So while all the media is focusing on the DNC circus, Trump presented his budget bill for 2021.

Environmental Protection Agency: 26% budget reduction
State Department: 21% budget reduction
Health Department: 9% budget reduction
Education Department: 8% budget reduction

The military? budget increased.

Start buying the yellow vest containers!!

Post the same when someone else starts the 'But Clinton would be worse than Trump' nonsense

The Fox News gig is getting closer and closer

Gabbard's one of the silliest things in the quite competitively silly world of US politics.

You could make up anything about her politics and it would be no less believable than the things she actually says and does.

I don't entirely understand why anyone likes her. I don't think it's cause she's conventionally attractive. I've seen very little evidence that people want their politicians to be pretty. My best guess is people just like the word 'Tulsi'.

Self aggrandizement seems to be the name of her game.

She’s pretty conservative and paints herself as somewhat libertarian so she has the attention of right of Democrat party.

She’s also unusually and often bizarrely at odds with the Democrat narrative and agenda so she’s adored by Fox and anyone who wants to own the libs’ which naturally gets her a lot of artificial traffic.

What's with people who think they're left wing liking her?

That's a very disingenuous statement. I've seen countless reports, segments and articles written about this. Twitter is absolutely full of people kicking off about this, as it is full of people pointing out that Trump has given up on reducing the deficit and National Debt.

I don't think the trouble is it's not being reported enough, more that enough people don't actually give a shit or believe it. At the same time many are still celebrating and many are still reeling from the impeachment scandal and subsequent shit storm coming out of the White House. It really does appear that Trump has worn the country down to a point where some care, many don't or feel powerless to prevent it, many are sick of it all and the rest just blindly follow and celebrate anything he does.

What will happen when the cuts take effect and start to hurt many who support him is a different matter altogether.

And here comes more abuse of power and yet another disgusting act, but one that will be perfectly timed to distract from another scandal.

I just wish he would keep his nose out of other countries affairs. He can screw the USA as much as he likes. Now him and his imbecile Sec State are targeting Cuban doctors send to third world and developing countries. Doesn't he understand that these Cuban doctors are very good and do a very important job in the medical fields in these countries?

Congress sets budgets. The presidential budget is basically just a wishlist.

He’ll pardon Stone at some point inevitably. Probably the same day he wants to distract from Bolton.

"I wish we had someone on our side, Steve, as evil as you .. "

I was thinking about this earlier today, that politics has become very tribal, almost like football. When our player is dirty, tugging shirts and committing tactical fouls, getting away with all kinds of shithousery, we love it. When it's the other team, they are a disgrace to the game and deserve to be sent off.

It would be considered naive in today's politics to take a stand based on principal that is not in one's own or party's interest. Principals and ethics get thrown out the window, all that matters is 'winning' . It's not even about winning, but more about stickin' it to 'those twats'.

Kind of looks like the clip is meant to convey that dumb rude people can be pacified by wearing the hat? Or perhaps bullying the elderly is seen as tough in the US.

It's from Curb your enthusiasm and he has taken the clip completely out of context as Larry wears the cap and uses it to repel people he doesn't want to talk to. It's yet another classic self own by Trump.

It was a clip from TV show "Curb your Enthusiasm". They were making fun of the power of the MAGA hat.

Not just me then..

Though part of me suspects he knows this as well and is just doing it to continue the perpetual outrage of the sane and sensible over absolutely trivial things so they don't have time to ask him things like why he is cutting social security for old and disabled people.

This is just blatant corruption.

If you get away with obstruction of justice the logical thing is to continue to do it.

The worst of it is that this is setting precedents that subsequent presidents will use to justify even worse behaviour, if you can imagine it.

Basically, Trump is incinerating the last decent vestiges of American democracy, much to Russia's delight

If Democrats ever get past the voter suppression, election corruption and disinformation campaigns to win back all three branches, they need to be the polar opposite to what McConnell is doing and put all their weight behind tilting the balance back towards them by protecting elections then go nuclear on rooting out and protecting the institutions from corruption.

But they won’t. Pelosi will tell us once more how it’s more important to ‘heal’ and ‘bring America back together’ and all these corrupt, criminal bastards will walk free ready to do it all again once the midterms put them back in power.

Yup

In theory, it's very much in the interest of the Democrats to 'fix' the American democracy - because the democrats have the voters.

The only reason we're in this mess is because the Republicans have better used the eccentricities of the US political system to cling to minority rule with their fingernails.

In theory, if Republicans were forced to care about actually winning popular votes, their policies, attitudes and actions would completely change - because they'd be irrelevant if they did not.

Will the Dems ever have all 3 branches again? Possibly, but not hugely likely. The senate is massively rigged in the GOP favour.

My favourite stat on that front (courtesy of the BBC of all places): the 48 senators voting to remove Trump represent almost 20 million more voters than the 52 senators choosing to acquit him.

If the Dems could get into power AND fix the system, they'd force the GOP to fundamentally change.
