Puerto Rico voted overwhelmingly today in favor of US statehood. It's up to Congress to grant the request. Let's see how a GOP congress reacts to this...

Apparently it was only a 20 something % turn out due to boycotting so won't go to congress.

It' not just here, but still in many other countries...the constitution is considered one step down from the Bible or Quran or Gita. It was a set of rules written by men who lived in a age vastly different from what we live now. Changing the constitution should not be such a hassle....when the need for change is such bleeding obvious.

Maybe, not sure what countries you are referring to but in Europe the constitution is a result of the enlightment period and is strictly a secular matter. Normally they would not mention god at all, aside from maybe a short sentence in the preamble to satisfy the prevalent religious community. I'd guess that most of these countries also grant the right to religious freedom which isn't exactly something you'd find in the Bible or any other 'holy' book for that matter.

I honestly think that the US constitution wouldn't have half the obsessive protection it has today if it didn't contain the second amendment. There's such a resistance to make any changes because it could set a precedent and make it easier to change the 2A.

It's kind of ironic really when you consider what an "amendment" actually is.

Ever so happily reunited...

I have a feeling she just can't wait for the time to come when he finally kicks the bucket and she can go back to a normal obscenely rich life.

District of Columbia, Maryland to sue Trump alleging breach of constitutional oath
The lawsuit would be the first of its kind brought by government entities and centers on the fact that Trump chose to retain ownership of his company when he became president

Could this become interesting?

Yes in my opinion for this paragraph:
If a federal judge allows the case to proceed, Racine and Frosh say, one of the first steps would be to demand through the discovery process copies of Trump’s personal tax returns to gauge the extent of his foreign business dealings. That fight would most likely end up before the Supreme Court, the two said, with Trump’s attorneys having to defend why the returns should remain private.

And surely emoulments breach here
The Embassy of Kuwait held an event at the hotel after initially booking at the Four Seasons. Saudi Arabia, the destination of Trump’s first trip abroad, also booked rooms at the hotel through an intermediary on more than one occasion since Trump’s inauguration. In April, the ambassador of Georgia stayed at the hotel and tweeted his compliments. Trump himself has appeared at the hotel and greeted guests repeatedly since becoming president.
The suit will allege that Trump has taken favors from the U.S. government. It will argue that the U.S. General Services Administration wrongly allowed Trump’s company to continue to lease the Old Post Office building, where Trump built his D.C. hotel, even though a clause in the contract said no elected official could remain on the lease.

The GSA initially said Trump would have to fully divest from the hotel after the election. But after Trump proposed increasing GSA’s budget, the agency issued a letter saying Trump was in full compliance with the lease.

I cant believe the americans bought the idea that a literal concrete block wall can deter immigrant.

This is not 500bc when the chinese built the great wall.

It's like the stupid pacific rim movie, building a wall to stop a kaiju... Who can jump.

This is interesting.

Guy with major IC connections goes on a 100+ tweet mega-rant, and reveals a lot of fascinating things.

The value of the Great Wall was ... questionable at best as well.

I think maybe an adult privy to the sort of information he is claiming to be privy to should perhaps try to avoid coming across like an over-caffeinated 15 year old boy. I'd find it a lot easier to take it seriously if he cut out the patriotic blathering.

Yeah, but it is America. ;)

Tbf its strategic significance was always a first line of defense/outpost rather than THE defense of Chinese dynasties against northern tribes.

Of course, count on the Americans to muddle its historic functions.

Oh, I know that. But even then it didn't really work because distances were just to huge.

Yeap. Also, it was built over centuries and the by different kingdoms long before the Qin dynasty finished connecting all those parts over 20 years. Good luck hammering out anything near that within a few years.

Wow!

Nice going @Zlaatan, that was a decent rant.

Don't try to argue or reason with Trumpsters. It's pointless, you will never hear what you want to hear and it will never make sense. If they are intelligent enough to be supporting Trump then they should know better, but they can't defend the indefensible and many are way too stubborn, arrogant or proud to admit making a mistake. Take those away and it just leaves those who truly don't give a shit or like @Carolina Red has said, it's like supporting United to them, they will never change.

Don't be mad or upset, you did the decent and honourable thing of reaching out and trying, so don't be upset that you tried.

:

Ignorance is the worst kind of ailment. At some point you just have to give up reasoning with those that simply cannot be reasoned with.

Yea you guys are right. It's just so frustrating to not even be able to get someone to sit back and just think for 2sec, let alone actually listen to what someone else has to say. One guy even bashed me for giving my opinion, and I mean that literally. He said that I presented nothing but blahblah, opinions and blahblah... :wenger: It's almost like they are extremly stupid.

I'll arrive to the US on Wedensday, I'm a green card holder, I'm a bit worried that they might cause me problems in the airport as I'm entering, is there anything new on that? Should I be worried?

Which airport are you flying to? Hopefully some blue state. I work for a reasonably big software concern and we monitor any rejections from airport closely. We haven't had any in the last month. Remember, this is for candidates flying from India and not any of the banned countries. But it is an indicator on how laws are interpreted and enforced at airport. Things look to have stabilized.

For proposed travel ban countries, I haven't seen any flags in the immigration forums that we normally check but I think as a precaution, do basic stuff like no beard, no smartphones, clean up twitter/facebook, be ready to share passwords, be polite and courteous. Don't argue if things don't go your way. Many have suggested the CBP official you end up with for your immigration interview determines a lot. Some are sympathetic and some are Trump supporters, so hopefully, you'll go to the queue of a good 'un.

EDIT : Just saw you have a green card, so things should be much easier for you. Either way, I'll try and do the basic stuff mentioned if I Were you

I'm going to San Francisco for a summer school in August. How much can they legally demand from me in terms of social media passwords etc.?
