See Joshua has been ordered to defend against Povotkin for the WBA. Pretty conclusive now that Wilder is ducking Joshua and is full of BS in my opinion. He’ll try and spin this as Joshua ducking him but since Joshua’s goal is to be the undisputed heavyweight champ and to do that he needs the belt Wilder is holding, ducking him isn’t an option.

Povotkin could be a pretty dangerous fight.
Yeah, I got the impression even before the Wilder-Ortiz fight he wasn’t looking to fight Joshua anytime soon. It appears he’ll try and fight him one day but wants to use Joshua’s name and try to act avoided to gain a fan base so he makes more money fighting the Breazeales of the world.

From the rejection of the first offer, to the counter offer which they wouldn’t prove funds and location had to be US, to the going over this contract for too long knowing the WBA was putting on pressure on they deliberately held off.

Povetkin is too small to trouble Joshua and will be worn down by half way.

I know he got to Price who's a similar size but i think he'd struggle to shadow box for 12 rounds and stay upright.

wow, some engine on Carroll. First time I've seen him fight

Rocky Fielding stops Tyron Zeuge in Germany for the WBA super middleweight title.

Usyk-Gassiev on Saturday.

WBB, WBA, WBO, IBF, Ring titles on the line in addition to the WBSS trophy. Two unbeaten fighters with great styles in their primes. Winner surely cracks top 5 p4p (I'd argue Usyk could be #3) and will be frontrunner for fighter of the year.

Yeah, there's a bit at stake here. This is the best fight that can happen this year.

This should be brilliant. It's a bit of a shambles that it's on PPV in the UK as they're hardly household names, but it's only a tenner and this is too good a fight to rely on dodgy streams so I'll be buying it. 50/50 fight imo. Gun to my head I'd probably pick Usyk to build up an early lead then weather a late storm from Gassiev to win a decision, but feck knows really.

It's $9.99 here on something called KlowdTV. It's an app without a free trial I'd have spent whatever the going rate was on this fight to be honest.

I like Usyk via close decision. Usyk takes a few rounds to get going usually so expect it to be even after around 4 rounds and then he'll outwork Gassiev with his higher volume and superior boxing skills but Gassiev will likely close the distance coming down the stretch. I'm thinking Usyk 7-5. Gassiev does tend to keep his output low in spells but he is destructive and accurate.

I'm a big admirer of both fighters and their styles and it is as you say 50/50 so I'm beyond hyped for this fight.

HBO fight tomorrow should be a wash. Smith is nothing but cannon fodder for Munguia who has the look of a real fighter not to mention a giant at the weight.

I just hope it's a fair decision if it does go to the judges. A Russian vs a Ukrainian fighting in Moscow in the current political climate seems like a recipe for controversy, but then again it's not like many other countries can claim the moral highground as regards competent judging.

I haven't actually seen Munguia fight yet. I'm interested to see how he looks.

Usyk put on an absolute clinic. Incredible workrate and conditioning. It will be very interesting to see what he does at heavyweight. He’ll outbox everyone in the division, but the opposition will land harder there – if they can.

Judges can’t feck this up surely. Gotta be 9-3 rounds to Usyk at least.

A few eagle-eyed people spotted that Bellew was very quiet on Twitter during the fight and what do you know? Usyk calls Bellew out post-fight at either cruiserweight or heavyweight. That gets his name better known in the UK for Joshua potentially.

Just caught the second half of the Munguia vs Smith fight. Wish I'd watched the full thing. Munguia dominated but it was hugely entertaining and Smith showed a lot of durability and heart. Munguia isn't the most refined and a tricky boxer like Erislandy Lara would be a difficult stylistic test for him, but I've already decided that I love him. Looks to be the latest in a long line of relentless Mexican pressure fighters, and I love watching that style.

He's so open for right hands and really needs to work on his defense but he's a fun fighter for sure. Good power, aggressive style etc; I think he's just above prospect level still. He's very young and no doubt Smih gave him a tough fight and that will serve him well moving forward.

Here's my updated p4p rankings -

1. Vasyl Lomachenko
2. Terence Crawford
3. Gennady Golovkin
4. Naoya Inoue
5. Mikey Garcia
6. Olaksandr Usyk
7. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai
8. Juan Francisco Estrada
9. Errol Spence
10. Leo Santa Cruz

I don't rank Canelo because of the failed test. Expecting to see Usyk climb up into the top 3-4 if he's able to defeat Gassiev (who's just on the cusp of my list). Joshua has some good wins but I think he needs a Wilder win for me to put him in the list and he'd be high if he got that win. Thurman not considered due to inactivity.
Updated my list. Gonna just put Canelo back in because he's one of the best and is passing the tests this time and is scheduled. Also as I said back then a Usyk will would see him rise. No choice but to put him #3 given how masterful he was against Gassiev.

1. Vasyl Lomachenko
2. Terence Crawford
3. Olaksandr Usyk
4. Gennady Golovkin
5. Naoya Inoue
6. Mikey Garcia
7. Canelo Alvarez
8. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai
9. Juan Francisco Estrada
10. Errol Spence

I can't really see much changing until GGG-Canelo. I don't rate Easter enough to rank him if he upsets Garcia this Saturday or bump Garcia higher if he dominates as expected. Joshua is making a case for top 10 maybe an impressive KO over Povetkin and he's in the list. I think that top 3 is solid and hard to see anyone cracking it anytime soon. Estrada may surprise some being in the list but he's a fine fighter with a good resume and I felt he earned a draw with SSR who he will likely fight again soon. Spence is passing the eye test but he's been champ for such a limited time and the Brook win though impressive on paper was against a guy struggling to coming back down two divisions after a brutal loss. Unfortunately it seems like it's going to be hard for him to get big fights.

Good list. Mine would be:

1. Vasyl Lomachenko
2. Terence Crawford
3. Gennady Golovkin
4. Oleksander Usyk
5. Mikey Garcia
6. Naoya Inoue
7. SSR
8. Errol Spence Jr
9. Sergey Kovalev
10. Leo Santa Cruz

It can all change from fight to fight, Inoue would go in the top 1-3 if he wins the WBSS. Very tough competition in that fight and him v Tete in the final would be spectacular. Kov has bounced back well from his 'losses' to Ward and if he beats Alvarez, he deserves his place in the top 10. LSC needs to step up and beat higher level opponents to be considered anywhere near the top 5, same with Spence Jr. On that list, you could say Loma, Crawford, Inoue, Spence Jr are still not yet in their prime and could potentially get better. Usyk, Golovkin, Garcia, SSR, and Kov just all need to make their next fights count especially Golovkin. His resume is the only thing that stops him being a p4p great.

Santa Cruz has Mares 2x and Frampton that's solid but I agree. He's had too many soft fights in between. A fight with Russell JR would massively elevate him but I think I'd pick GRJ in that one.

Kovalev to me is almost unbeaten but there seemed to be something wrong in the second Ward fight and the competition since has been trash but a win against Alvarez and he's deserving. He clearly beat Ward first time and though I felt he was ahead he seemed headed to defeat in fight II but then Ward took advantage of a terrible ref and Kovalev and took the easy win which I really can't give too much credit to.

Inoue-Tete would be the semi-final which is crazy. Burnett-Rodriguez potentially the other semi. Inoue would have benefited more from an extra fight IMO. Tete in just his 3rd fight at the new weight is a hard fight especially considering his last fight was so short it hardly registered.

Agree on GGG. The Canelo fight is huge. He won the first but needs the official win to validate his greatness because the drop-off after Canelo and the rest of his competition is big. I can't talk about him as a great middleweight champion yet despite the numbers, the eye test etc; Hopefully I can in a couple of months.

I'm a bit late but yes, watched Munguia for the first time and absolutely fell in love with him. Huge potential at 21, not in terms of being a great, more the potential he has of being in a LOT of epic fights.

Will be keeping a close eye on his career.
