He won't be getting invaded but if he attempts to change course and go hard line again, the economic sanctions would only get tightened which would choke him off from within. And obviously if he attempts anything militarily then Trump will end his regime.
I don’t see his generals letting him try anything militarily since it’ll spell the end for the DPRK and I don’t think he cares about sanctions, he’s not a moralist.

I still think this is one audacious power play by him to feck with Trump and paint the US as inept and disinterested in peaceful reconciliation.

The fact of matter is that no nation that has successfully developed nuclear weapons has voluntarily destroyed or given them up (except former USSR republics, in which case they were inherited ). It's not going to happen with Korea either .

Think South Africa might have.

Unfortunately, the Prez trumps the generals in terms of who gets to call the shots. If Kim attempts to play hard ball (which I don't think he will in the end) then Trump will feel incentivized to put maximum pressure on him as a penalty for messing around with the process. It will also cast Moon in a particularly gullible light for having warmed to Kim. Everyone is therefore incentivized to proceed towards cooperation and negotiations - because the alternative is death and destruction.

I still don't think they will let him use the n option . Everybody and his dog knows he is a lunatic now, and is just waiting him out. Authority or not , for the good of the world they will kick the football out of his hands . That's what I think and hope.

I don’t think he’s as stupid and crazy as the Western media depicts him to be. Granted he’s probably every bit as ruthless as both his father and gramps, but he’s not some parodic Asian version of Dr Evil.

If anything he’s probably come across as more diplomatic and statesman-like than Trump, but again so would Skeletor I suppose.

This is a good point touched upon in regards to sanctions. They disproportionately effect the average citizens instead of the elite, and as such, do not put pressure on the regime unless the general populace has enough momentum to enforce regime change. Which is clearly not the case here.

This is what so many pundits miss with how sanctions relate in other places such as Iran and Russia.

Most pundits are armchair expert. They dont really know how asians thinks let alone a unique monster like north korea and kim jonh un. Bet most of them are just scholars who based everything on observations and history channel

I was not referring to Kim.

You really can't compare a 6kt device to the several hundreds of kilotons that can be used against cities and can act as a viable deterrent. It has a tactical usage on a battlefield though.
Is the 6kt device a nuclear weapon?

How hard is it to say, “oh, oops. I guess South Africa did!”...?

Yep. It was a monumental feck up breaking the Iran deal before negotiations with NK for the same purpose. It cannot be emphasised enough what a doltish half wit the man is.

Just doing what he's told isn't he?

I feel right a complete conspiracy nut, I do, I know what I sound like... But with everything we've witnessed over the last couple years it's just bloody obvious isn't it? Putin has got his hand in all of this - Discredit the US, isolate them from its allies. It's all going to plan, he's making the most out of Trump while he's got him.

You can grind a kg of used fuel and create a 'nuclear weapon' . But we both know this is not the kinda of devices we are discussing here. I guess I should have specified ''that can be used as a deterrent" above, I thought it went without saying.

It's amazing how many people haven't figured this out as yet. The more Trump pulls America out of stuff, the better it is for Russia in the medium to long term. Putin knows that trust is a very difficult thing to get back once broken and Trump is doing exactly that with America's allies.

Latest rumours were that US was offering a desl that included no verification. The Iran deal is going to look like the deal if the xentuce compared with what this buffoon signs.

Yep, some real 4d chess moves from Putin. He’s even got the hardliners and Jesus freaks in the US who’ve traditionally been vehemently anti-Soviet/Russian sympathetic towards him.

The Iranians will tell him to get fecked, especially if the Europeans come through with their promise to protect the original terms. And even if they don’t I’m sure the hardliners will be more than happy to pursue a nuclear weapons program.

For a guy who prides himself on making deals, he’s really buggered one of the best ones they’d negotiated in reason history.

I also think that the Iranians will wait to see what a deal with NK looks like. If Kim gets a sweet deal, I'd expect Iran to tear the JCPOA up, get their nukes and tell the west to come back with a better deal.

Even if that is true , it is a significantly inferior low yield device compared to what the current nuclear powers posses.

Not sure why you're making a thing out of this, its simple history. They were developing both a nuclear program and a ballistic missile program. They stopped after major international pressure, and gave up their weapons. If they hadn't done so, realistically we'd have to have expected them to keep developing their arsenal into something much more dangerous. They didn't, so good on them.

Hasn't it always been his plan? Just care about your own backyard.

He so definitely called him a moron.

He’s surprised me to be honest. He’s surprisingly moderate for a Republican, especially from such a corporate background.

I assume he’s a right leaning libitarian which explains why he’s Republican but rather than being a self serving, narrow minded cnut he genuinely believes in laissez-faire policy. To someone with that sort of belief, Trump is a huge threat for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, despite pushing to relax regulations, Trump personally meddles with trade agreements and gets involved with business coversations when he should.

Secondly, Trump’s an absolute disaster for center right Republicans, there’s a good chance he’s going to set them back a decade.

Moreover , I think he firmly believes in meritocracy and despises everything about trump , after he has had the chance to know him.

feck Tillerson. He didn't say anything about Trump lying when he was SoS. No balls and comes over like a whiny bitch now.

Generally speaking, the head of the State department publicly humiliating the POTUS wouldn’t be considered productive.
