The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I honestly had brain fart I thought Kessler was still going and Froch had retired. Well I know Froch has.

Anyway what did you make of GGG Jackobs fight?

I didn't see that one, was on a flight unfortunately!

Was a decent fight. Didn't you rewatch it? I'm biggest GGG fan but I thought Jacobs won it. Anyway different people had different score cards. The main event was Rungvisai vs Gonzales anyway. Was probably one of the best fights I've seen in a while.

Nah I didn't but been meaning to check it out

There's no way Froch will come back now - he's got more sense.

And he's had his nose done.:D

Ggg won the fight clearly just not in spectaclaur fashion as per usual. It turned into a tactical boxing match where he showed his class and out pointed the bigger man.

See video -

LOL, has he? What like 'Pob' Bale had his ears done at Spurs. Froch would be silly to come back and ruin things if he doesn't need the money. If he invested it well there should be no need, if he's just living off it and outspending his Sky pay then maybe he would. Kessler seems a bit silly too IMO. You either get people who are broke like Tyson and Holyfield or those like Roy Jones who can't ever give up the love of fighting in front of people etc. None seem to have a happy ending. Do a Calzaghe or Lewis, stay retired, you'll not be the same after you come back after a few years on the sofa watching tv eating what you like, even if you do keep yourself in a bit of odd gym training.

Awful so far, and it looks like he's close to going down now.

Agreed. Never looked like he was in the fight at any moment. Looks like this may be the end of the road for him.

Disappointed for him, he's a likeable boxer with a lot of heart. Excellent performance by Indongo though, he won every round in my opinion. Fantastic athlete.

LOL at the 116:112 scorecard. That ringside judge must be under the influence of something.

Yeah think he's finished now. Thought the same, how can anyone have it that close

Burns is a terrible fighter really. I don't know how he's been a 3 weight champion I don't think he's ever been particularly impressive.

Thought it would be dull. but quite enjoyed that. Love the bit where Klitch goes '' If you win I will congratulate you, when you lose I will help you come back''.

The closer the fight gets the more I think Joshua could be ready to take this step into the big time, especially now McCraken's back in his corner.

Yeah, both fighters came across very, very well. Looking forward to it :)

Indongo to fight one of the Matchroom boys next :boring: Only slightly interesting fight would be Ohara Davies, no interest in Indongo Crolla or an Indongo Burns rematch. Would have much preferred to see Crawford Indongo.

Am i the only one who thinks Wlad wants to retire and they're making this fight so that Wlad can "job" to Joshua and legitimize him as the true HW champion?

Wlad taking one for the sport.

No chance he'd beat Joshua at this stage of his career anyways

He's got a lot of heart, plus a good promoter.

Agreed, the latter has helped him a lot in his career especially.

I doubt it. I'm sure he thinks he can win, he was poor vs. Fury and does look past his best in that fight and his one before he wasn't great. The reality is though Joshua hasn't fought anyone close to his level ever, the best fighter he has ever fought is Whyte and he is way below the level of Wlad. I'd say Wlad has fought plenty of bums in recent years but he's also fought some good level fighters. I think it'll be more of a test for Joshua, it can potentially legitimise him as the best in his division or he gets schooled and has a rebuilding job to do.

I don't think there's "no chance" he's lost 1 fight in 12 years, he may be past his best but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see him prove everyone wrong and win.

Lots of excitement here over the weekend with that win. Revenge for the victory over Paulus Moses a few years ago. Indongo was great, controlled it from start to finish. Second straight win as a massive underdog away from home. Hopefully Julius gets a big unification bout against whoever wins Crawford vs. Diaz.

Glad to hear but he wasn't the underdog to many boxing fans this time.

That's my view on it. Wlad is 41, this is a perfect way out for him.

I think it's a bit harsh on both of them to look at it like that.

Wlad has always seemed to give 100% and be focused in all his fights. Joshua is a young up and coming talent. It's basically writing off any potential achievement of beating Wlad before it even happens. He is past his best but he's still one of the best heavyweights around.

Porter did well to beat Berto last night, trying to get a re-match against Thurman now which IMO is pointless, maybe should fight Khan or winner of Spence v Brook, as Brook's win over him wasn't entirely convincing.

Charlo won convincingly again, the twins look really good but are sort of under-rated. BJS also looking to make a fight with Khurtizide who easily beat Langford.

I see Fury has pulled out of the Parker fight.

What a pair of let downs these Fury boys are.

Has he?

Even so, if true, why are the Fury's a pair of let downs? Fury pulled out of Klitchko after going over their to Germany on the Klitchko brothers terms and spanking him in his own back yard. He had Haye pull out twice through injury on him and Wald himself once as well. Hughie Fury is a separate fighter but even counting two, its only two fights in recent times, they've had much more pull out on them, certainly big fight wise surely.

If it wasn't for Fury then HW boxing wouldn't be what it is right now. Yes Hearn would still be putting on great shows against bums but there would be no title and he'd probably not be even at the stage of going over to Wilder or Klitchko in Germany begging for a title fight at 15% pay yet. Tyson Fury, love him or hate him has almost single handedly set the devision and other fights on fire.

It's true, why do you need it confirmed from a bloke on the caf? :)

And they have been a massive pair of let downs since the Tyson victory over Klitchko, of course, we haven't seen Tyson in the ring since and Hughie hasn't been seen in a year. At a time in which the HW division is kicking off and the "rightful" champion is nowhere to be seen.

A stiff, mechanical boxer who hasn't actually fought anyone of note vs. an experienced ex-champ with a point to prove and an actual jab and fight-plan he is proven to stick to from the first minute to the last is definitely no gimme.

It remains to be seen how Joshua reacts to a boxer with some actual pedigree, even if he isn't what he once was. Klitschko is a good few levels up on what Joshua has faced and will certainly legitmise him if he can go in there and retire him.

There's no reason for Klitschko to take this fight just for a changing of the guard on to Joshua - I believe he has far too much pride for that and it would be an even more undignified way for him to go out than losing his title to someone he deemed a clown before they fought.

Always get me up for a fight the GP videos. Can't wait for Saturday to be honest...regardless of if Wlad is past his best or not. It's the biggest heavyweight fight in years

Anyone see that dross on Saturday that Hearn put on? Seriously every time i watch a full card of his im half asleep by the time the main fight is due on.

I was out but missed it but my pal lost to Fielding for the British title, a lot of people saying he shouldn't have lost too.

Streaming the Vasquez fight now, and caught up on the Brooklyn card earlier
