I loved it, mate. So did Dwayners. Have you you seen any other films by Kurosawa?

Right then Spoons. DVD arrived this mornin, reckon I'll watch it tomorrow afternoon if I can get shut of the other half for an hour or two (or 3)

I've also just ordered (based purely on reading this thread)

Kwaidan
Kagemusha
Ichi The Killer
Schindler's List
Y Tu Mama Tambien (already seen it, loved it)
Little Miss Sunshine (don't scoff, I love this film)

Kagemusha is a great film, but I think you should see his other stuff before that one, that said there aren't any hard or fast rules. You'll love Ichi it's just so much fun, as for Kwaidan I think it's a cinematic masterpiece, I hope you'll love it too.

Anyway cuntos, I won;t be around for a fortnight, can one of you queer film buffs sort the list out. Mehro can you organise it all by making sure the slackers post their lists?? I'd like Hammer to count it up, If he can;t Peter/Ole/Ivor/Mehro/Dwayne can one of you? purely because they've seen most of the films and they'll know the foreign and English titles of the films unlike Mr Burns who could struggle with some of the titles. Oh and make sure The Village or anything by Shamalyanananananan doesn't make the list. I know it's all fun but I think that'd really be taking the piss. Yes, you Freaky, you weirdo, it'd be your fault. That said it's all my fault anyway.

Muchos Gracious

Slackers. I'm off, see you all in a few weeks.

Hopefully it'll have been done by then.

Gimps.

I'm contemplating making a list just so I can put Shawshanks first and up it's rating.

Great film not the best though maybe top 10, but very good considering its place in recent history

It is a very good film, if I actually did a list I would have it 7-8. I can't see how some people on here can actually choose to leave it out entirely. I haven't seen any votes for E.T either, which is a travesty!

I watched E.T. so long ago that I can barely remember it. Is it really that good? Or is simply that it was ahead of its time in terms of special effects and the like?

I love The Village, it was a smart movie. what I like the most about it.. they make you think and feel that the story took a place in the 19th century.. and then you discover that they were living in a modern era :smirk:

E.T was and still is a very good movie. There may not have been any twists and turns but that's not the only thing that makes a film great. E.T is a moving and powerful film and was miles ahead of its time when it was made. I've watched it a couple of times and it's just as good each time.

The perculiar thing about The Village was that a lot saw the shorts of it and went into the movie expecting a horror flick, and were consquently disapointed. It's certainly not, and as you said it's actually quite an intelligently crafted film about the physiological fear and innocence of the community of the unknown and the corruption and deceit of the leaders. I actually think it ends very well as well. It's one of those films you either hate or love, there's no middle ground.

I like your list, a bit suprised about how high up Groundhog day is though. Also, please don't tell me that the Team America at 76 is Team America World Police.

Guilty. Team America is brilliant though. I often dont find films of that genre especially funny but I think that film is spot on - laugh out loud funny all the way through and surprisingly witty, as well as being completely offensive.

I enjoyed it too, although it wouldn't come close to being on my list.

I personally didn't find it that funny although I admit I'm part of a minority in this case. Even still, I don't think it warrants enough to go on any sort of top 100 list. Your opinion though mate

Has anyone seen a movie called I am Sam? I thought it might be worth a shout for a top 100 list

coincidentally I watched that last night. Sean Penn does a pretty excellent job as usual and dakota fanning(?) is very good as the daughter however I hated michelle pfeiffer in it. If they had kept it more about the actual relationship between father and daughter rather than a court room drama the film would have been much better, it also tried to achieve too much, the adoption bit was completely rushed as was the ending. A waste of potential story and cast in my opinion and no place in the top 100 films of all time.

Rain man however is brilliant

Own it but not watched it yet, is it difficult to watch? I don't mind perservering in most cases but right now i need to relax.
