The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I think it's obvious that the referee had pre conceived notions about both fighters. I felt for Groves in his interview. He gave it his all and was cheated by a terrible referee.

Wow on that second gif above not only is he swinging back but also he pushed Froch away just before the ref grabbed him. Gets more bullshit the more I see it. His head was not moving or being hit like those two shots he gave Carl in the first gif image. Ref should be punished like they do in the PL when they balls it up.

You can see from Groves' reaction straight away that he's still 'with it'. He may have gone down but would have got straight up if he did.

I just hope people see through Froch's bullshit now. That's why I wanted Groves, who I wasn't a fan of previously, to win this fight. He goes on like he's some sort of authority on boxing but he's a fecking limited brawler, which showed tonight.

Right, avoided everything. Streams are useless. I've been looking for a torrent to report but none have been uploaded yet which is excellent. If anyone knows of one (I'm not fussed about the undercard), please PM me so we can help to get it taken back down. I shan't be back in here for obvious reasons.

Check Youtube mate. Think there's a foreign one on there, a few fakes/trolls but some others too.

Pocco. Agree with you, still like to watch Froch and find him exciting but Groves showed tonight not only can he back it up but he never really gave him mouth at all. People were saying before the fight that Groves was being like De Gale was against him, yet he wasn't. Groves did the same thing Ringside on Sky and the weigh ins etc that he did v De Gale, keep calm and wind him up without name calling. Froch was constantly on about his legacy, who he's beat and what he would do to him. Groves saying are you going to cry Carl is not disrespect or mouth. George is too smart for him.

Has to be a rematch. Hearne will be thinking £££ big time and even if Froch takes him to Nottingham for protection, owns him all fight and Groves never gets a punch off it will still be a shocker by the ref tonight.

Thought it was 2am but that is just when the card starts, so I'm fecking it off and downloading it tomorrow as it will be ages

There's 4 fights before Pacquiao Rios. The first is finished, currently in the 5th round of the second.

Second over in the 6th round; there's a round by round of each fight here if you want an idea of how advanced the matches are.

Just watched it. Joke. Makes a mockery of the sport. It's really hard to persevere with boxing when it throws things up like this. Remember one of Pacquiao's more recent fights one summer. Turned it off at the final bell, thought "good win, deserved that". Woke up the next morning to see that he'd lost!

Won't be long before MMA takes over boxing anyway.

I went from thinking Groves' stoppage was ridiculous to being in two minds about it. It looks like he drops his left arm completely as he leans forward. I guess only he knows if that's due to the ref grabbing him or not?

He certainly seemed ok a few seconds later when he complained to the ref on the ropes. Perhaps a standing 8 count would have been a better choice?

Pacquiao was absolutely brilliant there, round 5 was the best I've seen him box in a few years. Wonderful stuff.

For what it's worth I don't think the referee's decision was inexplicable; Groves took four unanswered serious blows to the head and I think he may have turned away. I suppose the ref could have allowed Froch to land another couple but at that point the momentum had definitely shifted and if anything the referee denied Froch the chance to win without any controversy.

To be fair that gif doesn't really show the full extent of the two shots he ate immediately before the stoppage, they were blasts.
That gif is an awful judge of the punches, Froch hit him with two or three excellent shots but you don't see that well in the gif

Come on now, lets not get suckered into pretending this was anything but a monumental fix.

I never said it wasn't a ridiculous stoppage, just in that gif it looks Froch has hardly done anything when in reality Groves got blasted with two big shots.

Personally I think that's highly doubtful, people need to ask themselves if Groves could have turned that situation around. How many more blows did you want him to take when he wasn't defending himself, was flailing wildly and turning away from Froch? In the light of Hugo Leal and Abdusalamov I think referees are obviously more nervous than unusual.

just watched the match Pacquaio was punching that guy at will. This was never the big test it was made out to be. It was 1 sided. I hope the Mayweather fight happens. Egos should be set aside. Boxing needs this match.

I think it would have been a big test if Manny had truly declined, Rios wasn't going to be put away early and a big punch can change a fight. Watching the fight as a Paquiao fan I was pretty tense and was always half expecting/was wary of him getting dropped by a big punch. Now that's its over that seems stupid and I'm not sure what I was worried about, but the danger was always there IMO.

He looked awesome though and Rios couldn't get close. Made him look like a limited slugger, two or three classes above all night.

I think Jim Watt has shaped alot of people minds of the fight. His commentary was ridiculous.

The fight was a lot closer than it is being portrayed. I had Groves up by 2 maybe 3 going into the 9th and Froch was being typically Froch, coming on strong in the later rounds. The fight was stopped early and both fighters were robbed. Groves could very well have weathered the storm and outboxed his way to a excellent win.
Froch was robbed from having dug deep to grab a impressive victory from the jaws of defeat.

Even if Froch landed 3-4 good punches, Watt would always say something like "Groves landed an even bigger right on the way out". To have Groves up by 6, I think it was, showed his love for Groves.

Completely agree, I had to mute the thing after the first three rounds.

I had it closer, thought Groves was ahead but he was on the verge of been banged out in the 9th. The stoppage was the best thing that could of happened to Groves because it is allowing people to think he was robbed when he likely wouldn't of survived the round never mind lasted another 3 after it.

Sick of seeing this opinion on the net to be honest. Its like people can sense the future and know full well the next few seconds or next 3 rounds would have gone Froch way just because "he got better against Taylor" or whoever but we don't know who would have done best the last 3 rounds, its a view. What we do know is that Groves was leading the fight and stuck him on his arse in the FIRST ROUND as well. He outclassed a world champion 'superstar' with a legacy to make on his first big time fight.

Anything else is just opinion. End of the day you have to ask yourself who is the harder boxer, Froch for throwing a few shots on the "glass jaw I will knock out" who he once dropped to a knee in sparring and made a big media deal of or George Groves who slapped down mr Iron Jaw of all time Carl Froch with two beautiful shots, a left and a right AFTER he was hit with a punch in the first round.

Everyone's allowed their take on it, but on what happened I know what I saw. Groves owned the night and if Froch who says he always defends the belt never gives up, someone who kept Kessler to his word of a rematch doesn't give A) give Groves a rematch and B) runs of to Nottingham for it then he's a pussy. The crowd on the night and the reaction on the net says it all.

We reacted crazy about Nani v Madrid but that decision from the ref was beyond mental. He wanted Ward or even a Kessler rematch but now we have an unanswered story here, surely he can't ignore it. Eddie Hearn talks crap too.
