This is getting extremely silly, but: that subreddit has about 20-40 new threads *per hour*, no megathreads. I heard about it first here and generally felt the strongest reaction was here. It's possible there's a huge twitter leftist backlash, but I saw barely anything where I usually browse.
 
What a farce these hearings are. There were never meant to be anything real of course as Kavanaugh's votes are already locked in. But its remarkable how under-prepared and clueless the establishment Democrats have been. Just inexcusably sloppy comments that seem to forget there is an important mid-term election coming up. Feinstein is really a joke of a Democrat and is about 6-12 years past her expiration date. Really ineffective as the ranking member of the opposition party. Republicans just play the modern politics game c.2018 much better than these past their expiration date Dems.
 
Do tax payers foot the bill for those?

Why hasn't a Democrat demanded a cost to date of the rallies, then asked what benefit they bring? While we're not giving federal employees a raise etc?
 
The prelude to the op-ed suggested that the anonymity was because revealing the person's identity would put their job in jeopardy - Pence is the only guy Trump cannot fire.

Just quickly researched - He’s called Stephen Ford and he’s a Koch appointee along with a handful of others in the administration including Conway so it would fit fairly well that he and a small group of Koch brothers deciples are ensuring the conservative agenda is fulfilled without too extreme distractions producing obstacles.

Whats the incentive here? So a senior Trump official is working secretly to undermine Trump's agenda but is now announcing it to the world in a NY times article? What's to gain from that at this time?'

They are speculating on CNN that it was someone who is a traditional conservative who feels Trump is deviating from conservative principles, especially vis-a-vis Russia and other traditional conservative positions on foreign policy. They said its a senior official at the WH so Bolton and Pence would seem to be leading contenders.

CNN also just denied that it was a man so who knows.

Yeah but why now? What does it gain them to announce it at this point in time? And why would a traditional conservative go to the NY Times and not through some of the conservative critics of Trump like Bill Kristol?

Probably because things have reached critical mass and Trump is increasingly unhinged to where they think he may completely go off the rails by something like the Woodward book, another Mueller indictment etc.

Hmm, we'll have to see what happens. I'm wary in thinking things are at such a critical mass yet, call me a pessimist. I'd love for this to be true but with the recent radio host pranksters on the phone and with emails I wish they offered a little stronger confirmation so we know its true - I still remember Judith Miller's awful articles propping up the Iraq war based on misinformation and lack of due diligence.

The difference between this and deep throat is it was Woodward and Bernstein who were essentially putting their names on the line vouching for their source. In this case we just have the anonymous piece so we don't have the credibility of two journalists putting their names on the line for credibility. Its a small but important difference for me.

These hearings have generally devolved into pure theater with the opposition, who have little recourse to stop the nomination from proceeding, are using the spectacle to fire up their own base prior to elections.
