The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Someone get Cenk a MAGA hat asap.....

Was the speech really all that?

As Cenk says here, and many of us in here said also, only because Trump has set such a low bar previously AND, because he actually reined it in a bit and didn't go off on rants against the media or the insanity about being the biggest win of all times etc. It was basically his inauguration speech polished up a little more, but it was still full of shitloads of lies, falsehoods, misleading statements and hyperbole. It was also totally devoid of substance regarding how anything he said he was going to do would actually be done. No facts, figures or explanations of how he would raise the money for anything etc, so when you look at it like that, it wasn't very good at all, but because he's set the bar so low previously.................

Trump to Congress FACT checked.

Trump really seems to have got reporters doing their jobs properly again which is a nice positive to come from this farce. Journalists reporting and investigating and fact checking too, so Trump should at least be proud that he has motivated the press to start actually investigating and reporting again rather than just chasing celebrities around all the time.

It's a typical, boring and traditionally crafted speech. That's not Trump in that speech.

Of course it wasn't a trump speech, that is all bannon.

VOICE already exists, its on Brietbart - crimes that immigrants carry out.

Bannon did that too.

Of course, so did the Nazis.

Further demonization of 'the other'. Its straight from the fascist playbook. When cuts to ACA and tax credits hit, they will need a scapegoat. This is simply creating one.

It was a good speech for Trump, but the positive reaction he gets from this will be short lived and will be erased from peoples minds, once the next set of controversy hits this administration.

It is a true indication of how bad this situation is that a speech riddled with inaccuracies, unsubstantiated boasts and very little actual detail (like a flimsy election manifesto) is seen as a good speech. The President of the United States at no point had a tantrum or attempted to undermine the first amendment and that's an improvement.

Yet, over 68% have a positive or very positive view on his speech! Amazing how many gullible people are out there. The VOICE idea didnt even raise any alarm bells?!!

You could probably pick holes in any president speech depending on your views

I think he is finally starting to settle down

Settle down into slightly less hysterical hyperbole and meaningless sloganeering perhaps?

Sombre mood in here today :D It looks like Trump passed a presidential test at last, albeit a bare pass. I think, of course, we'd like this to be the way it's going to continue, but it's not likely to last. That VOICE thing alone is enough to send shivers down my spine.

Apart from that, I'm disappointed because I was hoping for solid plans - that's what my Italian student had said he was expecting. Still so light on actual detail, that can't last forever.

I want people to watch Obama give his 1st address to a joint session of congress - compare and contrast and of course look for similarities in theme and rhetoric with Trump. Also note the difference in substance (look out for the details - actual figures)

And while this is a bit harsh...look at it in hindsight in terms of the stated goals and where we are 9 years down the line. How much of what he discussed/touted came true and how much was complete bullshit.

as others have said...

He temporarily changed his tone but not his tune.
Which is dangerous. If he can maintain this and at least appear competent, then that's where the real trouble starts. To paraphrase Frankie Boyle, competent Nazis are the scary ones.

How different might that have been had congress not blocked him every step of the way?

Any idea why?

Apparently it was reported that the Iraqi government will retaliate and ban all americans civilians including private contractors and maybe troops. 8,000 private contractors working there now.

Its all about the benjamins.
