The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

The African-American vote is absolutely "a thing". It's taught in university political science classes for a reason.

Trump is trying to cut in some on the predicted 90+% vote share that Democrats get from the African-American population by harping on jobs numbers because while 90+% of African-Americans vote Democrat, only about 50% identify as liberal.

So you're not just all Americans first and foremost?

You have no idea.

Christ that was a grim wank!

This seems like a loaded question.

There is a lot of history that goes into the African-American vote being the way it is.

No it's not a loaded question. Isn't the nation supposed to be moving on from its past and moving away from compartmentalising sections of society?

I'm genuinely curious as to whether white, black, latino, asian etc. are defined as distinct groups within America or whether you are all primarily just American first. I just find it intriguing that presidential candidates target the black vote for example.

In order for a society not to be compartmentalised a certain level of equality would have to exist and persist. Given the American experience is and has always been greatly changed by the colour of ones skin it's no surprise that these differences are expressed through the nation's politics. Black people have specific grievances that white folk don't share.

I’ve not studied a single period in US history where the “American first” idea has actually existed.

We’ve always been divided by things like ethnicity, religion, economic class, etc.

The “melting pot” is a myth. We’re a chopped salad.

That's just fecking grim.

Yalls history isn't any different.
Who gives a feck about history? We're not perfect but we've come a long way. We were doing fine until the Brexit debacle. I'm not even going to bother comparing UK to the US because there really isn't any comparison and this ain't the thread for it.

1) "We were doing fine before Brexit" -> that's history

2) No you weren't

3) You're still no different now

4) I could have posted this and it would have still been correct...

I just don't want you fooling yourself.

B,b,b,b,b,b,b,b,b, but Trump isn't racist!

He will pivot any day.

A guy at the bar was trying to tell me and the bartenders that Trump said “our ports” and not “airports” a few days after he gave his 4th of July speech.

We weren’t having it.

It doesn't matter, he still said the Army watched and protected the skies.

The guy's claims really fell apart when we pulled up the video and he says "the airports". We just looked at him... "so you're trying to say that he said 'the our ports'? Is that what you want us to think?"

I would hazard a guess that the guy then went on to either say

a) he meant to say our ports

Or

b) it doesn't matter... He is making America great again or something like that.

It was basically a "well, anybody can make a mistake".

It was really funny seeing him with his foot in his mouth considering he told one of the bartenders something along the lines of "oh don't be fecking ignorant about it. You know he didn't say that. You're just being manipulated."

Why do Americans analyse everything by demographic? Is the 'black', 'hispanic' etc. vote really a thing?? Is racism so entrenched in their society that they have to think of special policies that will just appeal to minority groups and garner their vote.

Uh...yes.

Not a single comment from any Repubican in Congress. Feck me!
Most who vocally opposed him are gone (Flake) and those who had soft opposition have all turned face and joined him due to coming elections (Graham, McConnell). So yeah, GOP has collectively traded their backbone to lick Trump's boots. Their silence is no surprise. I'm just surprised many haven't come out in support of that travesty.

I agree the two are slightly different. Saying that, May is a racist as well.

I'm sorry but the Dems are being completely set up again and falling for it. For key evidence watch the little interview.. If you wanna call it that on CNN between Alisyn Camerota and the new acting USCIS director Cuccinelli. The man refuses to condemn the Trump tweets, and throws Congress under the bus for now being to blame for the conditions by complaining and not doing anything to help. Coulda seen that spiel coming from a mile away. To his credit though he did say this shouldn't be a partisan issue as he said the Obama administration tried to fix immigration too and that he thinks the Senate with Graham and Durbin seems to working together on things. But still.. Pelosi is yet again allowing the house to be played like a fiddle.

Its a win win for Trump and the Republicans.
Immigration will be the Number one issue the Republicans will run on.

All the problems will be directed to' immigrants of the wrong ethnicity'

All the 'Trump is a racist' condemnations will do nothing against his numbers. In fact this will just gin up his voters.

Trump knows the Democrats playbook inside out being a big donor for them in the past.

Looking at Trumps tweets he can turn round and say that he tweeted then 'come back and show us how it is done'
