The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Cant believe all the networks are covering this. They're complicit, like allowing abuse to continue because uncle Gary's just gets a bit angry some days.

Hopefully it's the car crash we anticipate, but I'd imagine he's just going to massively lie, and the media have yet to work out a way to counter it.

How common is it for a national emergency to be declared in the US (I’m assuming that’s what this is gonna be about)? I saw that one has been in place since 9/11, and others have been declared regionally due to storms.

For once I agree.

Would be funny to see the Saudis try to deal with Iran on their own.

They won't fight Iran directly, they'll end up fighting a proxy war in what's left of Syria or Lebanon, turn the place into a smouldering shithole, creating a new wave of refugees. Knowing Saudi they won't have their own soldiers fighting but hire a band of mercenaries from Colombia, Russia or child soldiers from Africa.

Tonight is going to be a disaster. The media should have simply refused to air the liar in chief, left him to speak just to Fox like he usually does.

Such a scary moment in western democracy, breaking so many norms. He's going to be racist, lie and incite hatred, with no balance and the media are going to let him so it live to the entire nation.

Didn't Chavez host a show in Venezuela regularly? Don't tell Donny and give him notions :D

The media are complicit.

They know that anything he does gets views and that means money so they go along with it.

Money makes the world go round.

Complain about a man lying.
Broadcast the man's one way traffic of lies live.

What's overdone is people constantly fact checking Trump on stuff that no voter will care about. There are no undecideds left on Donald Trump. It's completely pointless to focus on stuff like that.

Time for you to take a break from the thread then? Because I'd still like to discuss these things and this seems like the place for it. His lies are enormous and deserve highlighting. The one in particular I last posted, putting words in other president's mouths and having them publically have to deny it being a good example.

If you don't like people factchecking him, it's pointless for you to read this thread, isn't it? Because it's not going to stop. People are always going to discuss his fecking enormous lies. You'll just be going around in circles telling people they're idiots for discussing it.

What is the national security threat on the Southern boarder?

A total of zero us citizens were killed in the US in terrorism related incidents in 2018. Three were injured by Marckles Alcius, a US citizen facing trial for crashing a stolen truck into a Planned Parenthood clinic, and, Cesar Sayoc Jr, also a US citizen, is facing charges for mailing pipe bombs.

By contrast forty thousand people were killed in shootings, the highest level in 20 years.

Obviously, drugs come over the boarder, but, is that a threat actually solved by a wall? There is a 5,000-mile "wall" between Central and Southern America and The United Kingdom and I've never struggled to get my hands on cocaine.

Very much so .It was them that gave him the idea about a National Emergency.

Okie doke. I'll continue to discuss actual stuff and you can feel free to reply with one-line "we got him" posts.

Enjoy.

Right or wrong, networks are there to make money, man. If they pass up the chance, people will flick to the channel where it's on and watch it over there. They really have little choice, unless they all band together and decide not to telecast it.

Of course, but it still galls me. Sigh.

Their proxies in Syria are pretty much all but defeated and with Western nations normalising relations with the regime there’s no future with resuming that front. As for Lebanon, well the demographics there are far more complicated considering that Shias, Christians and secular Sunnis far outnumber the fringe group of theocratic Sunnis. And let’s not forget their comical attempt to instigate a civil war by kidnapping the Lebanese PM.

He's surely got a point though? I think it's important to highlight Trump's lies to a certain extent, but the outrage every time he says something ridiculous probably doesn't serve much of a point at this stage - we know he lies constantly and he isn't going to stop as long as he's in office.

I think there's more value in continuing to discuss them, and their escalation, than replying with "We Got Him" again and again, to be honest.

People are going to be discussing this far into the future and these lies are all part of the tapestry of shit that he's weaving. The vast number of them and the current seemingly repercussionless nature of his lying is a point even on its own and what it means for US politics in the future.

Is it really not something worth talking about that all former living presidents have factchecked him for claiming they agreed with him this week?

@Eboue, hit me with another zinger.

Instead of purely "we got him", I'll try and mix in stuff like "hes done for now".

No, it's not. Nothing will come of it.

Nothing will come of it because the US political system is utterly fecked and the GOP are jobsworth cowards. It is still absolutely worth talking about though in that context and I've no doubt it'll be a talking point of ignomy when all of this is over.

I don't believe the system was ever intended to be anything other than a means for the wealthy and connected to exercise influence and enrich themselves. And that applies to any political system.
