The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

When men were men, women were home-makers, gays were locked up and blacks sent to the back of the bus.

Seriously though, I think they just want their voices heard. In most of the last decade if you where not part of the Obama coalition ( Millennial, blacks, Latinos, urban Liberals or the LGBT community) you have been ignored and ridiculed. Clinton promised more of the same, listen to her career, campaign speeches, see never even addressed white America or their concerns.

What exactly was ignored? What are white America's concerns aside from all American concerns?

Yes because while the minorities have wanted equality, white people have been oppressed.

wait...

She addressed them plenty during the campaign, networks didn't bother to cover it.

If anything, she didn't embrace identity politics far enough. She spent practically the whole summer courting Republicans and right leaning independents, with primaries wounds still fresh in the minds of Sandersnistas. If she'd gone full comrade mode then it might buff her credentials a bit in the blue states (doubtful still, given how PA turned out)

Any constructive criticism of the goals of the Obama coalition. If you asked any questions you where branded racist sexist or anti gay.

Obama can be criticised for plenty but if by 'goals of the Obama coalition' you mean things like gay marriage and racial/gender equality than I really can't think of many examples of good arguments that were made against it.

For all this talk of Trump voters wanting their voices heard I still can't see any agreement over what they want.

Their concerns are the same as most other groups - jobs, economics etc.
That's what I'd have thought, that's what I was getting at.... But maybe that poster (or others) has more examples to give (given that those are reasonable concerns and won't result in you being branded a bigot/racist/etc)? I'm all ears...

That's a fecking ridiculous statement. Obama's main legislative accomplishments in health and taxation have benefited poor whites more than any other group. Why don't you people ever deal in actual facts?

You make a good point here. Irrespective of Russian hacking and Comey, which obviously played a massive part in the outcome, it still papers of the cracks that there is a significant swath of blue collar whites who were economically disenfranchised enough to be susceptible to someone like Trump coming in and telling them he could help them. Hillary of course, was not the ideal person to face a populist.

Thing is wouldn't Trump appeal to those people anyway?

You have two choices, the party in power and the party out of power, so if you're in that position isn't it obvious you go for the different one? I'm not sure I've seen massive amounts of evidence in the polling data that Trump galvanised a particularly 'significant swath' of blue collar workers beyond what you would expect him to get, but I'd be interested to see if it does exist.

It seems that Hillary's biggest problem is that (apart from spending her money poorly and basically giving up) she couldn't convince people she represented anything different to Obama (and in many ways was just a worse version of him rather than an improvement).

Was the economic disenfranchisement caused by democratic policies?

That may well be, but the memories of NAFTA and Obama's recent signing of TPP were touchstone issues in these states. Hillary's opposition to trade deals smacked of electioneering, therefore could hardly be relied upon over the longer term. In and of themselves, some of her policies could have helped these people; however she as an individual diluted their sincerity.

It doesn't matter what caused it, what matters is it exists and the Dems failed to put up a candidate who could assuage blue collar concerns. Instead they corronated someone who relied on Beyoncé and George Clooney to nudge her towards the finish line.

Farage moving to the US. Yippeee

Woohooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Best news I've had all year (well aside from my clear brain scans that is) Good fecking riddance to the nasty prick. Hopefully that cnut Piers Morgan decides to join him and fecks off back to the States too.

He wouldn't have appealed to them that much without going extremely negative on anyone who blocked his path including Jeb, Rubio, Cruz, and Hillary. Trump didn't even represent the party out of power, he merely used it to propel himself to the Presidency.

We've already tried Piers in the US. You can keep him.

I disagree. These trade deals like NAFTA and TPP have shipped millions of decent paying jobs overseas and have resulted in lower standards of living for working class people. Wages have remained stagnant. People pay tax but they get very little in return. Healthcare in the US is legalized extortion. People felt that the government in Washington was not working for them, instead they were working for the special interests and lobbyists. The power in the country is with the corporate interests and the political establishment. And to make matters worse, Hillary Clinton who symbolizes the political establishment and is in bed with lobbyists etc was running. She had so much baggage and history. Ordinary people were struggling with stagnant wages and decreased standards of living and she was out there campaigning with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Jay Z. They felt completely left out.

You're welcome to Farage... The further away from here the better.

No, he wasn't a traditional republican but thats not what I meant. He was the Republican candidate after 8 years of Democrat Presidency though so its almost a given he'll get votes from people who feel let down by the Democrats regardless of what he says.

Maybe the republicans who have controlled the Senate and House with a 5-4 Supreme Court in their favor should shoulder some of the blame. How come these do nothing scoundrels get away without criticism. Since I have been paying attention to American politics I can tell you what I have noticed, the republicans run against themselves every election cycle. Every fecked up thing they talk about can be traced back to their policies and to some extent, Bill Clintons.
Obama has been a champion while dealing with the shittiest pack of repubs you could imagine.
You call out Hillary for campaigning with celebrities even though the repubs ran a reality tv star who cares about nothing but himself. These are the people millennialist listen to, not Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi.
I'm disgusted by jobs being shifted overseas but it's a lot more complicated then a company deciding to lay off workers and go to where the labor is cheap and the fact is that these jobs will not return. We have so many issues to resolve but you can guarantee a republican will not fix them and if we pay some attention to recent history we can see that they usually make it significantly worse.
If these people felt so left out of the economy how do we quantify the fact that they voted for a man who is more comfortable surrounded by gold and greed then someone who has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of woman and children world wide. No matter what way you look at it this is a disaster for everyone and it's the trump voter that will get ass fecked first.

This guy doesn't have political advisors? I am in the 'fecks given' part of the population to his presidency, but seriously, the next POTUS can't be fecking around on Twitter like this?

That little bolded bit might be a clue. America first.

In fairness to Trump, if he curtails the number of, let's call them "foreign adventures" the US embarks on, things should improve at home. Iraq cost upwards of a billion dollars every single day. Imagine if just 10% of that had been invested in the USA proper.

MIC will have something to say about that...

Money wouldn't be there to 'invest' though, that's the whole point. The American public just can't be sold on deficit spending in peace time, but will pull out all the stops to 'support the troops', until things went haywire.

They were in the depth of the crisis back in 09 and the most Barry could get out of Congress was 700 bn. Most reputable economists at the time pegged it at at least upwards of 1 trillion.

Which brings us to where we are, the plebs don't understand nuances or policies, but 'MAGA' and 'America first' sounds good, the Tangerine Overlord was right when he asserted all the way back that people rely on feelings, not logics, when making decisions.
