Thiago Alcantara at Bayern

I don't think he'll regret it simply because Guardiola will want to put his stamp on the team and I think he'll do it through adding Thiago. Someone like Kroos or Martinez might end up getting the short end of the stick though. While it might not directly hinder Thiago, I think it might hinder Bayern.

Hm...didn't quite understand your final sentence sorry...

Just saying that once Guardiola said he wanted him any chance of Thiago coming here was over.

Quite true. They only have themselves to blame for having got their hopes up groundlessly, on the back of an effing signature on a football, as well as assessing Thiago as the one and only messiah in world football that Manchester United need.

This is true though. He's the best available midfielder in this summer. Shame that Pep needed him.

OP is crazy, we didn't sign him move on.

Thiago has simply done what he thinks is the right move for himself.

Good luck to the guy.

Let's see how he performs at Bayern... Hope he has destroyed his career.

Stay classy. A player choosing another team over Man Utd doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't want to play for Utd. There are other factors (language barriers, climate, living expenses and environment) that a player takes into consideration. He may have had a close connection with Pep already and that alone may have been the deciding factor. Pep has already worked with the player and it seems like he wanted to work with Pep again. It was a no brainer for him.

It always seemed too good to be true.

Good luck to him, hopefully he gets the game time he's after.

I don't hate on Thiago. I hste on the greedy German bastards. Adding another young midfielders to their already crowded group of talents is just taking the piss really. I hope they'll become another CL champions to not make it through the group stage.

Too good to be true? His not good enough for us, thats true. Great players will join us.

Bottom line is not everyone has to want to play for United. He decided that Bayern were a better option for him at this point and fair play to him, he's entitled to that opinion. At the end of the day they are the best team in Europe right now managed by one of the best managers in the world who happened to be his former manager as well. We don't even know the details of the transfers or if United even offered him a deal, from what Moyes said we might have not even wanted him that much.

It's a strange decision but it's to do with the pull of Pep, then the pull of Bayern. United match the pull of Bayern, Moyes doesn't match the pull of Pep. This of course, depends on us being in for him which would surprise me if we weren't. However, as a personal footballing decision, Thiago must have great faith in his ability to get more playing time at Bayern than Barca.

All around I'd say baffling scenes. Regarding the opening post, Kevin is a long-standing fool, take no heed.

If they can find a way to play him regularly then it's an incredible signing. Gotze & Thiago are the two best young talents in the game after Neymar so it should be fun watching them play together.

Terrible business from Barcelona though. He's far, far too good to have lost like this especially with Xavi getting on a bit.

I reckon Ferguson might have convinced him to come to United. It's a bit far fetched and not a dig at Moyes at all but I reckon we've lost some pull when the great man retired, some players might be reluctant to the idea of moving here before Moyes proves that he can continue the legacy. On the other hand being the first man in after the new manager has taken over also has its advantages obviously.

I would suggest it'd be foolish to think otherwise. I agree, though those advantages are little other than to a select few already at the club.

it's always worth discussing for fecks sake..that is what a forum is for...sheesh

I didn't say it isn't worth discussing for feck sake, but to say he hopes that Thiago has destroyed his career isn't exactly great debate... Sheesh

but......

Ah well...Carrick gets injured...Jones it is then...

Bayern managed two snatch up two of the biggest midfield talents in the world in one transfer window. Not too shabby.

We need to react. I think our squad could still win the league with what we've got now, no matter who Chelsea and City bring in. (If we hold on to key players)
However, we stand no chance of winning the champions league, when you consider the squads that Real, Munich and Barca have.

It's high time Manchester United reminded everybody we are a football powerhouse and can compete on all fronts. Major signings needed.

I would put Isco up there with them too but I agree with your point. Crazy from Barca but they always have youngsters coming through these days. In the next 3-4 years there will be a couple of really good quality midfielders coming through I assume.

As things stand I cannot see us matching Bayern or Barca in the Champions League next season but it doesn't mean we couldn't win it, Chelsea did in spite of being an inferior side to both by quite some margin.

I'd like us not only to win it though but to do it on merit by being the best side in Europe. It was the case in 1999 and 2008. Grinding out results while playing defensively is possible for virtually any side but it'd be one off, like Liverpool or Chelsea, what I want is for us to get back to the very top of European football and build another great side. For that we need to address some of the weaknesses and catch up a little and it's going to be very tough with our main competitors strengthening left, right and centre.

I don't think so, according to my Barca supporting friends the current generation of youth isn't quite as promising. When you look at players like Tello, Cuenca or Dos Santos they are fine but not quite at a level that will win you CLs etc. They were really extremely lucky with this crop of talent, I don't think it's going to be repeated for a while.

He would have been great but it is understandable he joins Pep at a club like Bayern. Let's sign Gündogan then

We are only 2 big signings away from being unstoppable, or at least on a par with the big 3. Then again, I'm talking about the likes of Bale/Modric or Ronaldo/Vidal or players of that caliber.

ok...and how do we get to the very top of European Football? Buy..or invest and develope our youth teams?

Really, I have heard about Sergi Samper he's 17 they have bright hopes for him but he plays deeper in Busuets role. The bar is so high there I agree, their decent midfielders would get into most top 8 sides in most of the best leagues but may not be at Iniesta, Busquets, Xavi level. This crop did not all come out at the same time though this team has been 10 years in the making. I think they will be fine. They are a big club they must have some promising youth players.

Both Barca and Bayern both have a strong homegrown presence which is supplemented by the very best Foreign players. That is how we should do it also. We had Ravel and Pogba but they are gone, they could have been midfielders here for the next 5-10 years. So now we look at the next batch, we must be patient. Barca and Bayern did not happen overnight we have a good core now just a few positions need improving imo.

Pogba and Morrison can't be put in the same category. We've seen what Pogba can do on the pitch, and we've seen what Morrison can do off it. Getting rid of him was the right decision, unlike Pogba.

Well I doubt we're getting this level of players anytime soon. Our defence is good enough to compete and our forwards are the best you can get but our midfeld is really lagging behind. If all our wingers can retain form they'll be up there with the best but trouble is we probably won't keep Nani for much longer considering Woodward's comments about no renewals being in place, Valencia has been poor for a year, Young is just about good enough to be a squad player and Zaha is unknown quality. I hope we switch to 4231 with Kagawa occupying one of the places behind van Persie so that'llmonly leave room for one classic winger assuming Rooney stays.

I think dreadful is a bit harsh, passionate and a bit hurt yes....but dreadful is rather elitist...

Anybody that wishes a player ill purely because he chose another team, over ourselves, is a dreadful individual. Just how far we were down the line with this boy is yet to be determined. Passion is a great thing, but mixed with immaturity and the desire to be funnier than the next guy, really portrays us in a bad light. When you read the Bayern forums and see some of the re-quotes from here, it is a tad embarrassing.

Elitist I am not, a realist I am.

well..its a bit ironic for me. Ferguson always went on about youth, nurturing it, developing it, but actually very few have come through. You are right about Pogba and Ravel, the former of which I think the club made a mistake over.
