Thiago Alcantara at Bayern

Top/successful teams always bring in a player or two to stay successful. It keeps things fresh and it keeps players from becoming complacent.

I hope Thiago does well at Bayern. If I wasn't a United supporter, I'd have signed for Bayern as well.

Kagawa, is that you?

Badstuber is out all season I think. Gotze has played there before for Germany, look at the game against brazil a few years ago. They used a 4-1-4-1 with gotze as a false 9 and he's said he liked playing there.

Again? He just missed last year. He did play there this season also they are trying to get him and Ozil both in the team. I don't think false 9 suits his best attributes, for me he is a creator but I could see the front 4 not really having set positions all constantly moving making them hard to mark. With the support he would have and 40-50 goals coming from the 3 behind him it could work.

Must admit this is very frustrating.

No doubt in my mind that Thiago will go on to become one of the best players in the world in the next few years.

Our midfield is a joke. Yes, we still have a while to go in the transfer window, but unless we sign 1-2 quality midfielders we cannot compete with Europe's big boys.

Another Scholesy classic, he'd also play Anderson at left back and Fabio in central midfield.

This has annoyed me no end. There is no midfielder of his quality/potential available at that price anywhere.

Who actually thought we'd buy Thiago? I mean honestly, who actually thought it?

For a few days I actually thought we might sign a quality midfielder but the longer it dragged on without any comment I got to my senses and remembered that signing quality midfielders isn't really our thing. :(

I honestly don't understand how people can follow transfers as though they are collecting cards in Top Trumps or something, it's absolutely ridiculous. Furthermore, don't believe any transfer until it's on the BBC website.

I did. We were linked with him last year and with his contract clause this summer and our apparent interest I thought we had a good chance of getting him.

I hope we draw Bayern in the CL and win on away goals after they go a man down due to a dodgy sending off.

Rafael can keep Ribery quiet. He already did in 2010.

The second Pep said he was interested, any chance we might have had went out the window. I don't think it was ever really on the cards though, it wouldn't have been so public otherwise.

I don't really get this point, other people I know have made it as well, I haven't really got invested in the transfer but I can understand with those who have. He's young, going at a good price, and fills a role we've been looking for, easy to believe we would be in for him and given his own comments about needing to play regularly to progress, particularly with Spain it made even more sense to think that we should be looking at him at the very least, with both parties being a good fit for each other. If you left out the media speculation and just learnt that there was a player of his quality available at a relatively cheap price would you not think it's possible we were looking at him and certainly think we should be? It's only in the last few days or so the Bayern links have become strong and even then whilst it was always likely he'd chose there once Pep made his comments, before that there was still potential it could happen.

Aye when I heard the Pep comments last week I knew we'd lost out on him. Initially though I didn't really believe the Bayern interest was that concrete considering the midfield they already have.

I'm not gonna lie, we could really have done with him. You rarely see such quality young players available for a decent price. Pep killed this one dead in the water the moment he opened his mouth.

But apparently we're working on our targets. So let's see what they come up with.

Read that the fee was around 25m and Thiago was willing to pay 4m for the transfer (similar to Martinez who was willing to pay around 8-10m last season.

we are searching...that's what Moyes said. If we are still searching....God help us

feck this. Exactly the player we need. Hope he, Pep and Bayern fail miserably, although its almost impossible after all that spending they have done. Couldnt care less if this sounds bitter.

I can't believe some of you still want to talk about this. I'm forgetting it ever happened.
