The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

I have never understood why "saying what thinks" is perceived as a good quality.
Where I come from, people who can't control their tongue are usually regarded as fools.

More often than not you can easily swap "he says what he thinks" with "he says bigoted things and that means it's ok for me to say them too now".

Indeed, the same with "tells it like it is" which actually means "lies about things which make me feel like it's ok to be a bigot".

That lady with the 'He speaks what he thinks like me, that's a good quality to have' as opposed to the guy who introduced healthcare that gives her 6K worth of medicine every month for free. You go girl

The problem is that Trump played into the fears and hopes of those people. Makes you wonder given the huge health issues those people have why they'd want to continue working in a trade that does that to them. What should have happened was provide those people with replacements jobs that used a similar skill set.

Why these people want good paying coal mining jobs that kill you is beyond me. And why they can't comprehend that coal jobs have plummeted for ages is beyond me. Their hatred of Obama is so irrational. It's getting harder for me to be sympathetic when I see videos like that.

Read a couple of stories that the orange one might try to sneak into the UK over the next couple of weeks to avoid mass demonstrations. What a pussy!!

So scared of people exercising their right to protest that he needs to hide the announcement of his possible arrival

Regarding that video and Obama's war on coal...

Anyone know if jobs decreased after Sept 2014?

Edit: in the last 3 years the number employed has dropped to a little over 50,000.

 She said the only Irish people she saw the entire trip was her family. She's batshit hence why I didn't want to argue. I simply cannot be arsed with someone who is so hypocritical and of the generation that don't realise they are exceedingly racist. She enjoyed the fruits of the EU by living in Spain for 15 years yet thinks it was the UK's worst ever decision to join? I think that counts as batshit. Meanwhile, talking of batshit, here's the king of batshit himself.....

 FFS! So many jokes, so much wrong. Wow, just wow!

Yup, Qatar, the country that none of you feckers can pronounce (it's really not pronounced CUTTER!) is being scapegoated for all the world's terrorist ills while Saudi Arabia continues on as its normal abhorrent self with not only your blessings, but also your money and your sweaty little hands all over it's balls, I mean orbs.

 Probably phoning his sleazy mate Berlosconi. Ugh!

Lol! Is he talking to himself?

Especially when they religiously vote for a party whose entire mantra is that people should take personal responsibility for their own health/work etc. Presumably that only extends till the point when those same Republican voters suddenly discover they actually kind of need government help.

While channel surfing yesterday, I saw a piece on C-SPAN where an older sounding male called in and was complaining to the host about how"they" (the MSM/left) were being such obstructionists and were not allowing Trump to do his job. He actually said that people should give him more time and allow him to work rather than opposing every step of the way.

To this, the anchor then said he'd got 6 months- how much more time did he think the president needed and the guy who called in again made it a point to give Trump the space and time needed, without protesting in any shape or form.

I wonder if the media (CNN, WaPo, NYT etc) should just not try to corner Trump on everything and just report something that he did and move on to other "stories".

I suppose the "heartland" voters are so badly brainwashed that the more you try to speak sense to them, the more they side with their supreme leader.

How exactly is the media obstructing him? He's the bleedin' President and the MSM have no control of day to day governance.

Try talking that bit of sense to the guy who called in to C-SPAN.

The one thing I've begun to realize is that these heartland voters just can't understand reason.

It's not worth bending to their will when it makes no sense. I'm very much for both parties coming together when it makes actual sense to get things done, like infrastructure.

It's easy to be like that when it doesn't effect you personally. I have a feeling many will change their tunes as soon as it gets closer to home. I hate to say it, but maybe Trump, Ryan and McConnell are exactly what is needed in the USA for people to wake up and realise that maybe the majority of the western world is right and that some form of Universal Healthcare isn't such a bad idea after all.

Have you ever lived in the states? Try a red state for a year or two and see what you think then mate

Firstly, irony escapes him more than the odious methane gas escapes his mouth. Does he not realise he is wasting a Presidency? And his life Tweeting inane comments all the time? Absolutely no self awareness whatsoever. That aside, let's look at this from a geopolitical view and we should all be extremely worried. He has just basically washed his hands of it and passed it over ON TWITTER. ISIS and the like must be rubbing their hands with glee, this is no leader of the free world, and the USA is no longer the most powerful country on Earth. A country is only as powerful as its leader and he has proven to be inept and cowardly and completely out of his depth. What a pathetic pair of Tweets

I was about to say this.

He gives bigoted people the warm and fuzzies because they hear the president saying what they always thought instead of a president telling them they're wrong for thinking how they do.

So anything happened since page 1000? I haven't been following recently, got a bit bored and depressed with it all.

Doesn't matter what they realise if they keep believing Trump is their lord and saviour while Obama is the devil incarnate.

Feck their tears. For 8 years Obama was the anti-Christ to these people. All the guy did was try his best to get them affordable healthcare but they rather called him all sorts of derogatory stuff all because he looked different. What a dislike the most about these people is their blind hypocrisy. I feel no empathy towards them in the age of Trump. They wanted him there...face the consequences.

Facts mean nothing to these people. Graphs and stats mean nothing to them. A rich white guy told them that the black guy was the cause of their economic woes and that he was going to make their lives so much better with a lot of winning. Nothing pleases me more than seeing someone face the consequences of their actions based on ignorance and sheer stupidity.

Trump has completely delegitimised the media in as far as his supporters are concerned.
A Republican controlled congress will do nothing against him no matter the findings.
And with the DNC not havoing learned its lessons,I hold little to no hope for them the next two cycles.

Sorry to hear you're so manically depressed about this.

Must admit, i'm surprised how toothless the American System is to try and shift someone like Trump out of Office. Or at least protect some of the laws he's trying to abolish.

As I've said before, most of the Republicans don't mind him because for the most part he's similar to them: anti-free healthcare, economically pro-deregulation, pandering to the Christian base, and sceptical to climate change. Behind all the maniacal bravado he's (mostly) a run-of-the-mill Republican.

I've given up wishing for him to be impeached and have just decided to enjoy the show.

That's how normalization works. Next step is a sort of Stockholm syndrome where his comments begin to, in an odd way, make a bit of sense.

I don't know if I'd actually prefer President Pence. :nervous:

If only someone can find a way to void the election results.

Yeah, living in a weirdly insane reality TV show world is at least occasionally entertaining in a wtf kind of way. Living in a religious theocracy would probably be considerably less entertaining..

Pence is one of those who's outdated views actually make people HATE religion.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/04/politics/us-officials-meet-north-korea-missile-launch/index.html
(CNN)Trump administration national security, military and diplomatic officials are holding an unexpected July 4 meeting to discuss what options might be needed if it is determined by the US that North Korea conducted an intercontinental ballistic missile test, several administration officials tell CNN.

Top officials at the State Department and the Defense Department are participating in the meeting. If it is determined that an ICBM was launched, the goal is for President Donald Trump to potentially approve a "measured response," one official told CNN. Nothing has been decided, but that response could include sending additional US military assets such as troops, aircraft and ships to increase the US presence in the region. Diplomatic options are also being considered including more sanctions.

Oh boy
