Yeah but we have been in Europe when the teams that won the league in past two years didn't, so it will be more even in that respect

You also have Mourinho and Jose in their 2nd seasons to face.
It's hard to imagine United will have such farcicial home draws next season.

I like ribbing Spurs as much as the next person but I don't really think it's a "bottle job". They lost to West Ham, the sort of result that happens over the course of the season. If you go back to late February, they were 10 points behind a Chelsea side that had been playing 1 game a week all season while Spurs had Champions League to contend with and two extra Europa League games. Despite this they managed to claw back to within 4 points of Chelsea but the damage was long done. They'd been on the back foot for weeks and it only took one bad result for them to be out of it. They'd won their last 9 EPL games in a row and only dropped points in 3 of their last 20 games (53/60 point). A loss at some point was inevitable though and it came late enough in the season to say "that's probably it". They did well to even get close, it's not really a "bottle job" to fall just short.

Hopefully good news for us though as Chelsea could leave them with nothing to play for by the time we play them and we might still have something to fight for.

Yeah, Spurs did fantastic job to get into this position. They won 9-0 in a row and few weeks ago there wasn't a team that was near Chelsea. Credit to Spurs for digging deep and get results in the last few weeks.

Re your last point, maybe that will turn them into thugs like it did last season? :nervous:

Do you really not get it?

There are 92 professional clubs in England. Only one can be crowned Champions but that doesn't mean everyone else is obsolete. Most clubs up and down the country would do anything to just be in the Premier League, most PL clubs would dream of making the Top 4 yet you've got spoilt fans of 'big' clubs rubbishing it because it's not good enough.

It's not just Utd fans. Look at the Arsenal fans crying about every season being 'shit'. Take a step back and think of the fans who have to make their way down to watch defeats week in week out, or see their clubs dragged to ruins by mismanagement and absent owners. Then think why do people support these clubs when they hardly ever win?

United's 'demise' post Fergie is something 99% of clubs in England can only dream of. Yet spoilt fans bitch and moan. Then again some bitched and moaned when Fergie was in charge.

Perspective is an amazing thing

Of course I got it, my point is that Spurs have not progressed from last season one iota. They have secured a CL spot as they did last season, but yet again will remain trophyless. I fail to see how that could be considered progression in any form of the word.

I'm not one of those "fans" who bitch and moan at every opportunity, they make me as sick as they do you.

We are simply in a state of transition, something every football club and their fans must endure at some point. By no means do I believe that we have demised, this is a term that misinformed oppos use in an attempt to gain gratification in our barren run, but I remain certain that we will laugh last ;)

I can't stand Spurs but they haven't bottled anything. They made a decent

I don't think they have over or under achieved with the players and the manager they have got, on course for their best ever PL finish. It's about par given the quality of their XI and considering Pochettino has been managing them longer than the managers at other clubs. Labeling them as bottlers is just ridiculous considering they never lead the PL table for even 1 second. If you want to accuse them of bottling, you can point to the 2nd Leg in Europa League or the Semis against Chelsea but give them credit for stringing a long unbeaten run to make Chelsea sweat for last few games.

It's been another great season for them with only disappointment being lack of silverware, which is still eluding them. They need to hold onto their current players and add more quality to the squad and it should happen sooner rather than later.

Many more league points, fewer goals conceded, more goals scored, better league position ... you are being wilfully blind.

It's almost too easy to pick out the United supporters who began bandwaggoning the club because of its success and those who didn't in this thread.

What's the problem though? They were never gonna win the league. Sometimes you have an off day, and West Ham really turned up for that match eh. It was surprising.

W.W.W.W.W.W.W.W.W.L

Not bad for 10 games.

Clutching at straws mate.

Many more league points, fewer goals conceded, more goals scored, better league position. Your translation: "... have not progressed from last season one iota"

You're just making yourself look stupid to be honest.

Corrected it for you.

@GlastonSpur is 100% correct. Just because Chelsea have been better doesn't mean Spurs haven't improved.

Guess you're just trying to wind people up so not a big deal.

I wish. Pretty sure both Glaston and the select few United fans who post in this thread truly believe the drivel they post.

Okay, if you say so.

Spurs' progression as a football club means nothing to me on a personal level. I do not consider a few extra goals and points in the league to be progression. Perhaps it's your mentality that allows you to believe it does.

No, I'm not trying to wind Glaston up at all (well maybe a little bit :D) I'm simply stating my opinion. Sorry if it differs from your own.

For all their good football, strong defensive record, and points on the table they have another trophyless season. People can talk about improvement all they want but more of this and their stars could have their heads turned in the years to come. Teams that win trophies are the memorable ones, no one remembers the nearly-rans.

Absolutely bizarre to suggest that Spurs haven't progressed from last season. Not sure how anyone can watch them and think that. The last couple of months is surely the best that they have played consistently since the Redknapp days?

Corrected it for you.

So if a team doesn't win a trophy, they haven't progressed?

So I suppose if Burnley finish in 2nd place next season, but don't win anything, they won't have progressed compared to this season :wenger:

I'm done responding to you after this - you're clearly not worth it.

Panicked? Have you seen their run of results over the past few months? I wish we'd panic and go on a similar run ffs.

I think the point is they have had realistically one chance to pressure Chelsea, win that game and it's 1 point in it. Chelsea could wobble, it would be their first big test but we won't ever know if they would have wobbled because Spurs lost.

So it is a bottle job, again. If you go for 1 competition and mess up the once chance to pressure them it is.

Spurs fans will say "we were never going to win it anyway" but Spurs might have actually won it if they had beaten West Ham

So cutting the lead from 13 down to 4 wasn't putting Chelsea under pressure? For a while now, every league game Spurs played was a must win to keep the title chase alive and they had been racking the wins up. The word "bottled" is used way too much here to the extent its lost its meaning.

So you're going to pick your ball up and go home because some random guy on the internet does not share your opinion on Spurs' progression? Very mature of you.

Your Burnley comparison is ridiculous and does not warrant a response.

Don't know why you're taking this so personally, mate. :)

Spurs have improved but Chelsea have been the better team which means for all Spurs improvement they still haven`t been good enough .
Even though United and City have had poor seasons by their own standards I would still fancy either of them to win the league before Spurs or Liverpool .
Funny old game .

If nothing else, being in the mix for multiple seasons is progression as a whole. The next step is obviously some trophies but signs are definitely more positive for Spurs.

I'm gutted Spurs lost, was really hoping they would pip Chelsea to the title. There's still a chance though so my fingers will be crossed.

Revenue - 15/16 Season
Arsenal - 350m
Liverpool - 302m
Spurs - 209m

Match day
Arsenal - 100m
Liverpool - 57m
Spurs - 41m

Commercial
Arsenal - 107m
Liverpool - 116m
Spurs - 59m

Broadcasting
Arsenal 101m + 40m (this season £62.4m from CL)
Liverpool 95m + 28m (this season £0)
Spurs 95m + 16m (this season they got £41.8m for CL)

Wages
Arsenal - 195m
Liverpool - 208m
Spurs - 100m

Other Expenses
Arsenal - 70m
Liverpool - 59m
Spurs - 47m

With the new stadium (50-60m boost?) and getting CL more often than Liverpool or Arsenal the gap doesn't seem that big anymore. Maybe the talk of the power shift could be true

I'm not denying that Spurs have shown themselves to be a very capable football team, not in the slightest. They have a great team collective, a wealth of young talent at their disposal and a manager who is quite possibly the hottest property in the league right now. But are they really any further advanced than they were last season? I mean on a significant level, a clearly noticeable sign of progression. I honestly don't think they have.

This summers transfer window will prove to be a large obstacle for Spurs, if they can make it through that window relatively unscatched -as in they manage to keep the vast majority of their players, while adding worthwhile acquisitions to the squad - then I can see them possibly winning it next season.

In my view, we are currently in a better position than Arsenal and Liverpool to cement our self as a top side. On this point I do understand that opinions may differ, but the way I see it Liverpool got a good starting 11 offensively, but not much more and their wage structure limit them from adding to the squad depth as far as I understand. Arsenal's squad is decent, but aging and will probably lose their best player by far, on top of this their club structure is a mess with only Wenger doing things, and there are serious question marks over him atm.

Spurs have top class facilities, and soon the third biggest stadium in the country as well as a good young squad. The biggest question mark are wages, but after we move to the new stadium you'd imagine we'd be able to compete with Arsenal and Liverpool on that front (unless we have to limit this because of paying for it).

Never easy to predict the future, but I don't think we're going to inevitably falter down midtable where we 'belong' the way some have been claiming. Time will tell.

Come on, do you believe what you type?

Almost 62% in this forum thought Spurs won't get Top 4 (including me) this season. Apparently the new manager class was supposed to push Spurs outside top 4. Not only they retained Top 4, they are finishing second and the only team to even compete with Chelsea. Next season, they'll face other challenges like playing in Wembley and squad building, but how are we questioning the progress Spurs have made this season?

This line of logic is like Glaston randomly picking different years to create a trend. It's ridiculous. Spurs did well this season and have improved even though they haven't won it.

Why is more points, more goals scored, less goals conceded not a sign of progress? Also, with Spurs, its a case of a young group that'll get better with time so that's another year under their belt which is a plus.

I agree about the summer being crucial but I see it more from an acquisition point of view. Who they buy and how they fit in will be very critical unless they want to be shite in Europe again and just focus on the league. I don't see player sales being an issue because we're at a point where none of the top PL clubs will sell to each other so unless a Real, Barca come calling, their squad is safe and given the player levels they have now, the Big 2 aren't going to come calling for anyone.

How have Spurs not shown signs of progression?! Baffling... :wenger:

They have showed a small amount of progression but the notion that they'll all be sat round a table a Harry Kane's gaff lauding up finishing second is silly.

It's a disappointing end to their season. That is a fact. Not sure why people can't accept that?

I'll be honest I don't look at Spurs and feel they've improved since last season, maybe it's because I don't watch them every week but I personally preferred the balance last season with Dier and Dembele in midfield to this season when it seems most weeks it's been Dier and Wanyama. I don't think a lot of their individuals have had better seasons this year to last either Lloris, Alderweireld, Dier, Dembele, Kane were all better last season as oppose to this, Walker and Rose have missed a lot of football through injury, I'd say only Eriksen has stepped up a level

I feel disappointed as a Spurs fan but only because of how well we have done in the sense that we 'could' have won the title and we 'could' have won the FA cup - now having said that, if you had said to me at the start of the season that we would finish the season 2nd in the league (assuming we do) I would have been delighted with that. So I think we are ahead of where most people expected us to be but not yet where we want to be, so all in all it's a frustration.

Maybe because that's not what people have been asked to accept so far.

Disappointing in the sense that they've come away with nothing to show for their efforts despite all the praise and good football this season - sure.

At the same time though they have improved and have had a good season regardless if you take into account which direction the club is meant to be heading in. Successive CL places will only help them, and that should've always been their first priority.

I don't see it as a 'we should've won the league, but didn't' kind of sentiment but rather 'we've done this well, but we clearly have limitations that means we are some way off the league'. Chelsea have always been a step ahead of Spurs, and all Spurs have done is make a better spectacle of the title race.

I see it as a massive compliment to our team that some people are downplaying our achievements this season - it shows that we are being held to the same standards as the likes of Chelsea, Utd, City, etc. and that's fantastic because it shows that we are becoming a team that is being seen by other fans as a team that should be disappointed not to win things. That is progression in my eyes.

The trend that I identified a while back has continued to develop and extend further again this season.
