The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Thought it would be dull. but quite enjoyed that. Love the bit where Klitch goes '' If you win I will congratulate you, when you lose I will help you come back''.

The closer the fight gets the more I think Joshua could be ready to take this step into the big time, especially now McCraken's back in his corner.

What I take from that quote is win or lose wlad is going to end up training Joshua.

Always nice when you don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to watch a proper boxing fight.

Always get me up for a fight the GP videos. Can't wait for Saturday to be honest...regardless of if Wlad is past his best or not. It's the biggest heavyweight fight in years

Just watching a rerun of Klitschko: Behind the Ropes. He's an intelligent, likeable guy. Quite humble too.

Lots of similarities between Joshua and Klitschko in terms of personality.
It's fairly rare where you have two decent guys and respect, rather than trash talking, faux or otherwise. Will be intriguing.

Have tickets for this and can't wait to go!!! fully into the hype now.

I also went to one of Joshua fights at o2 last year and his support is amazing, such raw expression of violence!

Am placing my bet for Joshua to win it in the 4th.

If you've got time it's worth watching the BBC documentary on Joshua from the other night. Was a good watch.
Yeah, a colleague was going on about it. Might try and dig it out on iplayer.

Just saw these dudes at the conference. Both look like giants when next to me (I'm only 5ft.7 ).

What time is the fight going to start on Saturday?

Love both Klitschkos, they're great guys, can't wait for the fight.

Both are an anti-thesis to what some shit pleb like Haye or Chisora are.

Klitschko looks in amazing shape. Most ripped he's ever been in modern times?

Yh he looks very lean. Given their height and reach is almost identical, did he need to pack on almost an extra stone? I doubt his punch power is that dissimilar to Wlad's

Weigh-in was a mess, introducing Joshua while Klitchko was on the scale. Klitchko is in tremendous shape tho.

You mean to win it in 4th or inside the 4 rounds?

I can see Joshua playing with Klit for a few rounds before putting him to sleep.

I'd be wary of Klitchko's counter punching abilities, especially since Joshua has tendencies to get carried away and overextend when sending that straight right. But I'm sure he worked on that with his coaches since Whyte bout.

What time will the main event be on?
Usually between 10-11ish depending on how long the prelims last

Nah it will be 10pm sharp tomorrow due to transport reasons. They have a floater fight which will either be before or after the main event depending on the time. I think Hearn said the first round bell would go at 10.01 or 10.02pm.

I think we'll certainly see a better Klitschko than we saw against Fury. He had become displacement and a little disinterested. But I still think (hope) Joshua will have too much for him in the end, too quick, too strong.

Think it would be a close fight. Some of you are underestimating Wlad, I feel.

I think Fury made him look like that, rather than Wlad becoming disinterested. If he were disinterested at the time, I highly doubt he'd be so up for this fight two years on, regardless of the money involved.

Still, I'm hesistant to pick a winner, and still have no preference. I just want to see a good fight, as I've a lot of respect for how both fighters handle themselves.

He had half a decade of fighting no bodies, and probably thought he would steamroll Fury too. Fury was a better fighter than those he had fought recently, but he wasn't good enough to make Klitschko look as bad as he did on his own. Klitschko looked as though he had absolutely no game plan whatsoever.

Agreed on that. It's nice to see a build up to a fight without the handbags coming out.

I hope Joshua embarrasses him simply for the shady unsportsman-like shite he pulled vs Fury with dodgy sponge ring surface and his stupid USB prediction. What a tool he has become.

Think this will be the first fight I will pay for. Always found the Sky Box Office streams to be ropey, so about time I pay for a fight that I want to watch. Will be bizarre watching it on tv, in HD, with no buffering

He's been doing that throughout his entire career. Making opponents come to him, box on some odd sponge ring surfaces, he was choosing gloves for them to wear etc. But the worst of all is that them ref's kept allowing him to break the rules and lean on the opponents, make them carry his weight and often tossing them as well. Hit, clinch, lean on was his favourite tactics.

Match against Povetkin was probably the most disgusting obvious cheating from any champion I've seen in a while. He should have had a point deducted in every round and DQ'd.

Definitely having a couple of bets on this because nothing would surprise me in this one. Joshua could tear through him early or inside the first 5-6. Klitschko could put on a technical masterclass and win a decision. Joshua could have his stamina exposed and get finished late on or could pull it out of the bag late on. Just can't call this one even if I am ever so slightly leaning towards Joshua winning. So far I've took a punt on:

Joshua in Round 6 12/1
Wlad in Round 11 51/1
Joshua inside 60 seconds 51/1

And a completely random bet of Campbell, Quigg, Kelly and Cordina all to win on points at something like 80/1. Close to no confidence in any of those coming in but always makes things a bit more fun sticking a couple of quid on some ridiculous outside bets.
