well, in my book, dictators shut the press and only allows official news to be released, they shut the congress and put five guys to dictate the laws they require, they incarcerate opponents, they forbid books, movies, music

and that with the help of an army

Trump might be a bully, might be a narcisist, might want everyone to love him, but he is far from any of those actions
You're sort of proving our point. Trump has threatened to shut down social media platforms and news outlets already (he can't, hence not doing so). Incarcerate opponents? Wasn't his slogan "lock her up!"? Help of an army? Well he's talking about militia "policing" voting booths. Doesn't really lend credence to the argument that he is not a borderline dictator.

The political world isn't binary. It's not that Trump is either a thing or not that thing. There are shades of grey in which the current socio-political system and its actors in the US operate, and there are alarming trends that people are rightly calling out in relation to Trump.

Less bad American leaders than Trump have "banned" songs though. Just look at what happened after 9/11. It's not foreign to Americans to ban stuff in the name of patriotism, so if you speak in those terms, you can get away with a lot of stuff.

Get Out
Is a fantastic movie

when i was 12 Argentina's democratic goverment was overthrown by a military coup.
They forbade books, films, popular songs
they took people from the streets, houses and universities, to torture them and after they spilled their guts, put them on helicopters to throw them, drugged, to the river where they would die
victims ranged from 16 years old -kids whos only crime was to ask for a special bus fare for schoolers- to 80

but trump and johnson are dictators

cry me a river
Never gathered that you were that old.

What? None of what you said has any relevance to what's being discussed. As I said, things aren't binary.

Saying "He's not a fascist because he's stopped by other people from doing the fascist things he wants to do" doesn't really help ones case when trying to prove that someone isn't trying to do fascist things.

Right. It's not like the Nazis only became Nazis once they were in power with the ability to enact their agenda without opposition. They were still Nazis when they were just spreading propaganda about the globalist conspiracy against their country and screaming about the lying press. Trump isn't a Nazi, but there's no doubt in my mind he'd be authoritarian if he could. He idolizes dictators, after all.

He's called himself a Nazi though.

Don't forget about 'joking' about how he deserves a third term, encouraging people to become 'poll watchers' and the increasingly fascist rhetoric (the comment about good genes in Minnesota being a recent example).

Trump is no dictator, but he clearly wants to be - and there is a significant share of population that are so entrenched in their position that they wouldn't blink if it happened.

It's so ironic. This raging white class segment of America were living in hate talk radio/Fox news fear of Obama doing away with the GE and anointing himself king in 2016 and yet they're totally fine if it's their guy. Fecking madness.

Not really. He acts like a Nazi, he calls himself one, it's that simple. Should he call himself neo-Nazi to make it more definitive?
He calls himself a nationalist which means he's called himself a Nazi? He's certainly doesn't act like one, no matter his faults (which they're many) You have severely diluted Nazism.

Perhaps following this line of thought you think Jeremy Corbyn/Sanders are Nazi's because they called themselves socialist, ie National Socialist party? Jeez their greedy with the political spectrum !

He's clearly getting more articulated and sophisticated with his tweets. I'm thinking he might actually not be an insane white-power-Bill lying thieving narcissist proto-fascist after all and could nail four more years in November.

That sentence makes no sense whatsoever. The dictators like Putin can ask his subordinates(including law enforcement) to do whatever he wants whereas there's no way Trump can ask US army personnel to lock biden up or poison him. If he does something nefarious than there is a chance that he might get caught and be prosecuted and he's not willing to risk it. Doesn't mean he wouldn't do those things if he was given the powers other dictators have and his behaviour shows that he longs for that power.
