The RedCafe Boxing Thread

A little bit before my time honestly, but I did go back and watch a lot of his fights a couple of years back.

Joshua won't be fighting on July 9th now apparently. It's been rearranged...also Tony Bellew is fighting at Goodison Park on 29th May vs. Makubu, hopefully he gets battered in his "home" can't stand the guy.

Whens it been rearranged to?

I still can't understand why he was selected for Creed.

Second that. Flying carpet and everything. Stupid thing is, his boxing style meant none of that was even needed - quite brilliant.

He loved it though. He was grinning like a Cheshire cat on that magic carpet.

My favourite fighter growing up. His entrances were longer than 90% of his fights. Had he stayed hungry and motivated, he'd have been one of the best ever. Such talent, such power.

I never liked Tony Bellew before but after watching Creed, I now like him. He was good in Creed!

He a genuine guy as well.

When he's not talking about himself, I really like him too.

When he's talking about himself, he gets lost in it all and talks nonsense. Tbf, most fighters so to sell themselves.

I just find him really dull to watch, really can't remember last time I watched a fight of his and enjoyed it. I hate all his little catch phrases he uses as well (always mentions being "fat" and a Scouser) just not my cup of tea I suppose!

Good to see that, 3 people in boxing who genuinely seemed happy in each others company and no hard feelings. Rare to see I think.

Watched Chasing Tyson last night. About Evander Holyfield trying to get a fight with Tyson and spending years doing so. Anyone else seen it? Good watch if you've not. It's on Netflix (American proxy needed though) or YouTube if people wanted to watch.

Spence is a monster.

Yeah he's got some real power, he can actually box with it too. Would love to see him go up against Brook, got a feeling Brook might cause him some problems behind his jab. Garcia would be a great fight too, his chin might survive him the early onslaught. Either way this lad will take some beating.

Those left hooks! Beautiful shots. He's got a really lovely fluid style. The way he moves to attack reminds me more of an MMA fighter than a boxer.

He's a nice guy at heart I think. First saw him during the pre fight promos for his first fight with Cleverley, and he came across as a nasty piece of work. All part of the sell, but fecking hell, it looked real! lol

Message to Sky: We already know. He tells us every time he speaks and has spoken since.

Hearn could sell ice to an eskimo! Tickets on sale for that before the card and opponent is announced. It'll probably sell out as well.

It's a Joshua fight. Insert story about StubHub, false ticket sales and fan scam here.

Hell yeah that's gonna be a good fight!

The best odds you can get on GGG tonight are 1/100. Talk about lining up a punch bag. Is MW so dead that Canelo is all he can hope for? He's never gonna be the star Golden Boy is demanding if the only fighters he can get aren't anything either or catchweight shite.

Who the feck is that?

Another fighter with an unbeaten record they can talk up as brilliant cos he's notl ost.

I'll give Hearn and Joshua the benefit of the doubt he was always going to have an easy first defence. Hearn has me worried though with his track record.

I can already see the Sky build up now "Brezeale is a dangerous unbeaten fighter" then he gets knocked out inside 3 rounds and looks shit.

The little I know of him he's a bit of a lumberer with a big punch and no defense. Still, they can bill it as another undefeated matchup, Joshua will walk through him though.

I think you have to give the first defence the benefit of the doubt though. It's a shame as people always want top fights all the time but when you have a cash cow like Joshua he will bring a lot of casual fans to the sport. Hearn and Joshua pretty much admitted before and right after the Martin fight he was going to fight an easy fight anyway so it's no surprise. It'll sell out the O2, do big numbers on Sky and I'd guess he'll fight a couple more fighters like that this year before taking a big fight.

He is an active fighter as well though so these "bums" he fights isn't the end of the world. He's fought 6 times in the last 12 months compared to once for Fury and twice for Wlad. Obviously they're fighting bigger and better names and are more established but I don't think it's that bad if he's active. In theory if he fought 4 times in the next 12 months I think the 4th would be a big enough name to get people excited...my guess would be David Haye by this time next year and probably Fury after that if he won.
