The Trump Presidency - Part 2

It's messed up. Journalist Tim Alberta if I recall correctly talked about his experiences with evangelical Christians and how they've increasingly radicalized.

He had his "holy shit" moment when at his fathers funeral he was lectured by a church elder on how Trump is great and how criticizing Trump is tantamount to treason.

It seems like dark times ahead for the US.
Already here if you ask me

On a different topic, I'm awaiting the eggs explanation!

A dozen eggs in my local Aldi last week were $3,89, today they are $6.05

Case in point.

Followed up by a "attack" on me based on an incorrect assumption.
What is the term ‘your consistently right wing talking points and views’ supposed to evoke in the reader?

Odd comparison with me there. For one I have no issue nailing my colours to the nast.
I know, that’s why I said it. But then if your instinct is to look for the good in something that was fundamentally anti-human then I don’t really have to add much to it.

And, to deal with your analogy, I'm not an advocate of the failed Soviet system, just the theory it was based on.
Such people have been very useful as the saying goes. Sarcasm aside, would you at least describe yourself as a Trotskyist perhaps?

Are you really saying you're a fan of the theory behind present day Russia? It would explain a lot to be fair.
Oh yeah, I love Russia and everything to do with it. Vlad’s a great lad altogether.

I was referring to the alternating use of , and . as your decimal marker. :)
Naw, that's just my shit eyesight and the fact that a comma and a period are next to each other on my keyboard! and TBH I don't think I ever wrote it like that back in the old country, been that long since I've been I don't remember!

really interesting data

suffice to say subverting reality on the subject of one person is a much quicker process than subverting an entire nation's view of your despotic regime

but I'd never have imagined it could be that quick

This AP news article hows just how fecked up some of the American people are
The brainwashing of MAGA has been so complete that they now see any civil servant as being a parasite.
No matter how ineffective Trump is as a president, this toxic ignorance is not going to disappear anytime soon.

The storming of the capitol building shows how fast things like this can spiral out of control, yet they just keep pushing the right buttons to fuel more hatred. It's just beyond me how anyone can think it's a good idea to actually run a country like this even after winning the election. Trump could state that he's going to nuke canada so that the US can take their oil and gas, and the vast majority would applaud the idea just on the basis of it being said by Trump. It's fascinating.

I'd argue the hardest of hardcore MAGA are almost exclusively online and rabid social media users. This data could suggest, imo, that simply updating a facebook group post or a 4chan thread is disseminating new beliefs almost instantly. which then creates new social hierarchies within the groups to then fit in with or be seen as ostracised. Instead of your grandparents or parents getting their ideology from talkback radio (very isolated), social media instantly creates communities and collective identity.

Destroying the economy, decades long relationships with close allies and now the environment too. So much winning!

With things like this it's really tricky not to think he's just doing evil shit for the sake of it at this point. I hope the evil, tiny-cocked demagogue dies roaring.

This is just what happens when an extreme capitalist gets unchecked power, nothing matters but material gain at the expense of everything.

Trump questioning the border agreement between canada and USA is so worrying, I assume he's just doing it as a negotiation tactic but you never know with this cnut
There's a theory that he wants full American control of the Great Lakes (as a minimum) which would mean Toronto becoming an American city. I think he's seen Putin taking part of Ukraine and thinks he can do the same to Canada, but through economic pressure instead of military.

He has no idea how much America is disliked in Canada right now. He also seems to be completely ignorant to the fact that Canada's head of state is King Charles III. Not once has that been brought up when Trump and his staff make stupid 51st state comments. Nor has he mentioned the idea of giving Canadian's a say in the matter. If it went to a vote, it'd be at least 65% against becoming part of the US.

I'm slightly concerned but also feel like Canada is pulling all of the levers we have across provinces bordering the US. Ontario supplies energy to 1.5 million homes in New York, and now Doug Ford (Ontario's Premier) is going to add a 25% tariff to the energy Canada provides to three states. BC will be taxing American trucks passing through the province on the way to/from Alaska. Alberta are also implementing their own tools to combat what Trump is doing.

Canada provides large numbers of raw products to the US.

Give it 12 months and this 51st state nonsense will be forgotten. Could do with the Dems getting their sh*t together though by the mid-terms. They're losing the information war and seem to be on the wrong side of social issues when it comes to what the average American voter thinks.

Don't limit the critique to just capitalism. It opens the door to people highlighting how extractive and environment destroying all self-proclaimed Communist states have been as well. Exploitation is within all humans, it's about creating systems where people come together to agree that exploitation should have guardrails at a minimum.

The crowd booed Trump when he said he took the Covid vaccine and something like they should too.

So there’s a limit, but it’s set by disinformation, not by reality.

Canada is in a unique position, where each province trades more with the US than with each other.

That’s surely going to make this tariff game very hard on Canada.

Bet he's fecking awful at poker

I guarantee he cheats. It's well known and well reported by eye witnesses that he cheats at golf. He's often been seen moving his ball to get a better lie and also cutting shots from his scorecard. He's declared himself winner of tournaments that didn't even happen too and claims to hold course records on courses they have had pro tournaments on FFS

This all just shows what kind of person he is and it just fecking amazes me how anyone can like him at all. If you add it in with rape, sexual abuse, lying, stealing, grassing people up, draft dodging, starting hate campaigns to get young black men arrested for crimes they didn't commit, racist housing policies, abusing black war veterans, abusing a grieving widow, giving secrets to foreign countries, working for the rich to get them and himself richer, ignoring protocol and disrespecting world leaders and also the Queen of England, having multiple affairs and fathering kids with his new woman while still married. He even lies about being religious FFS, I'm not religious but that even offends me....

A lying cowardly bully that is selfish, thoughtless and completely without empathy, just look at those recent Trump Gaza adverts. To top it all off, he's as thick as mince too. Honestly he's a fecking piece of shit human. The lowest of the low.

I just hope he continues to cut departments and cost people their jobs so resentment grows and this downward trend in the stock market and the economy continues and forces the US in to a deep recessionn, maybe even depression. I also hope his insane policies provoke the right reactions from the rest of the world as that may be the only way for his supporters to wake the feck up and see the truth.

That is such a horrible thing to say as millions could suffer and obviously I don't want anyone to suffer but the way he's going, the alternative is going to end in war. The reaction from Canada's leader, EU leaders and the likes of Poland seeking nukes just goes to show that behind the scenes the majority of the world is seriously worried about what he's doing and what he may do.

Remember when Biden welcomed Zelensky and called him "President Putin"? Well he's not wrong. He predicted it. In the end US welcomes Russia.

I agree, my post wasn't to be some sort defence of communism or any other ideology. I was just pointing out the most extreme version of capitalism which Trump ascribes to is so destructive to society and the environment. And it's even more dangerous given the job he has.

Nah i didn't take it as Communism defence. All good mate. I was focusing more on the idea that the capitalism argument should be capitalism....and XYZ.

Sorry didn't mean to want to single you out, when I was scroll through it just stuck out to me at the time :)

"I think he's hitting them [Ukraine] harder than he's been hitting them," Trump said.
"I want to know they [Ukraine] want to settle and I don't know they want to settle," Trump said, when asked why he had cut off aid to Kyiv.
What the ever loving feck is he talking about.

Trump often doesn't answer questions and instead just starts attacking the person asking them, even with personal insults. It's insane.

But this is where the next reporter needs to follow up with the same question or something similar and as provocative. He fecking bullies them like he does everyone else. If all the reporters got on the same page then he wouldn't be able to get away with it.

He's held to completely different standards than any other President because he's such a bully. The American public has a right to know about things that have been reported unless it's classified info.

The press are completely at fault here because they are cowards. He's already removed certain news companies from his speeches and controls which companies/reporters are allowed to the White House for briefings etc so they don't want to be put on that list as well.

If they did he would do as he has done in the past when he REALLY lost it and walked out of a BBC interview. If he did that in the White House or lost his temper and kicked the reporters out just for asking questions then I'm sure he would upset or even lose a portion of his supporters and it would signal an untold amount of unwanted bad press around the entire world.

The US press have to change their strategy and stop this nonsense, but sadly I doubt they will. I do however think he's in for a tough time when he visits Europe or Canada or gets in front of the worlds press at any of the various world summits he will have to attend.

He's definitely in for shit when he comes to the UK for his State visit or if he visits France, because they won't let some of his recent comments and actions go. For all the shit he's causing he's bringing a lot on to himself whereas before he was only really fecking with the American publics' lives, now he's fecking with pretty much the rest of the world and putting many in real danger. On top of that he and his vicious little sidekick Vance are also insulting then to boot. Hopefully he or Vance kick off royally. Chipping away at their support is the only way to get them and putting their backs to the wall in the worlds press might force the US press to do the same collectively.

We can only live in hope.

Just to expand on my earlier reply Pogue:

That's just hilariously deluded.
"If you ignore Transnistria and Abkhazia, Russia didn't want to invade anyone in the 90s. It totally started after NATO enlargement."
Also, I wonder why people quoting him today seem to skip over the part about their far advanced democracy. After all, this is an important part of reasoning.
