If you read the article no where is it mentioned that Trump knew what they were doing. no correspondence is uncovered with links Trump himself and reads to me like 2 guys acting alone out to make a few quid.

People are simply getting carried away with this Trump thing. the latest is Guilani saying They cant be indict Trump. everyone has rowed in saying Guilani is mad - bonkers. yet on MSNBC the former US AG, (one of the most senior legal experts in the states) has agreed that Trump can not be indicted.
I’m as good as certain that the evidence implicitly linking Trump to all of these things is being held back until the time is right.
He’s resilient, we’ve seen that. Hitting him with seemingly big shit like that one at a time isn’t effective. He manages to swat it away and survive it.
To take Trump down it’s going to need a reservoir of shit collected and dropped on his head in one hit. Drown him in the stuff so it’s completely overwhelming and congress have no choice.
There’s also the fact that any serious evidence that implicitly links Trump to a crime would take Trump to defcon 5 and likely end the investigation.
Keeping him relatively comfortable and ignorant to the depth of evidence they have on him is essential right now.

Neither are you and both your assessments are equally likely to be true. The simple fact is: we don’t know what they have on Trump and if they have something, it’s unlikely to leak at this point. We will have to wait and see.

I read the article and saw it explicitly state that Donald Trump himself signed a letter of intent for the proposed development in Moscow. I think that's a pretty clear sign Trump knew what they were doing.
As for Rudy people aren't calling him bonkers for claiming the President can't be indicted. In fact most people I've seen discuss this agree that's likely the case given the DOJ memo circa 2000 (though there are some that believe this can be challenged).
What people find bonkers is Guiliani stating the President can't be indicted as though it's an exoneration from Mueller or that it has any implication on the investigation itself.
Combine that with his absurd claims that "the investigation should be shut down as no collusion has been proven", statements such as "I'm an expert on the law but I don't know the facts" and his daily routine of talk first, walk back later and it's pretty clear why Rudy has turned into a punchline.
Its a shame Trump wasn't there. As we all know, he would run towards the shooter; taken him down and beat the hell out of him, with just his pinkie finger -- just like he would have if he was in a school shooting.
