The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Nah mate, Fury showed all he needed to. Can only beat what's in front of him and he nullified him absolutely.
That comes from one of Wlad's biggest supporters in this thread fwiw. Thought Wlad would wreck him, he didn't. He deserves whatever accolades come his way.

One of the worst sporting events I've ever seen. Heavyweight boxing is dead... utter shite. Anthony Joshua is the only one worth watching these days.

Get ready for the underlying build up to a Joshua/Fury match up. The money men will surely get this booked in soon whilst both fighters are undefeated and Fury is Champ, PPV sales could be through the roof if the build up catches the publics imagination.

This is the only fight that gets Joshua interest from more casual fans. He needs to step up and start taking risks with his record.

Well done Tyson Fury, you are a dick but well done. Shocked the World!

Vlads style meant the fight had to be fought this way, Fury had to use his speed and his height and make that a problem for Vlad. That was what made it more dull, Fury fights with heart and loves a scrap they'll be a lot more entertaining fight with him champ than Vlad.

Great performance from fury, executed his plan to perfection.

It's still all a bit shit tho, all this really tells us is that wlad is just about done now but at 40yrs old that was on the cards anyway, he'll probably fight and may well win the rematch but there's little point carrying on after that.

There's always been a question over wlad given the state of the HW division during his time, that he considers a points win over a cruiserweight to be one of his best performances says it all.

The sad thing is that Joshua in a couple of years may very well end up the same way, dominating a crap division and never being really tested due to lack of competition

I said when the fight was announced that Fury would have to make a bigger step up from the Chirosa II win, which was also a big step up in performance... Didn't think he'd do it, although I truly wanted him to :)

AND HE DID! I couldn't believe it. Not sure why Wlad was so shy with the right hand, but still, he's been a great champ, and I've nothing but respect for him. Eddie's eyes are already watering with AJ in his stable - 2017, I reckon.

Wilder will be begging for a fight. Now that's a truly shite heavyweight... Can't stand him.

Didn't see that one coming, eating humble pie here. All creds to Fury, thoroughly deserved. Klitschko had no answer to Fury's speed, height advantage and unorthodox style. I thought it was a much better spectacle than many are making out, this is what heavy weight boxing is and always has been.

Well? Silence? LOL.

I was out so wasn't going to log on here to comment after the fight!!

Fair fecks to Fury, he won pretty convincingly. I don't get Wlad's game plan at all really it didn't make any sense. Baffling how he approached the fight and deserved to lose.

There'll be a rematch, if I had to guess I'd back Wlad to win that to be honest still but who knows, Fury proved a lot of people, including me, wrong tonight, fair play to him he deserves the success and credit.

A for boxing going forward I still think the heavyweight division is pretty much at a low point. It WASN'T quality boxing last night, not in comparison to the smaller divisions, it's refreshing to see a new champion but that doesnt mean it's any good.

Two people this fight is good for is Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn, if Fury won the rematch them 2 will be all over him like a rash...potentially another Wembley fight there.

It´s shame Fury will get paid millions to be fecked up by Wlad in two rounds. He´s a straight up bum. Wilder would have killed Hammer in two rounds max.

You really think Fury can fight? You´d be better off betting on England winning the next World Cup. Fury will be out, whenever Wlad wants him to go.

Fury will do his little cute southpaw backhand slap dance on the ropes. Wlad will throw a double jab and bring the right hammer down. Or he´ll just hook off the jab. Fury has no chin. There is no way that fight goes 12 rounds.

Wlad will walk through Tyson Fury - free money if you're a betting man. He's already the lineal champion and frankly you would have to be a fool to dispute that he's the best heavyweight in the game. I very much doubt Wilder will face Wlad, I don't even expect him to face Povetkin - they'll keep the hype train going for as long as possible.

Tbf I thought Wlad was going to walk it. But fair play to Fury, he seemed to get into his head, his teams tactics were spot on. It wasn't fun to watch, but it's what was required to take Wlad down. I'm not a huge fan of Fury as he's more of a brawler than a boxer, his punches don't feel to have much weight / precision behind them. But he tore up Klicthkos tactics with his own.

I'm impressed in the humbleness afterwards of Fury. He knows what a fight needs to get views, but he also knows and respects just exactly what Wlad is.

Very glad that I got on the 12/1 introductory offer for Fury to win at Betfair. What were they thinking?

Congrats Fury! Well deserved.

I'm glad he has been humble and has shown maximum respect in the post-presser and interviews towards the opposition camp. It shows his true character... no one wants to see blatant extravagant gloating.

I'd love to see him face Joshua in the near future, although i know it won't be happening any time soon - Hearn will want to protect his assets "image" for a as long as possible.

One of the reasons Fury deserves so much respect is that (unlike the other top heavyweights) he's obviously a clean fighter. He rolls up to the fights looking like a sack of shit with a LBM to height ratio lower than pretty much all of the other heavyweights and still knocks them around like they're nothing. The guy is just a freak...boxing's version of Fedor Emelianenko

And I was right. Can´t account for the fact that Wlad never threw a double jab, never threw a straight right or a left hook off the jab. Tyson fought exactly as expected. If Wlad told me he doesn´t intend to throw a punch during the fight, I would have picked Fury.

How about giving some credit to Fury for being the reason why Wlad was so gunshy.

Lol at MMA fans sitting at home in their tapout shorts moaning about how much they hate boxing. Go and get in a bar fight, scumbags
Mma fans are scumbags?

I don't think I saw any in this thread who said they hated boxing. But it was perhaps relevant to say the fight last night was not a good one

He's actually quite a down to earth guy if you see more of him and he's very knowledgeable about boxing. Would suggest watching some extended interviews off the iFLTV YouTube channel if you want to get to know him more outside of the boxing bravado.

The same as most of the world!

Oh no doubt. Wlad couldn´t handle the clowning and mindgames at all, was clueless and completely gunshy. The biggest take away from this is that Fury is not as stupid as he talks, but that doesn´t make him a very good fighter. Just a case of right place and right time. Why would he care what I think? He´s just guaranteed himself at least $25M in career-earning regardless of how good he really is. Rematch with Wlad, fight with Haye, fight with Wilder, fight with Joshua, fight with Povetkin, maybe Vitali. Money, money, money. I just hope I get along the ride and make some money, too.

Fury had the reach advantage and was using a lot of unorthodox (technically poor) head and lateral movement, he is also quicker on his feet than WK. Wlad simply couldn't close the range to get shots off.

Wlad is used to fighting smaller guys and easily controlling the range. The boot was on the other foot last night and he couldn't adjust. I thought he was exposed in a way.

Wlad is getting older but I agree that Fury deserves credit for Wlad looking so poor.

Manchester is now home to three world champions, not bad at all.

Yeah, wtf was that about? I'll have you know that I don't have any MMA apparel nor can I fight for shit so getting into a bar fight would be stupid!

Regarding betting on the fight, I threw a score on Fury, get €80 back so not bad. Was talking to my granda, he said he threw €150 on Fury to win, no wonder he was so chirpy on the phone.

I am no fan of Fury but he deserves credit after all he is Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Absolute shit fight with hardly a punch thrown, old Wlad had no idea what was going on.
Fury, Haye Joshua with Wider in the mix should be interesting in the next couple of years.
Problem with boxing is too many different divisions WBA, WBO , WFR, ABC, BDO, ORG etc
One weight one champion please.
I believe GB has now 12 World Champions some of whom I have never heard of never mind seen box.

Just caught up with Degale v Bute. Degale retaining his world title, but I had it a lot closer than the score cards made out in the end. Degale looks quite fluid when he gets his combinations going, but lacks genuine knock out out power. He also goes onto counter attacking mode when seemingly ahead in the fight offering his opponents a a way back into the fight. Still, well done to him, a successful first defence of his world title.

We know him personally. Coming to our place on Tuesday. He's a Gypsy. Very modest and a absolute gentleman.

Agreed. Definitely two sides to his character. He did an interesting and very humble interview with the Telegraph last week in his spartan training caravan that only seemed to have a bible in it.

He's a gentle giant outside the ring. Claims never to have thrown a punch outside of the ring. That's some achievement with the type of community he lives in.

The interview had his father and uncle in it iirc. Said they were bruisers but shielded him from that life. Sounded like he met his wife young too, which helped.
Good luck to him. It's a great story.

I read his father did time for gouging someone's eye out.

Father had a stroke earlier in the year. There were usually 100 people outside the ward waiting to see him every day.

Boils my piss that the British media try and dig him out after last night's achievement:

I'm sure his quotes were taken out of context as well.

He's a Gypsy. They're not generally liked in the UK. The very people digging dirt and calling him out are likely to be Gypsy-phobic (word?).

Morecambe/Lancaster

Fury's Wikipedia says that he was born in Wythenshawe and raised in Manchester. He chooses Manchester as his home town when he is introduced and learnt to box at Jimmy Egans's gym in Wythenshawe. He is a Man Utd fan to boot. His gym is in Bolton which is Greater Manchester.

Crolla is from New Moston and Quigg is from Bury, both raised as fighters on the Mancunian boxing scene.

I wouldn't pretend to understand gyspy culture, just that the 'respect' and 'honour' things are a big deal.
Wasn't the hompohobic thing him just not agreeing with same sex marriage because of his religion? You don't see those sports journos calling out the pope and other religious leaders on it I guess.
Dunno how sports stars get drawn into these rows. How does that question even come up in a boxing interview? Reminds me of the infamous Hoddle comments.
