The averga person doesn´t know either. UFC is already delcining or why you think a freaking woman was their biggest star for the last two years.
UFC outside of the states is getting far bigger it's become a worldwide brand

What's wrong with rousey being the biggest star?

The average person will be more familiar with the biggest names in UFC than boxers outside of the big names boxing at this moment

That might be the case in Ireland because you have a horse in that race but in the UK I completely disagree. I know lots of keen boxing fans but I can't think of one MMA obsessive that I even know.

Most of Mayweather's fights in the past 10 years have been 1-2 million PPVs. Hatton - Mayweather did 2 million in the UK alone. That is more than the highest grossing MMA event ever. These are not 'one off' events.

They're still losing market share to MMA - there's only so much of the pie to go around and boxing is clearly not the only elephant in the room any more like it was in the good old days.

In terms of boxing v mma, the real worry for boxing isn't what's happening now but what will happen in the future. MMA seems to be attracting a younger audience and doing a better job of marketing itself as a more vital and competitive sport. Simply put, MMA is a cooler sport than boxing right now for a lot of reasons.

So while figures might still be good for boxing, there's now a generation of kids growing up who are more interested in the UFC than they are in boxing. That can't be good for boxing's future prospects.

Biggest star shamelessly trying to use a much bigger stars name in Floyd Mayweather to make headlines. I found all that a bit ironic with all the 'boxing is dead' talk in MMA. She is finished IMO anyway.

I do enjoy MMA though, it is just a shame that some MMA fans seem obsessed with discrediting boxing.

I'd consider myself 'the average person' in a boxing/mma sense. Watch both when theres a big fight but don't claim to know a great deal about either.

I know a hell of a lot more boxers than UFC fighters.

UFC wise I know Connor McGregor, Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm. Thats it.

I've never seen a UFC event in my life, but boxing hasn't got a leg to stand on in that regard with this complete cnut as a world champion.

I was actually more into UFC a few years back when they had the likes of Anderson Silva in his prime, GSP and Brock Lesnar.

I'd say to the general public, boxers are more known than UFC fighters. Especially over here.

Anyway fair play to Fury. He's a Utd fan too.

What a day for British racists and homophobes.

This is their "Super Saturday" that the rest of us had in 2012.

I know Fury came out with some homophobic stuff recently, but has he said anything racist?

Totally agree. Crolla was all over the local press sports pages this week. I don't recall ever reading about an MMA fighter in the local news, boxing, on the other hand, is covered all the time.

I followed MMA more in those days too, the Ortiz and Liddell days as well. Drifted away from it a bit now, even though I have it on BT sports

So many fighters come to the biggest fights and lack the game plan to challenge the established champion. Against the consensus of opinion, risking massive ridicule, he came and he conquered. Not by illegal means, rough house tactics, but by being the better fighter, with movement that was unorthodox and imaginative, showing speed and sharpness and clarity of concentration that I just didn't know he possessed. I was waiting for signs that his confidence was just an act that so many boxers put on before their fights, but it never came. Rarely in boxing, there comes a time where everything is turned on his head, and something astonishing happens, and tonight was that time. A remarkable performance and TF is the heavy champion of the world.......Hats off!

I'd never even heard of the Ronda girl before she lost her fight a few weeks ago

Came in here to check the boxing reaction, especially that guy Oggmonster who was sounding off how Fury would lose because a 6ft3 Haye and 6ft2 Povetkin lost to Wlad... and what do we get for reaction? UFC v Boxing world debate like its Youtube.

I see people moan about Fury's antics and general fecknuttery but surely we want/need more 'characters' in sport rather than the Lewis Hamilton/[Insert English Footballer] brand of boring?

This is purely anecdotal and I obviously can't speak for the UK but I know a lot of non/casual boxing fans who tuned in tonight because Fury sold it with his headline-worthy behaviour.

Yep, he's a character.

The British heavyweight Tyson Fury has apologised for making abusive comments about the British and Commonwealth champion David Price – and for a tweet posted on his timeline which said "dont like gays shoul all b shot dead".

I like fury even though he is a bit of a twat. I think tonight is good for boxing

I think the English just love hating their own for some reason. Never got the hate for Lewis Hamilton either or David haye

Love him or hate him, Fury totally deserved that. Klitchko had no idea what to do - Fury made it incredibly awkward from round 1.

People slating Fury, but it would have been an absolute travesty had the judges swayed with Klitchko/draw. Thoroughly entertaining guy, and chuffed for him. If he didn't bring his arrogance into the ring tonight, he wouldn't have won.

I'm glad he won - but how do two 18st beasts go nearly 40 minutes of trying to knock each others head off and other than a couple of scratches be both unscathed?

It was like watching kinnect boxing when camera doesn't have the arms sync right.

My heart goes out to Asif tonight must have been the hardest thing in the world being professional after what has just happened. Fighting Klitschko is nothing compared to that.

I wonder if England Ladies footballer Lucy Bronze may take Fury up on his offer of a fight now. Decent chance for her to claim a heavyweight title.

Wasn't expecting that. Well done Fury. Be interesting to see if DeGale can follow up with a defence against Bute in a couple of hours.

I always thought the reason Lewis Hamilton got hate was because he is a arrogant/cocky 'character' defiantly can't call him boring.

Fury deserved this tonight. People talking about Joshua but I bet you Haye will get involved first now he's back. Sure he won't deserve it but he's talk himself in to a title picture before.

Lewis is seen as arrogant and smug. Some call him boring. David Haye talked the talk but didn't walk the walk. No boxer should ever use a poorly toe as an excuse for losing a fight.

I like and support them both. I think Haye is a great fighter with his speed and power but am disappointed with his inactivity and the number of fights he pulled out of.

The Brits tend to love a humble loser rather than a type A personality winner in sport though. Bruno over Lewis, for example, It is odd.
