The Rise of the Right Wing In Ireland.

Yeah, they haven't a notion. I saw another of them compared to Connolly. He was a Scottish communist lads. Not the same, at all.

Once I'm finished what I'm doing here at the moment I'm getting the feck out of dodge. This country is going down the shitter the exact same way as a lot of the West and I'm sick of pissing in the wind trying to stop it.

Once we have a couple of far right freaks in the Dail spewing their shit, I feel things will get much worse.

I don't think that there has actually been a big shift to the far right.

Ireland is not a hotbed of multiculturalism, and that is not Ireland's fault. It just hasn't been a desired destination for people to move to. Why would anyone want to move to a country where the residents have historically desired to leave as soon as they can? In some places, Ireland is like time capsule. It hasn't moved on. But it hasn't had to either.

And in some of these rural towns, where you can't get a doctors appointment, there's no dentist, no childcare, no new homes being built. Men in their 30's still living with their parents. Half the shops that closed down during lockdown are still boarded up. Everyday life is a pretty hard existence.

Then one day out of the blue, 3 coaches pull up with Algerian men, and they all pile into the only hotel in town. Which also screws up any chance of tourists coming to your town and spending their money in the local pubs, cafes/shops. Which is what they all rely on.

If you are a resident of this sort of town, it wouldn't be racist or right wing to say, "I live here and I've got nothing. What the hell are we supposed to do with 200 homeless men, who can't even speak the language?"

This is a completely different scenario in a big city, where there are an abundance of services that can absorb it, where there are government departments that support every tier of social welfare and healthcare needs, but the Irish government are trying to hide people in the arse end of nowhere. Farm them out to the four corners of the country. Not Ballsbridge or Greystones, send them out to Ballina or Belmullet, just as far away from here as we can. Out of sight, and out of mind.

What they didn't bank on, was the people in these towns kicking up a fuss, and on the whole they are right. The whackos and Racists who suddenly turn up to do soundbites in the media, they are not local, and they don't speak for the people in these towns, but they get all of the attention. We shouldn't tar them all with the same brush. What is happening out there is scandalous. If the government have agreed to take people from Europe, and don't be fooled into thinking that they all came on a ferry from England and walked across the border from Northern Ireland. They came in on planes from central Europe. The rest of the EU has been looking at Ireland and saying, "How come you guys are getting away with it?" "We all have to deal with refugees, and you guys are doing nothing. It's time to do your bit or we'll hold back some of that sweet sweet cash you've been draining out of Brussels."

The politicians shook on it, but then did nothing to prepare for the people turning up. This is nothing to do with Irish people turning bad overnight, it is about a government who messed up and didn't consult the people they are supposed to serve. They knew the refugees were coming, but instead of having the resources in place to look after them, they carted them off in the dead of night and tried to hide them all over the place. And when the public called them out on it, they pointed at England and said, "It's all their fault. They only came here because they didn't want to end up in Rwanda. Blame the Brits, blame the Tories. We had nothing to do with it..."

Give over.

The lack of consultation is a major issue. Have they learned nothing from every referendum that failed or anything at all that's ever happened in this country? If you don't treat us like human beings and explain what the feck is going on then trouble will inevitably ensue. If you give us a heads up and an explanation we're generally grand.

The arrogance and elitism of FF/FG are feeding these twats and pushing the ill informed towards them.

I’m guessing we’ve all seen the far right election posters, which aren’t election posters, there is multiple types, the ginger freckled woman, the world in Ireland out, the one about NGOs, they get taken down but replaced just as fast, where is the money coming from for all there posters.

It's quite clear these cnuts are being bankrolled by external forces. It's quite sad this can be allowed to happen. We're sleep walking into a shitshow. It's depressing because we seemed to be immune to this poison but now it's taken hold here too. I have friends who no longer feel safe to wait for the bus in areas of Dublin at night where a few years ago they wouldn't have thought twice.

I have no idea what on earth I'm supposed to be giving over but I've noticed a massive shift to the far right in both urban and rural Ireland and you're overly long rant ain't going to change my mind about leaving.

Where are you planning on going that doesn't have far right problem?

Russia. The same source that funds all the extreme right wing parties in Europe. It's not really a secret anymore, is it?

I'm not an expert on Ireland but whatever the reasons for this may be, this image really got me the other day.

Normally when I see crowds of demonstrators turn out in numbers with Irish flags, it's usually for some reason to do with colonialism or overdue justice which captures my imagination, or something that has been the subject of a particularly moving song. I got a rude shock when I looked closer and realised what it was actually for.

Yeah, it’s grim. It’s all the same shite we’re seeing all over the world. Thanks to the internet all the narratives are converging. Take some legitimate local issues and wrap them up in a load of bollox about the elite and child sex trafficking etc etc

The "Coolock says No" mob are occupying the old paint HQ on the main road - claiming "1000's" of lone males will be housed there. They have turned it into an "encampment" shall we say. It's clearly an attempted land grab from some interested "locals" who have a lot of time on their hands Monday to Friday rather than a protest about immigration or the housing crisis.

Getting all our "vote for me" pamphlets through the door and there seem to be a hell of a lot more independent candidates than I ever remember before. And all of their policies are the same, promises to stop immigration, give two fingers to the EU, unfocused moaning about housing and bleating about free speech. This is the first time I've ever seen so many different independents with the same policies. I guess we should be glad they're not all aligning under one party but I wonder how long before that happens?

I've only gotten one in south dublin, De Courcy i think it was. Most of the independents out here are hippy / communists. Gotten about a dozen Fine Gael leaflets for the one everyone else is sending.

I think they'd be like the INLA or the Teachers Unions; constant infighting and (character) assassination.

But yeah, there was an absolute deluge of glossy paper bullshit inside my front door this morning.

I found it hilarious that the excessively large unrecyclable 4 A4 page booklet was from the Green candidate. Feckin dopes.

I think we have a few years. If any of them get anybody elected then others will flock to them. The IFP seems to have a lot of support on Twitter. It's pretty scary. It's been on the slow build for a good few years, covid helped them reach an angry audience and hurried the inevitable along.

and I suppose it’s Russia who fund the far right in the US? And it is Russia who funds the dangerous and racist Israeli lobby?

Well a lot of the White Power style feckers here are getting online help from the US and Britain. Maybe originated in Russia, but let's be honest, both of those countries have a fairly well-established history of right wing activity

Just wait. They’ll come through your door soon enough. I’m also South Dublin and got about 10 of them, all on top of each other, this morning. I miss the hippy/communist independents. Don’t seem to be any of them left.

Are any of these knuckle draggers actually knocking on doors or are they just dropping leaflets & running?

I'm rural so I've only had 2 councillors knock my door, on both occasions they had another man with them who did all the taking in typical rural fashion.... "we're counting on your vote. Pats a hardworking man, sound, he's done a lot of work for the parish."

I haven't checked out the europe candidates but I think shes the only one in local elections for clondalkin. Maybe a couple of the others went off the deep end a few years back and i just haven't kept track. I guess im making assumptions about a couple based on their name - I kind of assume someone with a name like Kahir Ullah isn't anti immigration, which i know is faulty reasoning unfortunately.

This is one of my local guys who knocked in the other night - https://irishelectionliterature.com...endent-ballymun-finglas-2024-local-elections/

Think he got a sense of who he was talking to straight away and just went for the local infrastructure type talk, but I gave him the "kids/dinner/bedtime" excuse and sent him on his way anyway.
