If his tax returns are so dodgy then why hasn't the IRS audited him in the past?

It really could be something as dumb as just him not really being a billionaire. He can be outrageously petty.
If anything that'll play into his hand because he can still claim he's a successful millionaire whilst also saying this proves he isn't part of the elite. We'll be expected to forget all the people who said he was an ideal candidate because he was a successful billionaire.
This reads a bit too much like buying into the Trump Masterplan idea. If it would play into his hand, he wouldn't have fought so hard to prevent it. It's not going to topple his Presidency or anything, but it definitely won't be good.

His core will, absolutely. But Trump still needs to convince more than just his core in 2020. He might win the election with 46% support, but not with 36%.

My guess is that his tax returns will show he paid little, to no, taxes. And maybe that his money is "held" overseas.

Regardless of how rich Trump actually is, he won’t want you to know the exact figure his tax returns state because that’s a figure he will have massively understated to avoid paying tax.
The thought of people knowing that figure will destroy him for two reasons:
1. He thinks he’s been smart by avoiding taxes, if it his supposed smart tricks comes back to bite him and he ends up with people laughing at him he won’t be able to stop himself letting everyone know how smart he had been and he is so much richer really....
...which would be point 2. If he admitted doctoring his tax returns he can charged with tax avoidance. Even if he claims that he himself can’t be, they can still go after his businesses to collect what’s owed because as president, officially he has divested so can’t claim his interest in them and use his official position to protect them.
