Gullible
This is also ticking my boxes. So heavy. Absolutely bonkers.
I'm all about properly brutal tech-death metal right now, but my least favourite aspect of it is those low-register cookie monster vocals, which are essentially a death-metal staple, unfortunately.
There's the odd band that use them in moderation and opt for more shouty/screamed vocals, like Revocation and Aborted, which I much prefer. I'm struggling to find more though. Anyone got any recommendations?
I have heard zero Opeth. Looks like there's plenty on Spotify. I'll give them a spin.

As far as Opeth goes, Damnation is my favourite album because I'm soft, but I do like Ghost Reveries too. Baying of the Hounds was the first song that made me think "wait, I actually kind of like this" with them.
Was quite surprised that supposedly another Melodic Death Metal band can produce something that sounds great. The genre lives on. Among established names like Dark Tranquillity or Insomnium I gotta say this sounds pretty cool.
Melodeath is still strong as ever, but like Power Metal, the truly outstanding outfits have withered down for each passing year as the genre got saturated with mediocrity.
Insomnium has consistently put out great albums.
The above album is just packed with ideas and packs a nice punch. Highly recommended.
I can only dream that In Flames could ever return to that vibe and atmosphere.
...or 'Jester Script Transfigured' from Whoracle.Stop dreaming, In Flames just aren't interested in producing anything close to decent music anymore. They don't even care about their first few albums anymore, routinely ignoring them in live sets in favour of their truly horrific recent offerings. The last even remotely acceptable show I've seen of them dates back to 2005, and even then the downward trajectory was well and truly on. It saddens me to hear them now and think this is supposed to be the same band as the one that did all those beautiful melodies on The Jester Race. I couldn't even call them a cheap knock off anymore.
At least he didn't sport that ridiculous hat like these days....or 'Jester Script Transfigured' from Whoracle.
2005 You say ? Anders probably already had that 'Korn' haircut and heading for a new metal 'glory'.
I always thought that Soilwork was a humble younger brother of In Flames and bit overshadowed... not anymore. Their latest double combo album I gotta say is quite okay.
Reminds me a bit of Mad Capsule Markets
Exactly what I thought after hearing this one.
And yes I got their album. There is some dross on there but it's not bad.
Their MA profile picture:
Yep, that's about right! I listen to a lot of stuff like that and they all (more or less) go in for that kind of thing.
Ever been to a gig where the crowd dress like that too? Brilliant fun! I didn't dress up last time but next time I go I am for sure dressing up!
Also, this Babymetal is AWESOME!
This is ridiculous crap that was sent to me just now. I can't actually believe it exists.
Sadly, it is better than listening to David Moyes.
