I've just realised we haven't conceded a single league goal from open play yet. The single biggest reason is Alderweireld IMO - is there a better CB in the Prem?

Let's see what happens against City in 2 weeks, we'll find out more about our defensive capabilities then.

This I agree with you on. When he was at Southampton I wanted him here. Best defender in the league.

Underrated Imo, wanted him at Liverpool in the summer 2015 when Rodgers refused to buy no centre-backs and that was only highlighted more when Klopp had to bring in Stephen Caulker in January as a stop gap. I remember thinking why aren't we in for this guy and then Spurs snapped him up, but it only would have made Rodgers look even more obsessed with buying a player from Southampton when technically he actually was Atletico's.

I think he's definitely up there. I wouldn't call him the standout though but part of the group making up the top tier of CB's in this league.

Koscielny is very good, Kompany when fit (he had a rough patch but back to his best since) and I know people will call me biased but over the last 3/4 years or so Williams has also been phenomenal. City have some good CB's and there's a couple others who are all around the same level imo.

I really like this Spurs team. Very strong with good depth all around.

Before the season began, I rated City n1 and Spurs n2. THe Spurs will be Pep's first real test as City manager.

Second best in the league behind Koscielny.

You got very lucky with him I have to say. If I rem correctly, he was about to sign for southampton on a permanent deal. Also, Chelsea were interested but for some reason did not think he was up to it.

Dele Alli has signed a new 6 year contract.

The club continues to be in good shape for not having to spend too much when we move into the stadium.

Yep, there's been a spate of contract renewals at Spurs lately. So contract by contract and player by player, we are maximising the chances for the same talented group of players to continue to develop further.

If it's any consolation I wish we'd have signed Mane rather than blowing almost as much on Sissoko.

No, he's one of the best CBs in the world.

Far better than the overrated Koscielny....

Any update on Kane? Going to be weeks he's out for?

When you think the news will be confirmed? Tomorrow?

They spoke about him having a scan today/tomorrow but I think that's unlikely as they usually need the swelling to go down first. I reckon we'll know more by the end of the week.

Kane out for two months. Big blow for Spurs, need Janssen to step up for them now.

It was only 15-20 minutes and it was only Gillingham but 2 or 3 bits of play from Marcus Edwards made everybody take notice.

If this kid is half as good as the rumours then we might have something here!

Not going to go overboard as it was against Gillingham after all (no disrespect to them) - was a great match for the club in the sense it gave a few of our academy youngsters a taste of first team action.

Winks looks ready to be involved in the first team more regularly I think - he was excellent and didnt put a foot wrong. Onomah looked good as well and got his first goal for the club, CCV was untroubled but looked a monster and of course it was great to finally see Edwards get some game time and he produced a moment of real class which almost resulted in his first goal, very promising signs.

Bit of a shame we got Liverpool away in the next round as that will likely end our cup run as we will continue to play this side but it should be great experience for the kids anyway and who knows we might get a result.

I think getting Liverpool away was a great draw. With no European football they will play a strong side and we will play these lads, great experience and learning curve for them and I especially want to see CCV under pressure and Winks against a dominant midfield, we will find out a lot more.

Marcus Edwards is clearly extremely talented, the one worry will be his ability to cope physically. It's not surprising he's being watched from Spain, the football here would suit him down to the ground and IMHO he would already be playing for some La Liga teams.

Yep, it was the perfect game to introduce three more of our academy prospects - Cameron Carter-Vickers, Marcus Edwards and Anton Walkes - into competitive football for the senior team, and to give others - Harry Winks and Josh Onomah - more game time. Plus we saw summer signing N'Koudou for the first time and Janssen opened his goal account for Spurs.

I think Carter-Vickers, Edwards and Winks are all going to make the grade at Spurs and, with a bit of luck, all develop into first team regulars. Onomah I'm not quite so sure about.

Yay ... yet another key player commits further to the club: Danny Rose has signed a new contract running until 2021.

The club has taken a very clever approach to the new stadium and the costs.

Build a decent young side that can mature together, tie all the players down to long term deals and supplement it with quality young players rather than going out blowing wads of cash.

I read somewhere the other day that we have now already paid out between 150-200 million of the stadium build. Still a fair chunk to go but naming rights and the sale of commercial and private property must now be well on the way to covering the overall cost.

Were any or all of these players involved in the 6-2 tonking our lads gave you earlier in the week? I suspect not if they were called up for the EFL.

Anton Walkes and Marcus Edwards were involved, but not the others. Edwards scored and also won (but didn't take) a pen in that match.

I suspect that you'll see all of them feature in the Anfield EFL cup tie, with Winks, Carter-Vickers and Onomah perhaps starting in that match and the rest making sub appearances.

Another day and another contract signed - Walker this time and he really does deserve it imo. He has been absolutely top class in the past year and has finally cut out many of the mistakes he used to make regularly.

I read on telegraph that all the contracts were signed on the same day (Poch suit, pose and the grin was same in all pics), just that Spurs are announcing it one by one.

Good for spurs though, they have tied down all the good players.

I like the way that our manager is thinking ....

"Pochettino believes that while it might be tough to produce a completely homegrown squad at Tottenham, it's not impossible.

'It's difficult, but it happens. Why not? Barcelona nearly had a whole squad with players that came through the academy," he said.

'It's not easy though, but this would be a dream for every club.'"

Next one to be announced is Jan Vertonghen who has signed a new 4 year deal.

Next week Pochettino will go up against Guardiola. Spurs has surprised me so far this season because they did so well last season, it is easy to assume that it will be difficult to raise their game to that level again with the added fixture compilation. Next week will be a good match to analyze how good his team is.

On a side note, Son has been incredible for Spurs. I compared him to bale before he came to Spurs because of his shooting technique. So far with his few performances since coming back from Olympic duty, he has been noteworthy. I might think about adding him to my fantasy team.

It is absolutely possible to maintain a football team consisting entirely of homegrown products, assuming your club harbours a youth team with which to draw from. However expecting that squad to remain competitive and challenging on a consistent basis is a huge ask. Fergie did it with the class of 92, but still relied - quite heavily if I'm being honest - on "outsiders" to bolster the squad. Yes the Co92 formed the crux, they were the heart and soul of a great team, but without the many additions Fergie introduced over the years, in which he broke the transfer record on numerous occasions, United would have been a distinctly average team.

"you cannot rely entirely on youth"

I'm looking forward to that match purely because it's a Pochettino side vs a Guardiola one.

I follow South Korea quite closely and he was good for them during the Olympics, too. The whole team were very good and functioned well, but he was one of the ones to stand out along with Moon Chang-jin who's a favourite of mine.

Don't want to tempt fate but during the time that Pep was at Barca and Poch at Espanyol nobody took more points from Pep than Poch, and with obviously massively different quality at their disposal.
