The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Republicans are full of shit. The man wanted a cabinet position.
Trump doesn’t need to do anything, just plaster that face of him from the dinner pic everywhere and anything Mitten says or does is voided.

The idiot will go on a Twitter rants regardless though.

Here we go  The REAL Trump is up. Quite tame in retort to Romney though. I expected much worse.

I'm sure this will sound like a good point to some of his supporters but it begs the question why he can't just make Mexico pay outright as he promised so the gains from the trade deal can be used on something useful.

Romney's basically saying he agrees with most of Trump's policies but just wishes he was less of an asshole.
I think Romney's directing this to the establishment GOP and the parts of the base that want someone less confrontational/stupid/brash. Unlike Flake, Corker, McCain, Romney is saying something like this just as he's starting his days as a senator. With 2019 kicking off the presidential primary season, the writing's on the wall now that Trump probably won't be the GOP 2020 nominee for one reason or another. I think we'll soon see more "mainstream" Republicans positioning themselves as the more moderate Republican choice who won't unite the left/center the way Trump does.

Would be hilarious if Romney primaried Trump . That would surely take out his core evangelical support and leave him running a bit short on support

Nah, the religious right love Trump at this point and Romney would be regarded as a traitor who's just pissed off about failing where Trump succeeded. To have to deal with a proper Primary would be an inconvenience for Trump but it'd be a minor one and I imagine he'd emerge from unscathed.

Romney will get annihilated.

By the way, he is a Mormon not an evangelical. Evangelicals are deeply skeptical of Mormonism.

That is until one earns a Republican presidential nomination and evangelical leaders are convincing their flock to vote for a particular party.

After Romney meeting, Billy Graham website scrubs Mormon’cult’ reference

It's not about Romney winning its about him pre occupying trump and weakening him in the general. No republican incumbent that has been primaried won re election. Plus as I said it would be funny.

I'm aware Romney is a Mormon. I didn't say he was evangelical. Trump as far as I recall isn't evangelical either. They however could certainly back Romney over trump if he has his same policy on Israel and on moral matters that matter to them. They hate trump but tolerate him because he can get them what he wants. They actually like Romney

Why do you think he didn't start attacking Romney like. Everyone else. Such a measured calm response. Romney could really rattle him and I think that niche of voters would be key

Don't think they love him. I think they tolerate him. RNC are already trying to find ways so Trump doesn't get primaried. That's pretty interesting I think

Would be great for the dems if Romney primaries against Trump. Gives the nevertrumpers an option and would bring out the worst in Trump, which would hopefully disenfranchise some of the GOP voters and galvanise dems

If Pelosi feels like being an utter boss, she could let the Democrats introduce a spending bill with border wall funding and add a rider that Trump release his tax returns from the past two decades. The orange Don might blow a fuse.

Full tax returns for full public scrutiny and full protection for the Mueller probe in return for a blank cheque for the wall with a clear question to his base - “Is Trump willing to make a small personal sacrifice for what both he and you consider to be essential for America’s safety”.
