The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

the whole of MAGA-Twitter is now getting Hunter Biden trending in response to the trump tax story. Pretty weak comeback .

I've already seen a Washington Examiner "reporter" talking about how Trump's tax bill was on average $1m over the last 20 years. The other line is going to be that there's no criminal wrongdoing, which isn't necessarily true.

Democrats need to hammer the 10 years of $0 and last two of $750 from now until November 3rd. Tie it to his tax cut that was intended to benefit him too. Throw on the fact that he's forced over $1m in taxpayer dollars into his own bank account and expended millions in taxpayer funds to defend his personal interests, yet pays no taxes.

Someone online suggested Biden should every response in the debate with ‘North Korea - well, before I get to that, the guy who slices the meat at my deli paid more in taxes than my opponent...’

Trumps only gonna say something about corrupt hunter or peado Joe every question but im not sure its a great strategy to overuse it

If you get into a pissing contest with trump you end up with 2 old blokes covered in piss... one mortified that he has reverted to the level of a toddler... the other with a huge grin (and probably an erection) wishing it was Russian hooker piss

That’s the political version of playing chess with a pigeon.

The sad part is you wouldn't even get a job as a bank teller with his credit history. Yet, he's president.

70k for hair styling claimed as business expenses, christ
Welcome to their world, he'll have claimed all his clothes, meals out, holidays, any electrical devices or subscription services even gifts to other people as an expense. Scary thing is its normal practice. I've worked with a few minor online celebs in their fields and their accountants do exactly the same.

Could this be the scandal that actually moves some voters? Or will it be the usual case of his supporters deflecting? I mean, if you had not already come to the conclusion that he is a fraud and a terrible business man before this, I suspect this will not change anything. The evidence was already there with Trump University, all his bankruptcies etc.

Hopefully, it will keep the pressure on him and provide some ammunition for the upcoming debates. But his supporters can always shout 'Fake news' and ignore it.

Tax evasion is only a crime when you’re poor. When you’re rich it’s considered being an intelligent businessperson and protecting what’s yours.
Tax evasion is always illegal (you are evading due taxes)
Tax avoidance is legal as you utilise the tax code to minimise taxes (you are avoiding taxes being due)

Just look at those replies. "He doesn't take a salary, so claiming 70k in tax deductions for hair styling is fine...checkmate libs" and then it's just a bunch of catty trump woman saying she looks like trash/she's hateful.

So when is that asteroid due again?

You may like this article from a debate coach on what strategy Blden should use and what he should avoid. Some of it is more or less along the lines of what you're saying. Interesting read I thought : https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cn...ons/debate-advice-for-biden-graham/index.html

Can Biden do this though? Not so sure. He might be better off loading up on zingers like the urine one and practicing them into the ground so he doesn't mess them up.

I'd say he's much more likely to just make all the mistakes this guy identified.

Without having looked into it at all, could there be an argument that Trump is paying a small amount of income tax because he was not actually paid a salary in that period? If his earnings come from owning companies and other assets, shouldn't he be paying capital gains tax and not income tax on that?

Again, I know nothing about the US tax system or Trump's activities in that period. Just a thought.

I think that could be the case yeah.

Tax avoidance is just as bad as tax evasion. Ethically they’re the same thing, you’re using whatever means you can to avoid paying your dues to society. The only difference is one of them is legal. Just because something is legal doesn’t mean it’s correct.

So the president of the US avoids taxes, assaults women, lies to his citizens, sends the army against his own people.

Grey areas. In extreme cases it could be daylight robbery (70k haircut) but a car purchase so that you can work as delivery man (30k car) is a valid tax deductible.

So it's really case by case with everything else in the middle

$70k on haircuts?! I dread to think what footballers spend.

Well sure, I agree there are exceptions. However, the tax avoidance that people like Trump, Messi etc are part don't fall into any sort of grey area for me.

The only way people stopped following in cultesque Charles Manson was when he eventually got sent to Prison but even then become some sort of Messiah and that's probably going to happen to Trump, he'll fall for the sake of the GOP eventually but more than likely be the catalyst for a civil war.

Trump's tax returns won't do much with his supporters, they will vote for him no matter what, it will turn the tide from independent voters who are normal tax paying citizens and if you wanna piss off an American, then taxes are one way to go.

As far as I know, in the US capital gains are treated as a part of income for tax purposes. The NYT report is therefore including those figures.

Salaries are also subject to income tax of course, but are a particular subset referred to as payroll taxes.

He's a con man lads.
