These appoinments, Ivanka in on a meeting with a foreign leader... the nightmare doesn't get any better does it?

So, we no longer have the Voting Rights Act and a man who thinks civils rights were forced down people's throats potentially getting ready to run the Department of Justice.

Usually whether the candidate I wanted to win the election wins or not, I still called the winner by the title President. I find myself having more and more difficulty as each day goes buy putting the words President and Trump together.

He'll be what most thought (well once people finally started to accept he might actually win :lol:) - all over the shop. On some issues, he'll be quite liberal, on others...he's going to be a nutcase.

He might not be a closet democrat, but he sure as hell isn't a principled conservative/republican
 
Sessions is probably the most worrying one so far. Really dangerous time.

Thought about this yesterday... not sure I can do it. It sucks, and its the sort of childish stuff the GOP fanatics would do to a Dem. But this one is so, so below the office.

That's currently my bear case for this administration, that no one talk about. Everyone is talking about tax cuts, infrastructure, immigration, trade, etc. But what is this bunch of hotheads going to do the first time something goes against them? Going to commit 1/3 or more of US ground forces to some Iraq mk.2 adventure?

Nah, that's BS to be frank. She gets attention because being a vile controversial piece of shit gets you attention.

I'd argue there are so many men who out do her and Hopkins and don't get the attention for it. A lot less women.

Yep. His core views are still Democratic, as are those of Ivanka and Jared Kushner, who is a long time supporter of Corey Booker.

Who he takes advice from is another matter. I'm getting the impression he is filling his cabinet with a bizarre group of conflicting personalities who couldn't one day plot to undermine him.

I mean, if we assume it isn't a clever attempt to play politics, which I can't say I find as believable as you.

He seems to be putting personalities in place based on loyalty - Flynn and Sessions were with him all the way during the campaign. Pompeo and Romney are obviously odd choices in that regard, but the sense I get is he is filling the cabinet up with a motley crew of individuals who are not allied to anyone among themselves, but rather to Trump.

This is going to be forever the illusion of people while anti-establishment is one of the main feelings driving votes. Either you recruit the establishment to run government with you, or they will simply block most of what you attempt (this would be more of a Sanders scenario)

Exactly. I kind of used to have these hothead thoughts myself... too much Clancy read as a teenager. I'd like to think that as I matured I gained a greater appreciation for strategy, that you don't react to your opponent the way he wants you to, that you keep your long-term / big goals at the top of your list, don't let smaller stuff take over. I find it a bit ridiculous when a Giuliani gets up there and says the main priority of US Foreign Policy should be terrorism. China and Russia probably love hearing that.

I think that assumes 'normality' (as in what we've seen in recent times) in US politics. I'm not sure the rules are the same now.
