The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

The only silver lining seems to be that states that already have their own exchanges can introduce single payer of sorts. But there needs to be a large enough population.
MA wont go back to this bill. They will insist on retaining what they have.
So will CA and my state MN for example.

Meanwhile, we are waiting... any day now, Trump's ratings drop into mid 20s when the Republicans will abandon him :wenger:

Tbh, while it's bad, it's not as bad as could be. Being so hastily and poorly written, it will be hard to implement and easy to scrap. The impact in the short term will be hellish for some people, of course. It also killed Obamacare and pave the way for single payer when the Dems can just pass the blame onto the GOP without having to deal with the ACA's many flaws.

What matters is winning elections. Any and everything else can be remedied.

Of course. It can work both ways. It can also energize the Republican base further to go harder for social reforms like abortion. After all, there are plenty of Dems who don't like abortion but sit on the fence when it comes to being enacted into law.

But it does give a clear shot for Dems in the upcoming election for a complete reboot of American healthcare system

Just read all his lies on the New York Times. He just takes pleasure in doing it, isn't he? He knows his supporters loves it.

Kind of like that Southpark episode where Cartman pretends to have tourettes and ends up getting it, Trump started lying as a necessity and it ended up being pathological.

I hope no-one ever defends me by calling me crazy...

More complicated than that I think:

The complicated bit is the word 'Insurance'

Remove it. Decimate the industry. Start with something better.

Take the NHS, aim to make a better system. No insurance.

We all know why it will never happen.

There are more than 500k employees in the health insurance industry. The coal industry has 51k in total and they raised a big stink. As much as the lobbying was/is the problem, very few president would have the popular backing to withstand the impact of those lost jobs.

No real, tangible change for the system is possible without a single party holding the 3 branches for 6-8 years. All the notable progresses made in US history were under similar circumstances.

What is alarming is this is a not for profit hospital. Also many hospitals are in terrible financial problems.
Ezekiel Emmanual on Bill Maher few years back basically said they pull these prices out of their arse most of the time. If there is no definitive pricing structure then you will most likely face financial complications.
My wife had an billing issue with our local hospital. They they lost her insurance information and after a while we received notification of unpaid medical charges. We found out they were trying to use insurance from three address' ago, three jobs ago and four health insurance companies ago. A clusterfeck from start to finish and to this day I don't know how they came across that information and why they would use it without picking up the fecking phone to correct their screw up.

Private insurance would still be an option that millions would pay for regardless of a Medicare for all system. Let's say the industry loses a third of that number isn't it a job where you can easily transfer that experience and "skill" to another industry. I personally feel it's abou time a government in this country broke up a huge sector like this for the good of the people. They tried and failed with the banks and did what they could with the auto bailout with regards to efficient mileage and better all round cars. The private insurance industry is ripe for the picking as its a bloated profit machine.

I'm just pointing out that the political system isnt friendly to radical changes and requires one party rule. I dont know near enough about the industry to offer a commentary on the viability post-single payer or transition of its employees to other industries.

I fully understand the mechanics behind it. Everyone knows it's what the country needs though.

It's a broken country though. Never happening.

I heard the opposite.

"I'm not yet a Yes."
This guy has zero principles.

He will be on his knees to that idiot.

I'm not a yes is the same thing as not being on board. The more noise his constituents make this week the less likely he will be a yes. This idea that Republicans think they'll get voted out because they didn't do what they said in terms of repealing Obamacare is a complete red herring. The reality is some of them will get voted out if they vote to repeal.

That numbers surely doesn't include actual medical practitioners, without insurance half of them could be out of job as people can't afford medical anymore. Not to mention the effect it has on pharmaceutical company (not that i care for them btw)

For that price I'd want Caesar himself doing it.

:nono: Lying scumbag.

Just shows how easy it is to form a cult: how can all those Bible thumping republicans still believe anything this charlatan says? Shades of Joe Carroll commandeering another cult in The Following.

Trump throws a ball in the air and the Democrats and Press catch it and run with it.

*thumping. 'Bashing' would mean quite the opposite of what you're saying, unless I've completely misread it.
