Music The Ultimate Metal thread.

Found this just by sailing through Youtube's waves of shit.

From 2006... How the feck this album missed my attention.

New Metallica song, Lords of Summer. Loving the vocals, feels like a return to justice style barking. I know it's just a demo, but it's a fecking good one, production already 10x better than Death Magnetic.

I love going back through my albums and finding ones that I absolutely cannot get sick of. Outworld's self-titled one is an absolute gem. If you want US power/heavy metal where quality flows right through it, then do yourself a favour and pick it up.

I like nearly all the individual Maiden songs I've heard, which I imagine are the 'hits'. I've never actually heard an LP all the way through. Where's a good place to start with their albums?

My personal favourite albums are probably Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Somewhere In Time, but you can't go wrong with Number of the beast either. Piece of Mind and Powerslave are fantastic too. I think i started with Seventh Son so that's probably partly why it's one of my personal favourites.

Seventh Son is probably my favourite, too. The Number of the Beast was my introduction to the band, though, and is excellent.

You can't go wrong with any of the first 7 albums really. I'd say they really hit their peak with the trio of Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son, as they're the most consistent and complete albums. The other albums are still good for at least a few killer songs on each album, but usually have a few weaker moments as well.

NOTB is i think the easiest place to start, after that probably Powerslave or Piece of mind. If you like what you hear then 7th son of a 7th son and Somewhere in Time as they're a bit harder to get into, lots of keyboards and progressive songwriting. A Matter of Life and Death is one i love too. Gritty, epic, right down to the cover. Final Frontier, Starblind and The Talisman aside i couldn't get into. Thought it was quite weak tbh.

I loved A Matter of Life and Death too!

Yeah i kind of felt the same about The Final Frontier at first too but i had like a week where i played it multiple times a day every day and that's when it really grew on me. Having said that, i haven't listened to it in it's entirety for a long time now and i would agree it certainly isn't their best work. Still pretty good though.

It's not a bad record, Alchemist i liked, El Dorado was pretty good. It just doesn't stand up to the last 3 albums imo. 4 years now, and no talk of a follow up. Been a bit quiet on the Maiden front for a while now.

Would be nice to hear something about a new album but to be honest, i don't blame them for taking it easy. I mean, they're all old men now ffs!

I guess, but to look at Bruce jumping round like mad every night you wouldn't think so.

I know, mental isn't it? We'll see what happens. Can't say they've been doing nothing though, been touring and whatnot a fair bit recently.

They never stop. Just wish that them and Metallica would get out of releasing films, ales, other ventures and get back to making records. But they've got nothing to prove. Who knows, maybe they're bored of it?

There is that, but i imagine after so many years it's difficult to come up with new material that you believe in. I mean, perhaps they've said everything they want to say with their music? I guess inspiration can still strike at any time though, so i wouldn't count them out completely yet.

I listened to Sabaton's Carlous Rex last night. feck me, i love this band. Being a History student as well i end up reading tons about what their songs are based on (if i don't already know). Musically though, i thought it was a great effort and i'm sure as shit looking forward to more from these guys!

Their new album is coming out next month :)
