Atlanta is the US in microcosm. You’ve got super conservatives in Cobb County, you’ve got liberals around the universities, you’ve got a great downtown area, you’ve got inner city urban slums... and an absolutely fantastic zoo. It’s got Pandas.

Its kinda sad that they're still so many preconceived notions about the south in general. Not accusing you or anything, but people do get surprised when they visit certain places down here a lot. I met an Australian at an Atlanta bar once who was extremely astounded at how modernized and progressive Athens GA was. I kept wondering what he expected from a major college town. I've encountered some northerners who were similarly amazed by places like Raleigh and Asheville NC.
In the Atlanta metro? I have a friend from Huntsville AL (big Lutheran community there) who worked for the church in an administrative position and traveled across the country as part of the job to different Lutheran churches. She was based in Atlanta and in an interracial relationship and was pleasantly surprised at how well they were received and how welcome they felt in areas like Forsyth county. Forsyth is by far the most conservative county in Georgia and probably one of the most conservative counties nationwide.
