Are you starting to understand now why your initial comment was, to say the least, unreasonable?

It was never intended to imply every Amercian it was meant towards all the idiots out protesting against quarantine and these courts opening up states against the wishes of the people who govern them .
It's like me saying I hate Liverpool fans . I don't hate them all just lots of them

I’m sure you can understand why:

I honestly have never seen a tweet that Sums up a man and a nation as much as that dumb ass shit.
The rest of the world should ban travel to and from the USA .
Let them stay in their shit country and die like they want to

Doesn’t appear to be making any such distinctions.

It’s always infuriating to hear republicans defend the EC.

“Mob rule is bad”
“Nobody will pay attention to rural areas”
“Only populated states will matter”

A number of them in my FB feed during the 2016 CE were against the EC, citing popularity and illegal voting would see the Dem candidate win. They went quiet after the EC gave the GOP candidate the victory.

UK TV currently showing the review of the 91/92 season.

Just showed the draw for the League Cup which was from NY. I'd forgotten they got Donald Trump to do the draw.

If you'd said then "that guy will be President in 25 years", people would've laughed at you?

No need to put a question mark at the end of the last sentence. It's a statement of fact and not a question.

Nope. Trump, or a similar person, becoming U.S. President was absolutely inevitable.

This isn't me claiming that I could've predicted it though; even relatively recently, I thought he'd lose the election by a mile.

I remember watch videos on YouTube of why they voted Trump as President, majority said he'll make a good impact on US economy. Well, I supposed if it's the case then the citizen should be okay with Trump sacrificing the health & life of people for the sake of economy. (Joking on this one)

This covid 19 showed he's not good enough to be president. The way how he handled the situation and also the way how he handled the interview/press. So far what I see from Trump is that he's blaming China for anything, running away from his responsibility for any action that he could have done before to reduce the damage on his country & people.

And the latest video I watched about him talking about "testing", he made himself looks like a stupid person in that video.

Wasn’t sure whether to put this in the Coronavirus thread or here but people saying that all Americans deserve what they get because of Trump is pretty abominable. This is a post from a member of another forum I frequent and to lump them all in the same basket is unfair.

This itself is not a political post... but it is me panicking as the result of a political action. I am hoping to tread lightly so as to make a point without the thread being closed, and I am hoping that commenters heed as well.

Because I really need to vent.

As many of you know, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the Shelter in Place, and with no back up plan from the Governor or the State Senate or the Assembly, any sheltering action is at the hands of local municipalities. That's about the end of my political discussion... just setting the scene.

My problem is with a large percentage of my friends (a vast majority who are on Facebook) who are acting like they have never been out of the house, and are doubling down by acting like this...

Of course, that elicited dozens and dozens of comments in the "Yeah! Right on!" realm.

Well that's all well and good, except that this 27 year old guy almost died of COVID-19, and was featured regularly on all four local station's newscasts during his illness and after his release. Of all people that you'd think would have concern for your fellow man, it would be him. Instead, he effectively calls those people who are concerned about what is going on in Wisconsin cowards, and includes it as a political comment.

I've coined the phrase "Shelter Shaming". If one is uncomfortable going out because of concern about the transmission of the virus, that person is now apparently subject to "Shelter Shaming"... at least in Wisconsin.

Here's where I am so irate... If my wife contracts COVID-19, I give her a 40% survival rate. She has asthma, is obese, has pulmonary hypertension, chronic pneumonia and - oh by the way - just came home from the hospital after they found a blood clot in her lung (very possibly because she had surgery on March 11, the day before Wisconsin's Shelter in Place began). She had very little follow up and no physical therapy, and being concerned about catching the virus, hasn't really gotten any exercise outside. My wonderful wife is a walking definition of someone susceptible to the virus.

This is a long-winded prelude to the question.... "What the hell happened in society?"

I can understand random internet trolls doing random internet troll things....and frankly this forum provides anonymity, too. But for the most part, the people in my Facebook world use their real names, post real photos of themselves, bowl with me, travel on vacation with me, and are generally involved in my life in one way or another. And this morning and afternoon, I watched them one-by-one "like" this guy's post and comment to the room about how not-serious the virus is and "everyone has to live his life". How can I look these people in the eye now?

As I recount this, I sit here, stunned and not able to better relate what I want to say. All I've got is... "How can people be like that to one another?" And how can we right the ship?

Obamagate is stupid even for a conspiracy theory. The Kubrick-filmed moon landing people have a more compelling case.

I think his only crime is he insulted Trump one time. I'm sure some Trump supporters have another reason. I won't say what it is but let's just say some things in life really are in black and white.

“Don’t forget, we have more cases than anybody in the world. But why? We do more testing,” Trump said, before completely botching the public health argument for how and why countries test to find out who has the virus, which does involve avoiding testing for fear it will discover too many positive patients. “When you test, you have a case. When you test, you find something is wrong with people. If we didn’t do any testing we would have very few cases.”

“They don’t want to write that,” Trump then claimed, alluding to the media, before matter-of-factly adding: “It’s just common sense.”

I'm done. i can no longer keep listening to this verbal diarrhea

And Strawbridge was great I suppose?
Chill out mate, there doesn’t need to be an argument. That is (a) whataboutery and (b) putting words in my mouth. I didn’t say anyone was great. I was just asking which case’s C-Span feedback you heard...

Letters came in with a stronger legal position but it was a really weak performance from him. Even more so considering the House won every argument in the lower courts (unless I’m forgetting something!) he did a bad job explaining what the limits of his position were. Couldn’t answer questions at one point. Even Breyer didn’t seem too impressed.

So if you didn't get caught stealing money, its not a crime. Only a crime if you get caught. Thats his mindset.

Your analogy needs to be “It’s only a crime when it’s reported”.

He’s a special kind of stupid. But these quotes are another example of people picking the wrong thing to go after. He’s on solid ground with the statements. Wrong end of the telescope, but at least he’s found one end of it.

If his numbers are to be believed, they’ve tested 10m people and have 1.45m cases. Would be good to see a breakdown of that as if there’s lots of drive through elective testing in there, that’s one hell of an infected rate.

Well, in many states voter apathy is high because the Electoral College means that your vote basically doesn’t count. My state for instance... its electoral votes have gone to the Republican in every presidential election since 1980, and all but one since 1964.

Simialar to around 75% of parliamentary constituencies in the UK which have a strong Conservative or Labour majority. It needs a miracle for any seat like that to change so people don't bother.

Which is dumb of people, because just in the last election we saw seats change hands for the first time in about a century. If people bother than things change.

Yes it is but how many seats with very large majorities changed? We still have the likes of Jacob Rees Mogg and Mark Francois sitting nice and happy in safe seats without any chance they will lose. This applies to several MPs across the political spectrum. While you may get a few with a reasonable majority which may change, that is the exception rather than the norm.

I saw that a couple of years ago. If someone said that Jimmy Greaves could have saved the world by throttling a "tycoon" on live TV, would people have laughed too?

The main issue of the first past the post, winner take all system.

I was thinking at what point ,and how big, does this reported "dirty laundry" have to be to hit him and his fanbase hard.

It's water off a Ducks back for him and even more so for his supporters.

Depends if it included an NDA about him paying someone off to have an abortion for instance.

A nation that voted Trump in deserves everything it gets my friend . There ain't another nation on planet earth who would have that man anywhere near power .
Salvini, Orban, Bolsonaro, Duterte, BoJo and Baudet say hi.

Trump and his cnuts play on the ignorance and gullability of the masses. Some people simply got tricked by the empty promises. Means they're a bit daft, but hardly that they deserve to die.

Trump himself however, well, Im sure wishing death on dudes is frowned upon.

In a world which rarely fails to makes excuses for male misbehaviour towards women, his 'religious' supporters would doubtless claim that he's changed now, and is truly repentant.
