The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

If he resigns though he'll be far more vulnerable to a legal prosecution, no? There'd be no impeachment process, no chance of a pardon from Pence would there?

I suspect the US establishment won't have the stomach to prosecute. The collective sigh of relief that he is gone will mean the country will want to focus on moving on.

This is just absolutely disgusting. I honestly feel that a war is on the way, seriously. They are clearly of the mind it's them against the rest of us and so many angry people feeling legitimised by Trump now. I fear this isn't going to end well at all. All eyes need to be on the next rally, and hopefully it is policed properly and nobody gets hurt.

I said that months ago, could anyone envisage a new civil war based on a bad choice of president? Fast forward, I don't think the nation has been as devided since the days of the last war. This president has done nothing to unite the people, every policy and every word he says divides. Its scandalous!

Don't think it will go as far as a war, I think trump would be ousted first. But it won't take much to ignite the hatred in some counties. Could you imagine what would happen if the kkk were to kill a black person now? Or for someone to be shot? There would be anarchy and the forces of law would lose control quickly imho.

Trump's ghost writer reckons he's gonna quit, so do I.

And what a fecking mess he leaves behind. A country more divided internally, frosty relationss externally with other countries

I really hope that if he's planning to go back to his businesses that people stop doing business with him. His reputation is now fecked. Maybe he's more concerned wth that than being a good president. The horrible 2 faced kkk hood wearing bastard. He's certainly shown his true colours now

I agree completely and I also think Trump will be unbearable if he steps down. Even more unbearable than he is now, but at least he wont be President anymore. As I said previously he will be abhorrent and will go after everyone, even more so than he is doing now. The world will never hear the end of it, how he was persecuted like nobody else in the world has ever seen. How he accomplished more than any other President in history in such a short amount of time. How people weren't smart enough to understand what he was doing, how the Democrats just blocked everything he did, how the Republicans were all wolves in sheep's clothing and how they all had their knives out ready to stab him in the back. He will be crying non stop and shouting about how unfair everything was to him.

The press will be slammed more than they are now, and his supporters, well they could be very, very dangerous indeed. Knowing Trump and how nasty, vengeful, spiteful and irresponsible he is, he could really cause some serious shit if he didn't handle it properly. And knowing Trump I don't think he would. His supporters are a powder keg waiting to go off at any moment and Trump has a responsibility when he communicates with them to not encourage trouble and I just think it's inevitable he's going to start riots. Your comment about him being scandalous is absolutely spot on. He is so irresponsible and very dangerous, he is also an absolutely disgraceful role model for kids, in a position where he could and should be the complete opposite.

If he is going to step down he will make sure he pardons everyone before he goes, including himself. There will be no limit to the destruction he will cause on the way out, just the same as there is no limit to the destruction he is causing at the moment. No matter what happens the USA really does need to learn from this. Changes need to be made to the rules of electing Presidents, far more screening needs to be carried out and serious mental health and competency tests need to be met.

The horrible 2 faced kkk hood wearing bastard. He's certainly shown his true colours now

Ahaaa! I could feel the venom in that statement from here. You're not wrong either.

I keep thinking back to the LA Riots. That was crazy. No coincidence they happened under a Republican president.

Pence.

Who is a certifiable religious nutcase.

It doesn't end if trump runs away, in many ways, with pence being more competent, it could get worse.

Who takes over if he goes?

Giggseh til enduh' seasun?

Ivanka... he will make her VP just before he resigns (so she can pardon him from any prosecution)

Nice, I just finished reading that, great article, as was the one you posted earlier about a Trump voter regretting their choice.

It's really quite sad that so many people are buying in to the Fake News narrative, and that that is being spread so effectively by Trump, because people are missing out on some outstanding journalism. So many excellent articles being written and published, and many great investigative stories coming out too. It must be disheartening for such fine work that often takes months to get right, is so easily dismissed as Fake. Something needs to be done, I just can't for the life of me think what. A certain percentage of the world now (not just the USA) sincerely believes everything on certain channels, or in certain publications, is Fake News. It's disheartening to say the least. I have nothing but admiration and respect for those that work hard to continue to get the truth out there.

We live in a world where there is too much data, news sources (traditional TV, Newspapers/Magazines, and the multitude of social media platforms (who then sub-divide or personalised into various profiles) and politicians saying things that are completely devoid of the truth. Its too much for the general population to absorb now. Their minds are spinning. As a result, people just want to simplify their lives and world view -- leading to bunker-like bubbles.

People have a varying degree in the ability to join the dotted lines. I suspect that Trump despite the confusing media/informational landscape will eventually die of a thousand cuts and not a silver bullet. These great journalism pieces will eventually bite -- due to the varying degrees to join the dotted lines.

It wont be this quick. I think Mueller's investigation will take at least another year -- so either Trump resigns before the investigation's conclusions are published or he strokes out from his hypertension which will only get worse as the investigation progresses.

I know it has been posted before, but the Economist's article is spot on:

https://www.economist.com/news/lead...naldtrumphasnograspofwhatitmeanstobepresident

At the root of it all is Mr Trump’s temperament. In difficult times a president has a duty to unite the nation. Mr Trump tried in Monday’s press conference, but could not sustain the effort for even 24 hours because he cannot get beyond himself. A president needs to rise above the point-scoring and to act in the national interest. Mr Trump cannot see beyond the latest slight. Instead of grasping that his job is to honour the office he inherited, Mr Trump is bothered only about honouring himself and taking credit for his supposed achievements.

Presidents have come in many forms and still commanded the office. Ronald Reagan had a moral compass and the self-knowledge to delegate political tactics. LBJ was a difficult man but had the skill to accomplish much that was good. Mr Trump has neither skill nor self-knowledge, and this week showed that he does not have the character to change.

Cheers!

I used to work in a world where the wet dream was first 500 digital channels and then multitudes of Internet TV channels. Now you realise that you dont need that many sources if you know yourself better and what you actually are interested in or enjoy.

 I grew up with just three TV channels, I know what you mean.

I think that if Trump is actually impeached, it could lead to the worst riots in US history. All those redneck, alt-right, automatic weapon carrying lunatics will absolutely explode. I obviously hope it doesn't happen and I'm certainly no expert in US politics or history, but it appears that he has a rather large amount of followers of that exact type. They will believe that that the snowflakes and fake news have overthrown the strongest and first truthful president in decades and they will be furious because of it. I very much doubt that Trump will do anything to stop it either. In fact, I think he could very well try to instigate it, if only to be able to tell himself how many people are angry about him being removed.

Pence will probably take over if it happens, and while he's a religious nutcase he doesn't seem nearly as dangerous as the orange faced twat currently in charge.

Trump called for people to take to the streets and launch a revolution after Obama beat Romney in 2012. If he feels he's being forced out, he'll be on Twitter rallying his support straight away.

We've seen bubbas set up camps in Nevada or Oregon on federal lands for a week or so before packing up and going home. They lack the constitution for anything more than a troll job here and there.

You can't have it both ways, by you logic the DNC should not even bother with primaries in southern states as she'd never win, at the same time, she'd win NY even if she shot someone on 5th avenue.

So they should only run primaries in battle ground states?

But the point you obviously missed is running a candidate who is obviously Going to lose the battleground states in the GE.

Surely, if Orange Julius steps down the investigations would continue on Trump's background especially the possible/probable financial crimes committed. I figure Meuller turns it over to the FBI and/or DoJ. The only problem with the DoJ running the investigation/involved would be Trump appointees colluding to end it or bog it down with whatever possible. Additionally, if the new POTUS pardoned him for any and all that would be a huge mark against the incoming POTUS. I can't imagine Pence wanting that kind of negativity and press to start off his presidency but on the other hand we have seen Republicans go against their supposed moral high horse numerous times.

Firstly, she wasn't "obviously" going to lose those states, every indication was that she would have won those.

Secondly, now you're concentrating on only those 3 states? Hind sight really is a wonderful thing. What about Florida? Is that not a battle ground state? Didn't she wipe the floor with him there?

In fact, she won Pennsylvania by more than 12%. So how exactly would Bernie have had a better chance winning it.

You are missing the bigger picture which is voters from both sides rejected the status quo. This was obvious from the nomination process.
Even now the voters are being blamed for what happened. When the reality is that both parties pushed status que politicians. The GOP failed. The DNC managed to get their candidate through.
And now we have Trump.

The problem is the DNC is still not listening to its base.

Can you guys please stop polluting a Trump thread with talk about Bernie/Hillary? There are separate threads for that. Mods have already requested that people stop spamming this thread with off topic shit.

Seconded. Grinding dead embers there. Keep this for what the title of the thread says it's meant to be about.

:lol: I like Keith Olbermann tbh. Great points all round reg the journalism pieces guys. It's so true that there are some fantastic articles out there just now and for people so easily dismiss realy good depths of work as Fake so easily must be very disheartening.

Must commend you all for this thread, some of the pieces you guys are sharing from Twitter are brilliant. Cheers guys!

Oh, and #Trump out  from a Jock across the Pond.

Has anybody published Arnold's tweet?

That's actually a very good point that I missed. For the supposed party of Lincoln, they are carrying around confederacy flags... Unbelievable how ironic that is.

Good video by Arnie.

I'd forgotten about that mob that got acquitted in Oregon for taking over a wildlife reserve. There's a chance such acquittals and actions become both motivating and emboldening in my opinion.

This stuff really is disgusting. The fact that these cnuts feel like this is OK because of who's in the Oval Office is horrifying.

I saw that Beth Fukumoto on something recently, think it might have been Chelsea Handler's Netflix show. She switched from Republican to Democrat party recently, seemed really switched on and only quite young iirc.

Yes it's truly sickening. I couldn't imagine what would posses someone to write something like that. Well type, it's clear they would struggle to actually write a letter.

I must admit I haven't seen or heard a lot about her, just a lot of people (like yourself) saying positive things. I'm going to have to go and find some articles and videos now to take a look.

Apologies about that
