You had a few Germans come to this thread and say you are talking fecking shite, and you were. It seems you don't "do your research".
How do you know I yelled? I'm Irish, using profanities is my culture, so I will politely say you don't know what you are fecking talking about.

So if a few randoms disagree with me that makes them right? Mate, this is a football forum, people are winging it at best.

Majority consensus means nothing.

he came from outside the politics and beat every republican that opposed to him
then he beat Hillary when everyone was sure he didnt have a chance
he has done everything he must do to keep his power
he is very smart
He didn't come from outside, he was on Twitter and fox every day complaining about Obama being a foreigner.
He was also within the margin of error on nearly all the polls for 6 months before the election. The Comey press conference a week out from the election was the nail in her coffin.
He is doing everything he can to stay in power by suggesting we cancel the election calling it a fraud unless he wins and telling his rabid idiot supporters to go to the polls and intimidate voters.
I don't think you have paid much attention to politics here because you are woefully I formed based on some if you opinions.

They aren't disagreeing with you, they are telling you how it is, being German and living in Germany. Please post the articles where you got your "opinion".

ok
if he didnt come from outside, tell me what was he doing in the republican party before announcing his candidacy? was he a senator? a gobernor? did he even worked at any public office?
that's what i call coming from the outside
and really, if you want to argue with me, you just need to stop being so derogative, i'm just stating an opinion, you dont like it? say it, i don't mind, but is really annoying and exhausting trying to argue with someone this way

The art of trash talking.

Getting your opposition to react emotionally makes them predictable. If they think you’re stupid, even better.

What if I was German, too? Would that give me more credibility?
I know what you mean. I'm not from Ireland but I have it on good authority that every Irish village has one guy who sells pigs and ladders. Every single one of them is called Dougall and they all have sheep dogs that help them spell and count numbers because, as we all know, Irish schools only teach kids how to build walls. And no rhetorical evidence will prove me wrong.

Man, the guy can't even read graphs his staff printed out for him.

I guess it depends on how you define smartness. He's good at manipulating uneducated people, a wicked turn on emotional intelligence if you like, but his logical reasoning and cognitive capabilities seem really off. That's also what the leaks and insider reveal stories suggest.

Mate, when he talks and he writes, he is not doing it for you, he is not trying to reach you or the likes of you
he knows who he is talking to and what he has to say in order to get their vote
in politics, that's the most important thing to do, when is all about winning and staying in power

here in argentina we had a few presidents that will say the most outrageous things, things that were so clearly false and stupid it was unbelievable, but as i said before, they weren't aimed at me, the president didn't care about my outrage or if it was evidently false, he was talking to the people that wanted to listen exactly what he was saying

compare him with Sanders, who the other day said "let the boston bomber vote"
or the democratic female senator who said "we should pay sex change operations for the inmates"

who do you think is politically smarter?

I used to fear that he was some sort of genius, or at the least an idiot savant. However, if you do any research on his past you will find that he is neither of those things. At his best he was a belligerent and bigoted asshat who failed upwards. Now he is all that with a lot less upwards and a lot more senility.

I guess I can see how people on the outside looking in don't see how bad it is. It's kinda like one of those fancy dog poop bags that looks like a Scrooge McDuck money bag. From the outside it looks fun and cute, but from the inside it is full of shit and stink.

I call them idiots, if I was mocking I would be laughing at them but I'm not. Ask any trump supporter today who's foundation is above board, trump's or Clinton's and see which answer you get. A constructive conversation with people like that is pointless. This thread highlights that fact brilliantly.
Yeah, Trumpers are another story, but luckily I don't know any. The alt-right are 100% idiots without exception. Being economically on the right makes you a cheap cnut in my book, but not necesarrily an idiot.

He obviously says things to specifically appeal to his followers, no doubt. That's what I mean with his wicked emotional intelligence - he intuitively know what to say in order to convince them. But there are incidents in which you just see that he's not the brightest candle on the cake. Take the interview with Jonathan Swan for example:

That's not playacting. He doesn't give the impression he wants his followers to have of him. He's just overstrained, nervous and comes across as weak in that interview. From my perspective, he has no interest whatsoever to appear like that. The picture he wants to paint of himself is that of a strong and determined leader, one that knows things better than the leftist media. Sure, such an interview won't harm him too much since most of his followers won't care too much but he also shouldn't allow himself too many of those blunders.

yes, i can see that
but, politically, he really knows what to do
of course, someone is scripting him, but he decided who to follow and is working for him

I don't think you are necessarily wrong. The problem with this strategy is that his target audience is shrinking. I saw a presentation where it was mentioned that in 2020 the percentage of babies born in the US that are white will no longer be the majority, and that by 2045ish there will be no dominant racial/ethnic group in the US. To keep relevant the Republicans have 2 choices, they can adjust their platform to reach new members or they can double down and achieve wins by suppressing the power of their opponents. They are obviously going down the second route this year and that is frightening.

We will most likely not reach the levels you mentioned you grew up in, and hopefully we never will. But to blow off the potential of such a thing is dangerous. This country is a giant reservoir of anger and inequality that has never been emptied. Instead we just keep patching the dam and hoping it holds. Trump will blow up that damn if it keeps him in office, and when he does it will be vulnerable and disenfranchised that are crushed by the wave.

Most people think of Trump as a one man show, a loose cannon stumbling through his presidency. I find that hard to believe. There is way too much at stake to not have smart people pull the strings in the background.

You don’t just gain power and then waste it. Trump is just the wrecking ball of a machine far bigger than himself.

all you say is true
I also think that Trump doesn't care about the Republicans, he just wants to win the next election
and he is betting that his base is big enough to win again
the thing is, and i really believe it, he doesnt count that many democrats that didnt vote in 2016 because they thought it wasnt needed cause Hillary was going to win confortably, will do it this time
i think he is going to be the first president -after Bush Senior- to not be reelected
Of course he might have a chance on staying in office if he loses for a few votes, because he will have the SC to back him up, like they did with Bush the idiot,
but being an electoral college that decides, if he loses in a lot of states, he wont stand a chance
and i really think that he wont win in any of the swing states

I hope you are right, but I am absolutely sure that there will be both local and federal voter suppression. If this was a fair contest he would stand almost no chance, but I was in the south in 2016 and 2018 and saw what happened, especially in Georgia. Now I am in Wisconsin and it is happening here too. With every year the chance of a legitimate win gets farther and farther in the past for the republicans, so I think we can expect this to continue until the dems are both in power and also have the balls to enact real voting reform. I will not be holding my breath.

that's scary

Just out of curiosity do you / have you ever lived in Germany? Legit question: what formed an ill informed image of the country that is even further from AfD talking points

Can you remember the last time you've read anything positive about Trump in your preferred mainstream media source?
Me neither.

Without the existence of strong bias, this is a statistical impossibility. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Are you still convinced you are being served the truth and nothing but the truth?

Finding truth, no matter where you look, is almost impossible in 2020.
I'm with @onenilagainstthearsenal: some arguments rather than claims would be nice. So, what achievements of Trump's do you think have not been covered properly in mainstream media?

Using potatoes if the bricks are sold out again?
He just wants to prove you’re not a witch.

(Pro tip: whatever you do, don’t float!)

Here's what I'll say for now....Trump has always known how to get people's attention, then hold their attention, and manipulate their attention. It's the entertainment business. It's the cameras, it's the media (Fox/OAN), it's the personalities, it's staged, etc. Then when you surround yourself with yes men and yes women who are so blind and do whatever it takes to keep themselves in a job or give themselves a shot at political/public relevancy...it's chaotic and a shithouse. Oh and when so many of the people to pander to and position yourself to are uneducated, ignorant, and aren't privy to diversity....you have too many people misinformed and intolerable of objectivity. It's truly frightening how divided the country is and the lack of real values, morals, and practice of them is appalling.

Merkel has an 88% approval rating according to state television surveys. Those are Honecker / Lukashenko numbers, not anything based in reality. Mainstream media are generally toeing the government line. Critical, independent journalism is scarce. This reminds me of the late 80's in East Germany. Opposing views are simply positioned as 'right wing' or 'anti-semitic' conspiracies, playing perfectly into the perpetual German post WW2 guilt, the stick to squash any notion of national pride and identity forever.

Very weird perception of reality. Here are the poll numbers from polling institute INSA, an institute with close ties to the AfD (their executive director worked directly for the AfD): https://dnews24.de/2020/07/20/insa-umfrage-wer-sind-die-beliebtesten-politiker/

Merkel is in the top 6 politicians of all voters across all parties bar AfD voters, particularly popular among CDU/CSU (#2) and Green party (#3), both parties alone making up about 55 % of the electorate right now.

Without going into any other points you made in this thread I would really like for you to explain your way out of this, how, in fact, Merkel is supposedly not that popular at all.

democrats are bland
even they admit that they always go to a gun fight with a rolled news paper

Their problem isn't lack of meanness. It's a lack of ideas, direction and a convincing leader. They should have used these last 4 years to rejuvinate the party but instead they are still living in the Obama days and are hoping to drag themselves across the finish line with a senile candidate on the strength of nostalgia.

I would have gone with Tulsi. Woman of color, veteran, moderate voter appeal.

Recent regional election results tell you everything you need to know.

Trump isn't smart by any metric, but he has 2 talents that he exploited throughout his life :
1) He knows how to tell people what they want to hear
2) He'll exploit any kind of high ground he has over someone without any second thought when it benefits him, regardless of the consequences

Basically, he's just a lying bully.

And of course he's surrounded by smart people, we all know what happened with Cambridge Anaiytica He was lucky enough his message resonated with a huge part of the country at a specific time of distrust towards establishment. Other than that, he's a moron that you couldn't have a 2mn interesting conversation with. I don't bite for a split the second the arguments saying "he's a very smart person pretending to be stupid to sound like a regular person". He's just dumb as a brick.

Are you going to answer my question? Were you lying about the mainstream media and Trump or uninformed?

if you are right that he is dumb as a brick, then being the president of the most powerful nation ever is a piece of cake. And i don't think that's the case.
