And done. Not sure Brook can take much out of that fight. Awful challenger.

Pointless fight, he still being avoided by the top lads unfortunately, like Calzaghe.

Eubank won't beat any top tier fighter his division IMO. OK Blackwell is tough as they come but getting caught with that right uppercut time and time again was criminal. All he needed to do was tuck his elbows in, which is fundamental boxing. Eubank won't get those gifts against the best fighters in that division. Let's see Grove - Eubank next. Also, who wears a £500 suit to work a corner in a boxing match?

Groves is SMW and already has Martin Murray lined up.

Think Lemeiux and Golovkin blow CEJ apart at this stage. Andy Lee, Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin are too big a risk given the openness that he leaves himself in. As is Canelo. It only takes 1 punch to change everything.

If I were CEJ I'd aim Daniel Geale as a name and then go for the rematch with BJS or entice Cotto in for a payday. Think he'd edge Cotto now and would use his experience vs BJS to make the rematch even more competitive.

A bit concerning that Blackwell was stretchered away and has been taken to hospital. He seemed completely lucid after the stoppage but he took alot of punishment.
For them to cancel the Fury fight entirely means the concerns must be pretty serious. Hope the lads ok.

Shit that sucks, hope he's ok and it's just that swelling on his eye and precaution to take him to hospital.

Aye, the commentator kept pointing out that the Fury fight was delayed and then cancelled as the ringside anaesthetist was treating Blackwell. I know very little about this but I always thought the anaesthetist's role was to deal with possible brain trauma and the like so I really hope this is all just precautionary.

Eubanks and Blackwell was one of the best fights I have seen for a long time, Eubanks was outstanding and Blackwell took some hard punches.
Ref was right is stopping the fight, but I thought he could off stopped it a few rounds earlier.

Hope Blackwell in not seriously hurt and make a full recovery.

Apparently Blackwell's suffered a small bleed on his brain. Thoughts with his family, hope he makes a full recovery.

Anyone actually watching the Ward bout?

Scary to think what situation Blackwell would've been in if the ref hadn't stepped in when he did.

The referee and his corner needs a long hard look at themselves after that..
How he was allowed to carry on was a disgrace

In fairness, he was his own worst enemy. A single minded and relentless pursuit of a late turnaround victory.

The corner in question suggested that was exactly what they prepared for in-between rounds when the camera overheard Gary Lockett remarking along those lines.

The haematoma ballooned from the 8th in the image of my tweet above. In the 10th it was apparent that the fight couldn't continue.

The scorecards on C5 were suggesting it was reasonably close when in truth it was nowhere near. That felt like a promotional push at the expense of the fighters' health to me - both as a TV show and an event.

That all said, the fighters are the biggest risk to themselves until a referee stops it. The referee didn't really have a conclusive time to stop the contest until he referred it to the doctor because Blackwell kept trying to engage after each on-slaught and never dropped.

If we enforce a rule whereby the fight is stopped when the contest is outside of a wide points swing then some of the greatest wins in history would be wiped out. Ali vs Foreman, Corales vs Castillo, Froch vs Taylor & Groves 1 etc.

Pride before a fall will hurt them all.

But then you have Eubank senior telling his son that he can't understand why it isnt stopped and to leave the head alone and focus on the body in case he severely hurts the man. We have a fighter changing strategy to minimise head trauma.
Welfare of the fighter comes first. More fighters have been saved from enforced stoppages than have cost victories.
Just gotta say Ali v Foreman wasn't a wide swing. Foreman was hitting nothing but gloves and arms in that fight.

Should have been stopped at least two rounds prior

Although I can see why the ref didn't, as although Eubank JR was firing off a lot of unanswered shots, and Blackwell wasn't really fighting back in those exchanges, not that many of the punches were landing clean, a lot were hitting the arms or even missing, but those two rounds where Eubank teed off for about 30seconds for me should have been it at the second occasion

The problem was at the end of those exchanges Blackwell would get a couple of shots off and look clear headed. He had also seriously rocked Eubank in the mid rounds at the end of one of those exchanges. It wasn't unfeasible that Blackwell could stop Eubank. It is difficult because that was the biggest fight of Blackwell's career, if he did pull of the win then he would have made a bit of a name for himself and would be looking at career high paydays.

I remember fights like VK vs Shannon Briggs, Guerrero vs Katsidis, Macklin vs Moore and Valero vs De Marco (even the commentators were audibly wincing at some of the shots De Marco took) I didn't feel the fight last night was at that level where I was really feeling massive concern for Blackwell. I think the fact that Blackwell is such a warrior probably played a part in my perception though.
