The RedCafe Boxing Thread

This is what I don't get. You're a world champion...he's a world champion. He MUST have some confidence in himself but instead he opts to not fight him and everyones fine with it? How can any boxing fan be happy that the best aren't fighting the best? Basically you're saying that if people avoided the likes of Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Lewis in their prime you'd be fine with it because they're better or more dangerous than everyone else? I find that baffling personally.

Just being the only one doesnt make it any better on him. They're all as bad as each other (except the ones who have had the bollocks to fight Golovkin.

I don't take exception to it at all either, I've said it's bad everyone is doing it. There's nothing wrong with looking after a family but there's something wrong with the fact he called himself a fighting champion, said he'd fight anyone, called Eubank Jr shit and scared of Jacobs etc.....and then he is clearly moving the goalposts and doesn't want to fight Golovkin. If he came out and said it it would be fair enough. Saunders is a good boxer but beatable, I imagine if he loses his next fight which isn't GGG he'll never get the opportunity at the money being offered to him t the moment. He probably will lose but I doubt he'd die in the ring or something, it can enhance his stock if he loses and has a good performance.

Again it's not BJS problem who ducked Golovkin and I'm not excusing them but they're not the issue at the moment, Saunders is....it's hugely frustrating. I'm a boxing fan and want the best to fight the best, reality is I don't really know (or care) about boxers private lives I just want to see good fights and time and time again these so called "fighters" avoid Golovkin.

For me I'll say it again theyre all waiting for Golovkin to age and they'll jump at the chance. If the best constantly don't fight the best then the sport will slowly lose fans and peoples interest will go. Promoters, boxers etc will only have themselves to blame as well. Who gives a feck about watching Golvokin vs another 30 ranked fighter or BJS defending against the local taxi driver?

We're just going round in circles here.

You're entitled to your opinion. As it is in sure he is confident in himself - or he wouldn't be where he is - but as a professional boxer I very much suspect he respects what Golovkin is all about, that is potentially one of the hardest hitting fighters who has ever stepped into the ring.

I also suspect as a world champ he has lots of offers - many of them lucrative and in fact, potentially more appealing - especially the Eubank Jr rematch which would be much bigger here than the Golovkin fight.

And I'm not saying anything is "fine" - what I'm saying is that I appreciate that this is a business, that these men are putting their health on the line for entertainment and that before a fighter gets in the ring with the very best, as a world champion he deserves a chance to try and make a few quid.

As I said above - I suspect he'd love the Golovkin fight, but not necessarily now as his first defence of his title.

It's easy to criticise. He takes Golovkin the Eubank fans accuse him of ducking him, he takes Golovkin it's the other way around. It's always the same.

Haye reckons he wanted to be on 'free tv' according to his interview with Coogan on IFLtv and so went with Dave. He said he didn't want to be on Sky or BoxNation for his comeback fight and that makes sense, I mean surely there's no way a former unified cruiserweight and HW champ + boxing celeb favourite would get rejected by all of 5, ITV, BBC, Sky and BN... yeah... right. He's fighting at teh o2 as well in London LOL

Finally Fury getting the credit he deserves from one of the major boxing outlets. HBO shot down his win over Wlad ffs.

Anyway, Tyson (Iron Mike) says Fury is the best champ since him.

Tyson hated Wlad. Well, hated how stale the division became due to his dominance. Probably also likes the fact that Fury is named after him.

Kell Brook is the most protected champion in boxing. Fact.

Anyone got any idea when the Haye fight will start on Saturday? The programme starts at 9pm on Dave but I won't be home until after 10.30.

I know it's not exactly the pinnacle of boxing, but we don't often get the chance to watch boxing on the telly.
9.45pm apparently.

Anyone watching Haye? Not sure when it's meant to be on, but damn, I can't be bothered even going downstairs.

Dave is showing the Haye fight?! They'll be showing daily repeats for the next 10 years.

Having Haye, Fury and Joshue bodes well for Britian in the heavyweight division. Brilliant to see a fight in Freeview for once. Don't understand the lack of interest in this fight, not like Mark de Mori is going to be a walkover, he's WBA #10 and he's only lost once.

Haye never retired really. He always intended to use the time off to get juiced up to feck didn't he?

Annihilation.

Haye looked so much thicker in his neck and upper chest. Not to look at straight on but the sheer depth of it all from the elevated camera angle above. Enough of a growth to raise my suspicions as to the authenticity of it. Nearly 4 years out is enough to rehab injuries, "grow" and clear any traces of something.

The power is clearly still there. Nervous energy with the big swings but he knew after the first time he landed and hurt De Mori that he was a level or 3 above.

Not a chance should he get Fury aftef that. Even the Joshua payday would be a farce.

He did look a lot more squat. For a one defeat in 30-odd guy, that Aussie looked a bum.

I dont claim to be a boxing expert by any means, but De Mori seemed appalling. No head movement, barely threw a punch, no concept of having any strategy to get out of trouble...he just stood there like a punching bag and Haye capitalised.

He didn't mention Fury, did he? I saved myself the bother of going to watch it, but I hope Tyson sticks to his guns and tells Haye where to go.

If Haye moves up the ladder and becomes mandatory challenger Tyson said he'll vacate that belt. I'm not having that he would vacate every belt he had in order to not fight Haye.
