Then I guess it was the first time they met. Some statistic of that sort was doing the rounds before the match, anyway.

2 days after Poch took over at Espanyol (when bottom) they went to Barca and got a 0-0 but Poch shocked Pep by pressing right on Barcas defence and going man for man at the back.

Bollocks. You'll be a top team if you keep doing this for years and win multiple trophies. Right now you are overachieving.

No - 'overachieving' suggests that the team is not really as good as their league position last season (and this so far) would imply, but have simply been lucky and/or temporarily raised their game. But we have now beaten this season's title 'favourites' (City) three times on the trot, with an aggregate score of 7 - 1: that's not lucky or temporary.

Moreover, we finished above City last season and now sit in 2nd place, just 1 point behind them. It's about time you accepted that this Spurs team is bloody good, instead of clinging on to your fond delusions.

I thought Spurs raised their game today - excellent performance, mind. But average level is underneath that. 3rd or 4th for me. I prefer all of Arse, City & LFC on events of this season so far.

Utd & Chelsea are the 5th & 6th teams, atm.

It's seriously early days, the signs are promising for us but Poch will know that 7 games in is nothing more than a platform for any team.

I agree that there is a long time to go, but where Spurs have the advantage is that you are a much more organised unit at the moment and the players are clearly playing for the manager and it shows.

Poch is doing really well. One should assume the trophies will come for him sooner rather than later if he continues like this.

Argentina has some great managers currently.

Credit to Spurs. I gave them no chance of building on last season's work, but they're on their way 100%.
Son up front gives them a dynamic they don't have with Kane, Sissoko is clumsy as feck, but can do kick and run well, Rose is a 10,000m runner and the two centre backs are determined.
The, Liverpool, and City for the title.

I can see the media love in with Pochettino coming shortly. I feel old in regards to that. Should have gave Spurs Van Gaal, while we got Pochettino.

Nevertheless, what a great performance holistically. Solid defense display, great pressing and good intricate passing. Kane does not seem to be missed at the moment and the break he has with his injury could revitalize his form and make Spurs more dangerous going forward upon his return.
I was of the same opinion, too. I actually wanted Poch straight after Fergie if we couldn't get Pep.

Though I understood why we went for van Gaal at the time.

Overachieving is achieving beyond your means I.e. beyond your normal level and this has not been your normal level for the last 20 years or whatever so until you consistently place top 4 and win trophies it'll be seen as overachieving.

You are a very, very, good side, I don't think anyone is arguing that.

Or Atletico in case Simeone leaves when. Inter comes calling.

Don't think Poch would go to Atletico, in fact couldn't see him even contemplating leaving Spurs for Atletico.

With Barca being an absolute no no I can only see RM as a club that Poch would leave us for. Even then they are a club that wouldn't match up to his philosophy and especially his attitude that the sum is greater than the parts which flies in the face of RM's galactico's appriach.

Bayern post Ancelotti perhaps? They have a degree of professionalism and stability that Real M appear to lack. Poch's on the front foot game would be a big hit in Bavara.

Spurs are a real contender now, one could say the same about Liverpool. If we aren't careful it could be us who doesn't make top 4, same for Chelsea and Arsenal.

Spurs win was good for everyone. Any result but a City win was acceptable even if it pushes us third for now. Keeps it interesting.

Are Spurs actually playing better now that Roo...Kane is out injured?

I'd probably sack Pochettino. It's clear this Spurs team is incredible and yet he hasn't got anywhere near winning a trophy. He must be hanging on by a thread.

To be fair, I'd rather Spurs win the title if we can't do it this season. Infinitely better if they win the title instead of Arsenal, City and (definitely) Liverpool.

Besides, I like a few of their players and Pochettino in particular. They've built their team properly and without a sugar daddy and I respect them for that.

Think everyone would prefer that, especially if we're out of the running/

Good for the league too, mind.

Without flair or panache, no star quality. You have no player who excites, no one who can go past defenders.

Dele Alli is one of the most exciting young talents in world football imo - but I kinda know what you mean. We are very much a TEAM and we do not have that single player that we rely on (was Kane for the last 2 years) which I think is a real credit to the manager for creating such a strong squad. Most of us were very worried when Dembele was suspended and even more worried when Kane got injured but the fact we have managed to maintain and actually improve our form has been incredible.

I think we are starting to get into our groove again after what has been a shaky start in terms of performances (not in points though fortunately). I think we will have a great season again.

References to 20 (or 10) years ago are irrelevant. It's clear that Spurs have been steadily improving for some while now, culminating in a 3rd place finish last season. This season we have kicked on further IMO, as evidenced by our best ever start to a Prem season, our unbeaten status, that we've not yet conceded even 1 goal from open play, our win today and the fact that we're currently just 1 point off the top.

So I don't regard Spurs as 'overachieving' - we are where we are because the team's normal and potential level of achievement has risen significantly.

Very impressive.

The pretty much did for an entire game against City, what City did to us for a half. They have more energy and intensity in their game than I thought they did, to the extent that they went head to head against City and outclassed them, which indicates they have a much higher top level than I would have expected. And that's without Kane. I still don't think they've looked particularly impressive leading up to today's match, but the fact that they've picked up the points without playing towards their maximum is a really good sign for them.

They need to focus fully on the next few Champions League games after losing the first game, so I expect them to drop some points where you wouldn't have guessed after those games. Other than that though, I expect them to gain a fair bit of momentum / flow going forward. Their confidence will be sky high after today.

Quite remarkable how well they are doing on that budget. Also Arsenal's budget is higher than I thought it would be considering all the Wenger has no money stuff.

I think they should be considered title contenders at this stage. They've got the strongest defence in the league and always seem to offer a threat offensively, even if they're not as spectacular to watch as City/Arsenal/Liverpool. Having a strong defence will carry them a long way and I think they'll finish top four.

Let's not get carried away, we might have looked good for a couple of games without Kane but a sustained period of time would be a different matter. We were poor up front in Moscow and very profligate in front of goal at Middlesboro that could have ended up costing us 2 points.

We are a better side than many realise as most don't watch our 90 minutes week in week out but we have a long way to go to improve our consistent level.

This team has a chance to do something very good but like most sides we will need our big players regularly available.

This game was us back to our best imo and hopefully we can now maintain this level as we managed for much of last season. Dont get me wrong we will miss Kane but not as much as we would have last year.

Really?

Pochettino is the best coach in league.

On paper Spurs side is nothing special.
