The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Call me old fashioned, but surely politicians shouldn't be communicating their thoughts through a medium that limits you to 140 characters? Politics and public policy is more nuanced that that, surely?

No, there would likely be intense outrage among at least half the Republicans so there would be enough votes to get an independent counsel. Trump is probably dumb enough to think that simply firing Mueller would make the investigation go away when all it would do is galvanize Republicans against him since this would more or less be a dictator move.
I have absolutely zero faith that these Republicans would do anything. They've so far all shown they won't stand up to Trump.

Most politicians use Twitter to communicate their thoughts. Its the new standard of communication. Even press releases are increasingly no longer emailed to journos, they are simply uploaded by tweet.

Also, Newt is retired.

I'm confident they would. If you think the rage about health care at town halls is bad now, wait til Trump tries a stunt like this. With the mid terms just around the corner, most politicians can't tolerate public outrage. Also, Trump's poll numbers may dip into the high 20s, which would give a lot of Republicans top cover to defect to sanity.

Gerrymandered district are built with certain assumptions and I've read that Trump might be revolting enough that several districts designed to help republicans will go blue in 2018.

Sadly turtle mcturtleface won't lose senate. No chance that something like Texas electing s democratic senator will happen anytime soon.

There was outrage over the first version of the AHCA bill so they backed down, then came out with an even worse version of the bill that some Republican congressmen admitted they didn't even read and that passed. Now there are reports they are trying to do the exact same thing in the Senate to get a revised bill passed. Sadly a lot of Republicans are not doing town halls to avoid having to deal with constituents (side note, how town halls or something similar isn't required to be in office is beyond me). The congressman who represents my district has avoided having town halls for a while.

It would take something immensely catastrophic for these Republicans to not fall in line with the president. They've already tried to back him with shit like Paul Ryan's 'He's new at this' line the other day.

Yep, you are right. At least, I agree with you.

That immensely catastrophic thing will be the realization that Trump's agenda - the same agenda they ran on - will never be implemented and they now own Trump's failure and corruption. Self-preservation will make a good number of Republicans peel off.

Would they though? The Republicans would double down surely and that's it all gone?

Suicide by Trump

That would be hilarious: Trump fires him to dull the investigation, he gets reinstated in a more powerful role where he does not have to go through the AG or dAG who are Trump appointees during the prosecution of his investigation, all while alienating GOPhers up for reelection in 2018.

I'd have to see a voting breakdown on re-establishing the Independent Counsel Law before I got excited, though.

What sort of innocent man behaves the way Trump has been behaving - firing the FBI Director and now considering firing the special prosecutor who is investigating him.

People who are innocent would immediately open up every aspect of their lives to get the investigation over with. Trump is doing the opposite.

You should know better than to apply logic to this man's actions.

Like someone else on here who posits he is in mental decline based on how he spoke/interviewed in the 80/90's relative to now, I don't think it's preposterous to claim his faculties are degrading rapidly.

It's usually the badly photoshopped floating heads and outdatedly fronted gibberish superimposed over random stock footage that does it for me... but what do I know?

I joined a David Icke forum for "research" on a writing project once, and all I took away from it was how bad conspiracy loons are at graphic design. Though tbf his effort has admirably avoided the textbook cliches of 'glowing red evil eyes', 'unnecessarily oversaturated Matrix greenness', and 'Pyramids'... Conspiracy loons fecking love their pyramids.

The genral unhinged aesthetic gives me pause. But the lack of pyramids is encouraging.

Come on now, you cant be a real conspiracy loon if you don't take your graphic design inspiration from 1990's Angelfire websites. :)

Innocent people don't start firing everyone who is investigating into them. There's a big criminal conspiracy at the end of the thread here that these assholes are trying their hardest to cover up.

You have to take seriously at this point the possibility that Cheeto Jesus is balls deep into this whole mess. If it's only his campaign aides or associates involved he'd dump them faster than his wife swatting away his grubby claws to save his own hide.

Surely he can't get away with firing another person investigating him.

Surely he can't get away with firing another person investigating him.

If he does it it won't be because he thinks he can get away with it, it will be a disrupting tactic designed to delay the inevitable.

Everyone should just start saying there probably wasn't any collision between Trump and Russia because he isn't smart or strong enough to pull something like that off. He'd confess in no time.

The whole thing seems so odd and stupid that i think he is trolling people.

He is trying to lead demos and others to get in his plays when and where he wants them.

And, in the end he will be clear of anything serious wrongdoings and laugh at people and make his base and the support for him bigger.

I am hoping it is not it.

One possible scenario is Trump not being directly involved in this Russia collusion stuff, but he's worried that Mueller will uncover illegal activities at the Trump organisation and that's why he wants to get rid of him.

I don't think so. I think he's emotionally unstable. He gets upset then stews on his paranoia. In the end he cant help himself.
You heard reports that he was shocked by the reaction to the Comey sacking.
He can't help himself.

If Trump truly is guilty then he doesn't really have any option other than to fire Mueller and hope for the best.

The main point will be how Trump played the game with the Russians, if he is guilty (which I don't know yet), in terms of leaving evidence. What we've seen in the Comey testimony is that Trump sure as hell knows how to play this sort of game. One-on-one meetings, ambiguous statements, subtle hints on a meta-sphere - in an administration that makes amateurish mistakes in pretty much every aspect of politics, with Comey he didn't feck up (if we just consider the way he tried to influence him).

Trump and his team could have covered their tracks well enough, but what about the Russians?

Putin's a smart guy and its likely the Russians kept hold of evidence in case things went pear shaped. If there was a deal that Trump and Russians did (e.g. to get rid of sanctions) and Trump never followed through on the deal, then the Russians may be tempted to leak stuff to the FBI.

Only way to stop the investigations are to disband the FBI and congress (which he cant do).
He has Congress.

One guy on O' Donnell show made a pretty valid point. He is banking on his base not deserting him no matter what he says or does, so as long as this holds true the GOP wont bolt and he can get away with anything.

Wow that video of his Cabinet basically sucking his dick with words is pathetic. How can seasoned politicians do that & not cringe?! As someone said on my Facebook feed, all that was missing was 'dear leader'.

What I find remarkable is the blind support/loyalty he has. It's like a cult following where Trump can't do anything wrong. Republicans are wankers for allowing him to get away with so much shit.

I believe that was me. I meant to grab some videos to post. I'll try later today. His vocabulary has not changed much but he's changed from being lucid to incoherent.

Ivanka Trump said that her dad has suffered and continues to suffer "unimaginable levels of viciousness"

:mad::mad::mad:

It makes me so angry that these rich, entitled cnuts can and will act the victim and try to take the moral high ground no matter what happens. If Trump was assassinated (I am not calling for this to happen) you would never hear the end of it, ever. If Trump was impeached, you would never hear the end of it from Trump himself. He would tour the world and make millions on stories of waaaaah and how hard done by he is. Is he and are they NEVER going to be held accountable for their destructive and hurtful shit? As someone on Twitter replied to Ivanka "IF you want to see unimaginable levels of viciousness then go and do what no Republican has done so far, READ the American Healthcare Act"

Oh, and remember this!

Takes some neck to come out with these things after the way Trump himself (as well as the other GOP fecks) treated Obama.
