Music The Ultimate Metal thread.

That Bloodshot Dawn stuff sounds like a carbon copy of Arch Enemy, classic Amott guitar sound. Not bad though, had it been an Arch Enemy album, it would've been their best work since Wages of Sin. I'm curious about that new At the Gates album, but dreading it at the same time. Let's hope they pull a Carcass and actually create something that lives up to the expectations.

Any Mastodon fans? New track 'High Road' is up for streaming. Sounds fecking killer. Great riff, awesome chorus, loving the Crack The Skye style vocals too.

Big thanks for that, amazing song! I can't wait for the new album. I believe they have reached their peak of creativity and they simply can't do anything wrong, right now. And they are on the verge of becoming a "big" band. Yet, i would love for some more fast songs like the ones in Leviathan and Blood Mountain.

"Falling from grace cause i've been away too long, leaving you behind with my lonesome song, now i'm lost in oblivion..."

Brann is great isn't he? Amazing drummer, lyricist, singer, and funny as hell.

Yeah, definitely. The only time i did not regret buying the special edition of an album, when it only had a bonus DVD with interviews and studio reports, was "The Hunter". I still can't stop laughing whenever i watch this. Probably the best track by track review ever...

A couple of months ago a friend sent me this video. Loved it.
Q: If somebody made a movie about your life, what would it be called and who would play you?
A: It's obvious that Brad Pitt would play me, even the younger version of myself, and it would be called "Brann Dailor, an incredible journey through the eyes of Brad Pitt". What do you think? :D

Yeah they're great, the video with the kids especially. He's just funny whoever he talks to.

Never really listened to much priest but listening to that I just may have to listen to more.

Definitely, they are one of the best when it comes to 80's British heavy metal. I would recommend any album from "Sad Wings of Destiny" (1976) till "Defenders of the Faith" (1984) and of course "Painkiller". Tipton-Downing were one of the best guitar duos in heavy metal and Halford is among the very best voices in the genre. Since you liked that song, i would also recommend Halford's first two solo albums "Resurrection" and "Crucible".

Cheers I'll give those suggestions a listen to for sure.

The beers are in, so time to warm up this thread.

A song featuring one of my favourite vocalists, Jessie Leach, on one of my favourite albums. It was all downhill from here but Alive or Just Breathing is flawless.

How did you like last year's album with Leach back on vocals? I liked it alot. I was never a fan of Howard Jones. His style was just so odd, especially the melodic stuff.

I liked it, but I'm not a big fan of the production. Leach doesn't sound quite as raw to me.

What's better than an Entombed video? An Entombed video featuring The Toxic Avenger. And Lesbians.

Some grind/death

Some doom/death

Some classic death from the golden era

Something from Killer Be Killed, super-group feat. Max Cavalera (ex-Sepultura, Soulfly, CC, Troy Sanders (Mastodon), Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan), Dave Elitch (ex Mars Volta).

Been listening to so much Rainbow recently, Rising is such an underrated album. The song Stargazer alone is basically the best metal song ever written and it was released before anybody even knew what it was.

Has any metal vocalist even come close to Dio in his prime since either?

I agree it's a brilliant record, but i don't think it's overrated really. It's pretty much acknowledged as one of the best hard rock albums ever i think. That, Heaven and Hell and Holy Diver is seen by many as the best 3 things Dio ever did, although i'd place the first two far above Holy Diver.

He easily had the best voice in heavy metal, it's not even a contest. That performance on Stargazer is ridiculous, but he's spectacular on almost anything he's ever done. Brilliant live singer as well, even when I last saw him less than a year before his death. That was what shocked me the most about his death, he still sounded so incredibly powerful and energetic and less than a year later he was just gone. Awful disease.

He was headlining bloodstock the year I went with heaven and hell. Passed away a couple of months before, was absolutely devastated.

Really, really wish i'd gone to see Heaven and Hell. Saw the Ozzy line-up, but it wouldn't even be for sentimental reasons such as seeing the old Mob Rules material- they were touring on the back of a great new record.

Even though it's completely different than Dio's vocals, Mikael Akerfeldt has a great voice as well. Both his grunts as well as his clear vocals are superb. Example of both:
