The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I'll be impressed with Callum Smith tonight if he can shrug off Rebrasse without any problems. Should be a test for him.

Brian Vera has pulled off a few shocks in his time but may not prove difficult for Fielding to dispatch. If anyone recalls it Vera should have got the decision against Chavez jr in their first fight but this was at least five years ago.

I don't really see any upsets happening with Fielding, Smith or Bellew.

That's one of the worst pieces of officiating in a British ring. Disgraceful. Fielding smashed Vera to bits while he had knee on the floor. The ref was the other side of the ring, nowhere near the action. Vera tries to get up and then gets floored while still dazed.

That's appeal or declassify the result worthy.

Fair play to Fielding for the finish. Took advantage of the situation. Sky ignorant to it all of course too. But still... Jesus.

Just watched Katy Taylor fight on my phone on the way into work. The European champinships are being streamed on youtube. She's through to the final. Bloody close fight though. I love her style, such an aggressive but technical fighter.

She's unreal. That fight could have went either way.

Paul Smith calling it as it is - "shocking refereeing" & "the fault is with the referee". Good bloke.

Great refereeing :wenger:

What time is Smith fighting at (or is it already on), ffs my subscription ran out. I'm fuming atm.

@FC Ronaldo @Kazi, thanks for the links lads, my internet was fecked so couldn't watch the fights in the end, will watch them tomorrow. Thanks anyway.
Women's world cup for me at the moment :D Sorry.
No problem mate. Although, you're torturing yourself there I think (I've seen one or two games, fairly poor).

This could have been stopped quite a few punches earlier too. To defend the referee Vera had already shown himself capable of taking big punches from Fielding, Vera was also throwing wildly and it's his own fault he lost balance, his knee doesn't touch the canvas and if Fielding hadn't swung for him, Vera would have been throwing. Thought both boxers looked flat footed throughout most of the fight. It was easily Fieldings fight though and shouldn't be looked into in my opinion. Is there any official ruling saying the referee should have intervened (I genuinely don't know)?

Just caught the Smith/Rebrasse replay. Very good fight, but that 120-107 card is an insult to the Frenchman.

Watch the fight not the scoreboard. Mayweather eased to victory. Popularity got DLH that SD, essentially none of "flurries" were hitting, and then he couldn't even get them in since he gassed in latter rounds from having to endlessly do it to try and get cheap points(obviously worked) + Floyds insane accuracy on him. Hopkins wasn't overly dissimilar, except he was the bigger natural dude and caught him beautifully in a sweet spot whereas Floyd was the smaller guy.

I also find it funny how he's put all this on Floyd....despite the fact he looked shocking against Forbes, and at the time, Hatton was a better attraction for Floyd to fight, in fact far better, similar money + Hatton was undefeated at the time and brings in a new market for him. Let's also not forget the rematches DLH promised and didn't give himself going in a different route. It's hard to please everyone in the boxing world when you only box twice a year, if that.

I've seen it and it was a close fight, Mayweather certainly grew into it and by the end he was looking great but you'd have been hard pushed to give Mayweather more than 1 of the first 6 rounds.

Just reading up about this guy, he has a degree in Fine Art and his dream is to have his own exhibition! He is already 29 but is near the top of the amateur game at the moment. He has a lack of punching power so all things considered, he might better staying in the amateurs and targeting two Olympic games.

I know the vid is a few years old, and Roach's problem with Parkinson's are probably more severe than they were back then, but this is still hella impressive.

Crazy ending.

Makes it seem like Vargas won how it's written there. Very strange refereeing. For anyone who doesn't know the ref mistakenly ended the fight 10 seconds early after Bradley had just been wobbled there. Bradley was clinching though and won by UD.

Why do I get the feeling that every time something controversial happens with Bradley, Bob Arum is behind it cause he's running out of opponents for Bradley. Just make Bradley-Rios already.

Bradley was on the end of an awful decision in the fight before this one, Diego Chaves should have been DQ'd for headbutting and then Julie Lederman inexplicably calls the fight for Chaves - she's a terrible judge by the way. I have that as robbery of the year; not sure how that fits in with your theories about Arum. I just think he's a boxer that always goes the distance, there's bound to be some controversy if you continually leave the result up to the awful judges/refs in this sport.

Canelo to win a close decision. We better see the winner in with GGG in 2016.

I need a heavy bag (UK). I've checked local gumtree/used listings and can't find anything of the weight & quality I'm after... Suggestions for good retailers? After 80-120lbs with decently priced delivery.

The catchweight king Miguel Cotto.
The balls of that man

Didn't Floyd do it to Canelo also? Pretty sure their fight was at LM/SWW but not at 154lbs...

I still don't know why we have catchweights. The way I see it, Cotto is just a slightly chubby super welter that's holding Golovkin's belts hostage

It's Cotto claiming every future fight of his will be at catchweight. Either that or he's not fighting. It's ridiculous.
GGG is the mandatory challenger tho so can't see him making those demands unless he wants to be stripped but he'll try his hardest.
Canelo likes to fight at catchweight as well, but that's because he finds it hard to drop weight

I hate that excuse. If you find it hard to make weight, you move up a division.

Harsh, but it wouldn't be the worst thing  Both are class on their day, but Canelo is the future.

Cotto's been looking good lately, really good. But it's still hard to judge him cause every win since his loss to Trout has an asterisk. Delvin Rodriguez was an overmatched opponent, Martinez had one knee and Geale was drained. We'll see how good he really is under Roach against Canelo.

Eddie Hearn says he is considering bidding for the Fury vs Klitschko purse if their respective teams do not come to an agreement by Monday. Would be great if he can get it and bring the fight to the UK.

Can't imagine it being a brilliant fight myself, doubt Fury will be embarrassed or anything like that but at the same time can't see anything but a Klitschko win in his "usual" style.

Been catching up on boxing news as was at Glastonbury so not paid any attention to it...Canelo vs Cotto has potential to be exciting but again can only see a Canelo win there.

I'd probably laugh if one of Klitschko or Fury got injured and he missed out on his payday again
