The Rise of the Right Wing In Ireland.

How could you not vote for him when he's giving you those feck me eyes. Oh Tony.

Whereabouts would be on the shortlist?
Only seeing this now but I don't have a shortlist put together, I'm about 2 or 3 years away from that point so I'm just hoping the world isn't on fire at that stage. Possibly Norway though, they seem relatively sane.

Yeah, Norway has always seemed like a good place to live. Having almost infinite oil wealth helps, no doubt. Bit cold though.

I can get over the cold if there's less of a risk of being overrun by fascists. I'll be voting left and transferring left today anyway in the hopes we can keep these utter scum at bay a little while longer anyway.

There was a LOT of scummy, facists in the european election for Dublin. Hopefully they get nothing.

Not fascists as much, though there's a bit of a panic right now over young men polling very clearly to the right. But young women are polling very clearly to the left, so there's that. We've got a pretty healthy, rational political discourse though, even if we also have people trying to Americanise it. Largely they're fringe. Just the other day the entire parliament came together on a domestic defense spending package, and every now and then parties both to the left and right of the government (which is a minority government usually getting their majority with support from the Socialist Left Party) will cooperate on bills.

Also getting warmer, which is... you know, probably not so great on the whole. I think we had the warmest May ever in the north, with days in the high 20s (which is a very good summer day, never mind mid May).

So what’s the best strategy to keep these shitebags in their place? Stop voting after your top few choices? Or give every candidate a number, with the shitebag in last place?
I've always heard it was vote all the way down the ballot and give them nothing. Give a number to literally everyone but the fascists. That's what I did.

If you are going all the way down don't mark in the scum. Your vote could technically transfer down all the way to your lowest preference

Ok, kewl. I now regret not asking this question before I voted :(

Me ma always told me growing up to number everyone all the way down the ballot sheet but I've always done what's been suggested earlier. It was advice from a simpler time when there wasn't a plethora of irredeemably hateful scum clogging up the ballot paper. There are twats who I never, under any circumstances, want my vote transferred to.

Gavin Reilly in the Examiner

"If there are specific candidates that you “absolutely don’t want to get elected”, you should vote “for literally everybody else”."

Apparently the voting station in Clonskeagh was in the Muslim primary school attached to the Mosque. I'd say that has caused aneurysms.

In preparation for voting yesterday I watched the European hustings on RTE player and recognised some of the early hints of brexit style idiocy from some candidates...

Having lived through the horror once I'm keen to avoid this happening in Ireland too!

Early Stages of "Brexit" style Right wing Nonsense too listen out for

"no -one is talking about leaving the EU, but we need to secure a better deal for Ireland"

"Ireland isn't getting a fair crack of the whip from the EU"

"The situation with EU rules on (Insert Fishing, agriculture, green, right to burn turf, building standards, immigration, export of product x, ) is becoming intolerable and something must be done!"

Call for re-negotiation on EU rules on single issue or variety of issues - over-react when this is rejected

"It's time to negotiate a new deal for Ireland if we are to continue to be a part of it"

Hopefully at this point we don't have some idiot like Cameron in charge of a party that actually tries to do something as stupid as threaten the EU with a renegotiate or die type threat.

If you get to that stage then it's slippery slope time!

Yep. The leader of the Irexit twats "Irish Freedom Party" is Farage's ex press officer.

Anti Immigration prick Niall Boylan looks to be getting a seat in Europe. feck sake Dublin, we were relying on sophisticated city types voting properly to save us!

That utter fecking lunatic Conway in Sligo is on 4% which is insanely high considering how fecking mental he is.

Sinn Fein struggling. So that the only realistic opposition in the history of the State damaged by the emergence of the far Right. So tediously predictable. People are thick.

Where are you finding these results? It takes ages for EU elections to be decided.

Local radio and certain journos/commentators in the count centres. It takes ages to sort final seats as STV is complicated but you get an early indication of big winners or losers after a few hours.

Look at this lovely persons leaflet

Did you know that 85% of people arriving at Irish airports destroy their passports? Wow

Coincidental I'm sure. FG making sure to have lots of pictures of camps being bulldozed isn't playing into it all either, the cnuts.

While not by 100% design, it's not entirely a coincidence.
