Maria Rooney Depay

I think it'd be more realistic that we'd buy a top centre back rather than Verratti!

I can't think of a right back, but I'd like to think we could get Carvajal because Madrid have signed Danilo, so I'm going with:

De Gea
Carvajal-Smalling-Otamendi-Shaw
Gundogan
Herrera - Mata
Di Maria - Rooney - Depay

I'd love to keep hold of De Gea, but we could see his name possibly replaced with Cech/Lloris/Leno. Also, depending how well Rooney plays next season, he could be phased out and replaced with a top striker or possibly even Wilson.

That team would be a very strong side. With Blind on the bench, he could come in occasionally for the big games.

Pretty realistic .

If we start next season with:

De Gea

Alves Smalling Otamendi Shaw

Schneiderlin

Herrera Gundogan

Mata----------------Depay
Rooney

...then I will be one happy chappy  Where to fit in ADM? I don't know. If he can perform well on the wing, then I'm all for him to compete with Depay and Mata. Preferably he should be in middle, but it doesn't seem LVG likes the balance it brings to the team. If we're not going to/can't use him as effectively as possible we may as well sell him, get a good fee, and then use it to perhaps sign a quality forward to back up Rooney with Wilson.

Perfect team structure. 6 lines in the front 6.
Enough control in midfield, and variety in attack.
2nd team.

Also a quality team with some of our youth players getting prominent roles in our squad.

It's kinda looking like this, with the rumours circling at present. Question marks obviously over De Gea and Di Maria. I'd be trying to get Di Maria into the starting 11 somehow, though. Maybe in place of Mata.

For the first league game of the season i would be very happy with this.

If you're gonna draw so much attention with a lineup, please get it right at least.

-Valdez is spelled Valdes
-Alvez is spelled Alves
-Depay is not a right winger. He has never played there.
-Herrera hasn't played a single game at LCM for us. He will play RCM next season.
