Thiago Alcantara at Bayern

Certainly will make Bayern's time under Pep interesting - is he really going to take them the Barca route despite saying he wouldn't? There isn't much at Bayern that needs improving, but bringing in Thiago seems like Pep will try to make a mark early.

Certainly early favourites for the Champions League, though if Barca can make the right moves then it might not be so cut and dry.

As for us - I'm gutted we didn't get Thiago, he really was my muppet transfer pick and I would've happily taken him as our only signing (Varela excepted of course). It isn't Thiago or the Guardiola brothers' fault that we are in the state we are in central-midfield - season after season of not even a Bebe or Manucho-type signing in that position has led us to this feeling of depression in missing out on a superbly talented but unproven player. We shouldn't feel this gutted but there's nobody to blame but ourselves for being in this position.

I think Pep might not play with a recognized CF and instead play Goetze or Muller as a "false 9" using Mandzukic as a backup option. That should create room for Thiago to play lots of games in midfield. I also don't think Robben will be first choice and perhaps Ribery as well simply because in the past Pep hasn't necessarily used direct wingers as a Plan A option.

Robben's far from 1st choice, thats for sure. Ribery is far too good and far too important, even Guardiola cant rock the boat that much. Goetze might play as the false 9, thats what i think too.

Bayern have a hell of a squad now, and first 11.
Neuer
Lahm Martinez Dante Alaba
Schweinsteiger
Muller Kroos thiago Ribery
Gotze

Not half bad... Still have the likes of robben, Shaqiri, Gustavo, and mandzukic on the bench.

He's German and is part of the best team in the world right now. I doubt he wants to leave.

Give it a year of getting no game time. Thiago was essentially Spanish and part of the best team in the world over the last five years.

I wouldn't play Gotze up top either. I am eager to see what he actually does. Badstuber will be back in defence also.

Has Xherdan Shaqiri been mentioned at all? Isn't his time at Bayern over with Thiago coming in?

They play different positions.

But in a way, still potentially yes. Gotze, Muller, Ribery and Kroos all play in the same positions as Shaqiri, and they are less likely to be needed elsewhere thanks to Thiago's arrival. I don't see Shaqiri getting much of a look-in any more. (Don't really want him, incidentally. I've never rated him as highly as many seem to.)

They only need to go a year because they will Lewandowski 12 months from now and Manduzic is more than capable of playing there in the big games with the amount of quality he has playing behind him.

Badstuber is out all season I think. Gotze has played there before for Germany, look at the game against brazil a few years ago. They used a 4-1-4-1 with gotze as a false 9 and he's said he liked playing there.

Last time I checked Kroos plays as a CAM or a CM not on the wing. Ribery and Robben are a year older. They would be stupid to let him go. He has huge potential that kid.

Schweinsteger/Martinez-----Kroos/Thiago

Robben-----Muller/Götze------Ribery/Shaqiri

They are going to be playing around 50 games next season. There is plenty of games to get game time.

I think that he's a long term replacement for Ribery. He has shined on preseason but I don't think that he'll have that many chances in this season. A loan similar to that of Kroos before would be the best option for him.

I imagine Pere & Pep had a conversation after United started to balk at the minutes clause issue (If there was indeed an impasse with that) and Guardiola realized he had his opportunity to convince the player and feel at peace with buying a Masia product who was being undervalued at his club, as well

They may take the best players but we get the best sponsors. Id rather have aeroflot then thiago. I guess getting a proven winner as manager did help after all.

Not this season but the one after when Lewandowski signs, there will be room for only two of Gotze, Kroos and Thiago in the starting line up. With Gotze being a huge money signing, Thiago probably being more favoured by Pep.. Kroos could become unhappy. Especially as Bayern never needed Thiago.

The power of the agent shows its head again. Onwards and upwards.

I think Bayern have made a mistake by tinkering with that very solid midfield.

Good luck to Thiago......... time to grow a pair.

People seriously need to get this out of their heads. Robben won't be first choice next season, and he wasn't first choice last season. He was barely playing and then when Kroos got injured, Muller took Kroos place leaving Robben playing in Muller's place. Bayern formation on attacking was:

Muller Kroos Ribery
Mandzukic

Lets spare a thought for DDG.

I think he will be a success there - it's really hard not to be. Pep will play him a decent amount. Someone will probably move on in the next 12 months.

Atleast this saga is over. Once Pep talked it up, you knew he'd sway thiago (if he needed swaying). They have Kirchhoff now aswell, never realised that at all. They have great versatility in that squad, just depends if they can keep everyone happy.

Some potential Thiago-inclusive Bayern lineups:

The 'Martinez Reloaded':

Lahm Dante Martinez Alaba
Schweinsteiger
Gotze Muller Thiago Ribery
Mandzukic
The 'Bayerncelona'
Lahm Dante Boateng Alaba
Martinez
Schweinsteiger Thiago
Muller Gotze Ribery
'Bayerncelona Xtreme, now with extra Pep'
Lahm Dante Martinez Alaba
Schweinsteiger
Thiago Kroos
Muller Gotze Ribery
And there are so many more obvious ones to do. These are all basically just variations on one narrow theme. The one thing which unites all potential formations, though, is that someone important to a treble-winning side is going to end up benched and pissed off.

They want to stay on top and propably win even more trophies. What's wrong with that ?

How about 'Time to grow a midfield'.

I said this when Pep start talking about Thiago, that we should try to get Kroos but I think that he won't leave. He's very good and when Lewa goes to Bayern it could be Ribery the victim, cause after all he'll be 31 years old at the time. It could also be the possibility of Pep playing 3-4-3 (3-6-1) which means that plenty of midfielders will play there. I can't see Bayern selling him, especially cause there the board doesn't necessarily listen to the coach and they rate Kroos very highly.

All those would be better with Kroos instead of Thiago IMO.

I don't even want to look at possible Bayern formations, their quality and depth now sickens me.

He's a good player and that move might work well for him, but it's impossible to add Gotze and thiago to a treble winning midfield and expect everyone to be happy, trying to please everyone could backfire.

I think pep has made a mistake here.

The signing of Thiago baffles me. They don't need him, at all. Kroos is a better player, for me. Thiago is behind Kroos, Muller, Gotze, Schweinsteiger and Martinez, for my money, as far as midfield options are concerned. And moving Martinez into defence to accommodate him takes away a lot of their midfield solidity. For me, Pep has got needlessly greedy here, signing a player he doesn't need and potentially disrupting a solid, stable midfield line-up.

'Bayerncelona Xtreme, now with extra Pep'
Lahm Dante Martinez Alaba
Schweinsteiger
Thiago Kroos
Muller Gotze Ribery

This is the best shot to not make unhappy anyone of their most important players. The two first formations works with Kroos in place of Thiago perfectly.
